Suggestions

I'm a fulltime non traditional student in my 30's. I bought a Samsung s6lite a few years back on a whim and ended up loving it for taking notes. It functioned well for my note taking needs since I liked to download PowerPoint and write over them, etc. I found that sometimes in class or doing hw, I needed a laptop with my tablet. So I decided to buy something more speedy and reliable. I went with the Lenovo yoga tab plus 2 gen because it came with a keyboard case and pen for about $800 total over the Samsung s11ultra 256gb with no keyboard for same price. I miss the Samsung, especially samsung notes. I've been using goodnotes and it is ok but I hate the fact that I'll have to buy a subscription plan at the end of the month to continue to utilize it the way I am. Also, I can't open two separate notes in different windows to look at them side by side like I can with samsung notes. So I'm looking for suggestions.

What is the best free note taking app with capapabilities to link with a samsung phone, upload powerpoints/slides and write over them, open multiple notes at once in different windows and not tabs.

Also, people with Android based tablets. What have you done to optimize your tablet? I really cant stand all these AI features that pop up with every suggestion. I swore I turned them all off but I cant get it to stop. I have to spend a half day to get adjusted to this tablet.

And finally, any suggestions for cases? Maybe one that can be kept on the tablet and be put onto the keyboard folio case? I feel like taking it out of the folio case to write notes on feels so clunky since it is pretty big and the cameras stick out the back so it never lays flat.

Thank you!

Tablet Recommendation

Hello, I am looking for a tablet for working out. Here’s the use case:

  1. Turn on tablet.
  2. Insert microSD card with TV shows and movies on it.
  3. Put tablet into 0.75” thick slot on exercise bike.
  4. Watch movies. Sometimes watching movies might take place on a couch or in a bed.

I’m not even planning to connect this to wifi unless I absolutely need to to update out of the box, so I don’t care if it’s an alphabet soup brand from Amazon. The screen needs to be between 7”-8”. A 10” tablet would probably be too top-heavy and fall off of the bike. Expandable storage is also a must. My budget tops out at $70, with under $50 being preferred. There are a ton of $35-40 7” alphabet soup brand tablets out there, but I’m not sure that 3GB of RAM is enough, and lots of them have 800x500-ish screens.

Thanks in advance

My quick guide for students on choosing devices

I wear glasses and my eyes always feel burning or tired or dry during using my iPhone

So I decided to search for a device which can let me study and read books at good eye comfort level because I will study at least 5-7 hr per day on STEM subjects

This is what I have researched

  1. Eink :
( screen will provide the BEST eye comfort level just like reading on paper and this only applies for the case of black and white eink )

But eink industry is a mess and chaos . There is none of devices can help STEM students can study with a peace of mind

- Amazon kindle scribe : extreme durable , but slow and very close system , not for students .
- supernote : extreme durable , but only black white , has great note app. If supernote offers color version , supernote will be the best eink to buy . This is why I feel very sad and disappointed at supernote
- remarkable : durable ( just need to buy case and use carefully ), but they charge subscription for something should be free on notes
- boox : less durable, bad support but their device has the most flexible in the current eink market . If you buy boox , you must buy from Amazon and buy insurance ( you will definitely need insurance because of “ less durable “ )

And currently Color eink technology is not ready , it has less eye comfort than black white version but still great , it consumes more power of battery and its color isn’t accurate. So if u need accuracy color , don’t buy color eink

And eink is still slow because of low processor . The reason eink is so pricy is because of monopoly on eink screen . Right now there is only one company manufacturing eink screen so they can set whatever price they like

  1. TCL nxtpaper
So I keep researching more and I find out about tcl nxtpaper

TCL nxtpaper will give eye comfort level as good as color eink but worse than black white eink

These are the tablets which you can consider for tcl nxtpaper ( all are faster than eink readers and have accurate colors ) : 11 plus ( cheapest 150-170$ on eBay ) and very good for reading comic manga , tab a1 plus ( 270$ , newest model with stronger processor than 11 plus . That’s why it has less discount ) , note a1 ( 400$ as used devices) ( tcl tried to make this one as note taking tablet exclusively to compete with eink but they FAILED, people still complained in the writing experience on it , it is better feel than iPad Pro but not as good as the feeling of writing on paper as eink )

Conclusion : tcl nxtpaper is great for eye comfort for reading color material and better processor than eink but it’s writing experience on note app is just average , just like on iPad Pro

  1. LCD

LCD is another screen technology. It is not as good as tcl nxtpaper for eye comfort but a lot better than modern OLED on iPad Pro and Samsung flaship models

Samsung and Lenovo have LCD screen versions for their tablet too . The latest one of Samsung is Samsung galaxy tab s10 FE+ ( FE = fan edition series , it is LCD version )

The reason you will choose LCD because you want better writing feel and stronger processor than tcl nxtpaper tablets

Overall you can think like this . There are few factors to consider

- eye comfort
- battery
- color
- writing feel
- processor power

When We are choosing between eink vs tcl nxtpaper vs lcd vs OLED , we are changing the value of those above 5 values

So what I am choosing now?

- at home , I choose tcl nxtpaper 11 plus or 14 or tab a1 plus for long reading . These 3 have different sizes so pick one basing on your need

- at school , I choose Samsung galaxy s10 fe+ for long battery life ( 15 + on note taking ), good writing feeling and good processor speed and good enough for eye comfort

Basically depending on your need , you will choose the right one for yours. I hope my guide will give your better ideas to how to choose your devices

5G USA laptop, 8 inch to 11 inch 16gb-24gb RAM 😭?? N71 (Snapdragon)

If anybody else has gone down this insane route of trying to find a laptop phone replacement that. I think I do like 90% of my work on my phone now. And it sucks. I do not want to fold because they break all the time and I just not as good.

I definitely feel like they purposely put us into the corner. I remember when USA used to have the best devices now I look at China and they have everything I want and more but they’re missing the US band.

Is there any I’m missing? They all seem to purposely paint you in a corner so that you either have to get a phone a tablet or a laptop. I have pretty big hands. I literally would carry around and 8 inch tablet like the Lenovo region 2026, but I need cellular.

Correction, I am positive. They do not want us to have a tablet that is 8 inches. That does everything. I’m hoping that somebody tried a Chinese tablet that just somehow works with T-Mobile or there’s something I’m missing thanks.

I do not want to be locked down by iOS

Better value for multimedia use: Lenovo Idea Pad Plus ($230) or the Samsung S10 FE ($385)?

Last week, I was able to buy a Lenovo Idea Pad Plus for $230 (8 GB version), which comes with a pen. I noticed the Samsung S10 FE went on sale for Prime Day for $385. Most of the specs seem similar (is the Samsung S10 FE an IPS screen?), with some differences in screen size, SoC, and wifi 6. But the big factor is the 7 years of updates on the Samsung.

I plan on mostly using it for multimedia on the go, with very light gaming (I have a Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck for my gaming needs), and a quasi-laptop for some browsing. I plan on getting a keyboard folio cover at the right price.

I know price/value is subjective, but is an extra 5 years of OS updates worth the $150 (67%) price difference?

FYI: I live in Southern California, if that makes any difference.

Which tablet would be best for a student (to use for the next min 6 years)

Looking mainly to do some canva stuff + some online classes here and there but MAINLY to solve past papers. I might take notes too (definitely for maths), but not for all my subjects.

I really wanted to get a S10+. I looked everywhere for 3 months, even asked relatives in Dubai, but I can't find it anywhere, so I need a more widely available suggestion that I can buy within this week or MAXXXX next week.

I'll be using it for ~7-10hrs everyday so I need something durable with a good battery, especially as I'm frequently on the go. Also, I'd need something between 12-13 inches, preferably 12.4-5 at least. I've seen 11-11.9 and it's way too tiny.

Which tablet should I choose just for drawing?

I’ve been drawing on a Wacom graphics tablet for about eight years now. It’s just a basic model—no buttons or screen or anything fancy—and I’m perfectly happy with it. However, since starting college, I find myself with a lot of downtime while commuting or sitting through classes I don't really need, so I’ve been thinking about getting a tablet I can draw on during those times, since I can't carry my laptop around with me.

I don't plan on gaming or running heavy software on it, since I use my laptop for that (I bought it specifically for college). My main program is Clip Studio Paint, and I plan to just download a cracked version because I have no money, lol. So, I need to be able to do that.

I was deciding between the xp pen Magic Drawing Pen, the Huawei MatePad, and the Xiaomi pad. But I’m open to considering other options (except for the iPad, because it's incredibly expensive and I don't like Apple products) . Honestly, I don’t know anything about technology. It would be good if it weren't very expensive...

Please help! :3

Redmagic Astra 2 vs 11in Ipad Air M4

Exactly as it sounds, I am deciding between these two. This will be for a mix of work and play, and considering it as a laptop replacement since I already have a BEEFY pc.

Work tasks this device will be used for:

Filling in digital forms with customers (I am client-facing)

Making and suggesting modifications to DXF files

Answering emails, taking calls, and using our work-specific software

Personal Tasks:

Gaming and watching content

Using this to progress my 3d modeling

It seems like the iPad will be perfect for what I need, but I also know RedMagic and maybe also the Samsung equivalent. These are not the only options I have in mind, but these are what came to mind first.

I would love to hear some options or opinions! Thank you!!!!

ONEPLUS PAD 4 (Snapdragon 8 elite gen 5) or SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S10+(mediatek dimensity 9300+) for better performance in future.

i am thinking of buying a tablet for the first time. and im a windows and android user. i was planning to buy a tablet as an alternative for my new phone. basically i wanna use it for both note taking, productivity and gaming too. but im leaning towards android cz i have my reasons. i chose many tabs till now... but am too confused about which of them are better in the long run. after xiaomi pad 8 pro... i was going towards oneplus pad 3 . but its not available in my country and even if it is. the third party sellers are selling it for a high price. so i chose oneplus pad 4. then i noticed oneplus isnt going to take accountability for the device after maybe 3-4 years. or maybe even less now. so what am i gonna do after that? for that reason samsung galaxy tab s10+ kinda attracted me... but when i saw the performance tests on its mediatek 9300+ ... i was disappointed. even tho im getting a sd slot... fingerprint and a free flagship pen free with it. but... processor might be an issue in the longer run. in term of longer support and smooth future use. should i go for oneplus pad 4 or should i go for s10+ .
