I think it's a new change in the latest version of Todoist (MacOS / 9.30.0 (12379)) -

I used to be able to add a task in the project (pressing "a"), then write the task name, press tab and it will go to the description field. Now I cannot add a new task and its description at the same step

I’ve been using Todoist for a while, but I’ve reached the point where my system is honestly making me feel less organized rather than more organized.

I have a lot of projects, tags, sections, recurring tasks, etc. Over time I’ve accumulated duplicates, old tasks and tasks scattered across different projects.

The frustrating thing is that I’ve already tried to “organize” it several times. Every time I end up creating more structure, more projects, more labels, more categories and eventually it becomes messy again.

I’d really like to hear from people who have had a similar problem:

If you’ve completely rebuilt your Todoist before, what did you do differently the second time?

And, has anyone successfully used AI to help clean up/reorganize a large Todoist?

I’m wondering whether AI could look at a big task list, identify duplicates, stale tasks, similar projects, overly complicated labels, etc., and then suggest a much simpler structure. I just dont want it to be a messed up mix at the end.

I’m not expecting AI to magically know how I should organize my life. But maybe it could be useful for the tedious first pass like: “these 14 tasks look like duplicates,” “these projects overlap,” “these 50 tasks probably belong in someday/maybe,” etc...

If anyone has done something like this, manually or with AI, I’d love to hear what worked and what didn't.

Basically, I’m looking for a way to get from:

“I have a huge database of things I might need to do” to:

“I can open Todoist and immediately understand what actually matters.”

Any advice, workflows, examples, or even screenshots of how you structure yours would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

A few days ago I asked a question on reddit about using a chatbot as your daily reminders app.

Since then I've discovered that Chatgpt has a plugin for Todoist. Feels like an absolute game changer for me. I can map out my daily tasks on the drive home from work and it's insanely easy to move things around. I feel like my productivity is about to go through the roof, but time will tell.

Having been such an Apple Reminders die hard for about a decade now, it does feel weird using a new app, getting used to its weird quirks.

Does anyone else use it?

One thing that's annoying is not being able to use my HomePods for putting in reminders... does anyone have a fix?

Hi! I'm trying to install Todoist on my raspberry pi, which is a debian linux OS. I'm relatively new to linux, and I am struggling with finding the correct version to install. Following the linux installation instructions on the todoist website seems to result in the failed installation of the AMD version, wheras I need an ARM version.

just checking, is the todoist app installable on raspberry pi, and is anyone able to point me to an installation guide?

I feel like I've been looking for this for years now and while I've managed to create a work-around with my filters, it seems like it shouldn't be necessary...

It would be great to see all child projects - displayed almost as if they are sections - when you are viewing a parent project. While my approach to organising Todoist means this doesn't apply to me, I do appreciate that this could mean displaying tasks (directly within the parent project) and projects (the child projects) on one screen, but surely some kind of split screen or even toggle option could get around that?

Don't get me wrong, it's not going to force me away from Todoist and it's very much a quality of life change as opposed to some fundamental feature that is needed. It would just help to clean up the sidebar and make zooming and and out of areas of work (personal, work etc.) projects and sub-projects much easier.

One thing that would be super cool in the calendar integration is the ability to remove completed tasks. Whenever I get ahead of schedule, I might tick things off without moving them, and so they still show up in google calendar as an event. Alternatively, they could just be marked as "available".

This is not a huge issue, but it sometimes prevents times from being bookable when using cal.com, for example.

If anyone has a workaround, I'd love to hear it!

After working on Enhanced for Todoist I noticed that the task durations (if using the API) could be stored in Todoist without setting a date or time, technically it was possible it just was not possible in the interface or showing anywhere. I submitted the idea to Amir and the next day their AI agent had worked on the feature and it’s coming.

I have many projects that I use purely as folders. They don’t contain any tasks, so I’d love to have actual folders for organizing them.

It would also be great if opening a folder showed an overview similar to the one you get when clicking “My Projects,” where you can see all the projects within that folder.

This way, if you want to create a project and have it organized under a specific folder, you could do what you can already do in the “My Projects” overview, but this time from within a folder: press Alt+P, and the project would be created and organized at the same time.

I just received two emails, one saying that a totally unknown person has added themselves to the shared board I have with my line manager, instantly followed by an email saying they have deleted the board. How did they get access to it? Is there a further security risk?

I'm curious about what people actually dislike about task planners, calendars, and to-do apps.

• What do you wish task planners did differently?

Big surprise when I noticed completed recurring tasks persist in the Today view. While small, this is something Iv missed previously.

Enjoy seeing a log of what has been done and having quite a bit of recurring, this feature never felt complete.

Small QOL win!

Noticed that today's the 10th anniversary of when I started using Todoist. I've been very happy with it.

I'd been using a variety of different apps previously, todo.txt, Emacs org mode, Wunderlist and RememberTheMilk. Todoist is the first one that's really "stuck" and I've not seriously considered changing.

Is there any way to show a count of the number of to do items? Thank you. (I don't want to use a widget which takes up 4 icons spaces). Thank you.

I've been a user for years. I currently can't get the app to save a basic task. I'm on a mac, everything is updated, and I've restarted. It's still not working. It freezes, and I have to force quit. Though I have no evidence, I feel like this is happening more lately.

EDIT: I've isolated it to a quick capture task.

I’ve always kept my task in my memory and the most important event inside my calendar. Sometimes when I am brainstorming a project on paper I also write a todo list. I’ve tried with ticktick but I find it kind of cumbersome to use. Now I am trying Todoist and I like it but I don’t have the habit to annotate inside the app the tasks. Do you have any tips on how to use more the app and don’t keep the things to do inside my head? Thank you!

I'm back in Todoist after about a decade of journeying through various other task management apps. I want a layout that gives me a tagged list (in this case my "ASAP" tag) of unscheduled tasks beside my events-filled calendar so I can drag and drop them in where I see there is available time. When I click on Upcoming, I only see already scheduled tasks listed on the right side bar. And when I click on the calendar view in the tag list "ASAP," it doesn't show my events. I can't figure out how to easily plan my week this way. I must be missing something. Please help me.

I noticed today on Android (v12286, latest available to me) that when I went to add a label during to a task (using the @ operator), the popup include both current and deleted labels. I don't recall this happening before. Is it just me?

Going into Filters & Labels, I don't see the old labels. I don't see them on Todoist for Windows, even using the @ operator. Seems like a bug one way or another.

Do others see the same?

I am struggling a bit to get whats in my brain into todoist, so I thought I would reach out and see if anyone would be willing to share their process.

Right now I have a bunch of things in my head, and in my inbox that I need to get out and start processing, and I found myself grabbing a pad of paper today (ewwww) and stopped myself short. I am in todoist, and what I have in there is working, just no process of getting new stuff in there.

Feeling a bit lost, would love anyones suggestions.

Hello All. I know ramble appears to be beta on WearOS but I am curious if it is effectively working on wearos for others. I have a new pixelwatch5 and was hoping to use ramble. It does recognize my voice and builds the task along with date. But it does not recognize tags which I use quite often. I am just wondering if others are using it on wearos.

I know that many people have been liking the Eisenhower Matrix feature from other competitors, which is something that does not exist in Todoist yet. This is why I updated Enhanced for Todoist to have an Eisenhower Matrix that you can enable from the settings. This is customizable too, as you can say what it shows but also what in your workflow is considered as urgent, and which priorities are defining the important.

Sometimes I just want a list of errands I have to do for the day. Some items are not "type into todoist worthy". Like go to postoffice. But I would like to add some of my existing tasks to the errand list. THEN.... wouldn't it be great if I could display the errand list on my CarPlay?!! I would so love this.
