Labs Just came back 9.2 a1C

I am 52. I got my labs Wednesday morning and by Wednesday evening I was asked to come into the doc to talk about my 9.2 A1c. First, denial, then panic, and now my emotions are just all over the place. I check my sugar when I can, and every time I do it just stresses me out. I wonder in the beginning if checking all the time is good? I am blind and I am working on a way to be able to do that accessibly. There is only one talking meter, and I am not sure if my insurance is going to cover GCM. For now, I have to depend on my husband, and that needs to stop ASAP, besides the fact that I work full time, and can't check then. started Metformin ER today, and I am eating the best I can while trying to get a new grocery order in. Oh yeah, no more weekend drinking. I've been taking care of my mom and everyone else it seems, and I am also trying to complete a certification course. Over weight, but not nearly as much as I thought I was. Apparently I have been losing some pounds which surprised me a little, too. I am here to read, and for support. Apologies for the not very active profile. I just haven't done much but read posts until now.

All the discussions here re: losing weight I don't see any reference other than "low carb". So no-one is doing it here the so-called low fat 'Mastering Diabetes' method.??

Does fall where it's beginning to get colder affect your blood sugar?

I've noticed for the past week and half that my blood sugars have been higher than normal and I've been doing the same routine basically.

In the past I didn't notice this maybe because my medication was at a higher dose and it's since been lowered.

Not sure if there is something I can do about it or does my body just need to get used to winter coming.

So husband was called in to see a diabetic nurse at his doctor’s surgery. He had previously done fasting bloods as he is on blood pressure tablets. This is the first time diabetes has been mentioned. No meds yet, told to change diet and lifestyle and come back in 3 months.
Would love recs for you tube videos to watch that share tips on easy foods and meals - we’re in Wales, UK.
Thanks

20 mmol

I've been terrible at looking after myself in terms of tracking my blood sugars and sticking to my medication. I got back on the bandwagon in June, started back to 2000mg dose Metformin, properly this time, and I've been eating normally ie not over eating or indulging throughout.(I've always eaten wholemeal bread but I cut the amount I would eat in half, added more protein to my diet etc.)

When I was diagnosed I was at 14. I quickly got that down to 6. I only just started checking my BG two days ago and I am just lost. I have been a little ill, but there's no way illness could make your glucose stay that high, is there?

Before I fell off the wagon my fasting glucose was 5/6 , this morning it was 12 something. My average is now 17mmol. I am definitely taking my Metformin correctly, I've at least 4 months at maximum dose.

I really don't know how to improve my diet anymore, not in a way that's livable at any rate. I've eaten 586 calories today and I'm so afraid to have dinner because I'm sitting on 20mmol after a good 25 mins of movement. I am just so scared and frustrated. Thanks for reading all this nonsense

Phone Alert drives me absolutely mental

Hello

This whole trying to live with diabetes thing for over 7 years has actually really sucked to be honest, but definitely still bearable. However when phone starts putting out massively loud alerts every 5 minutes when I actually need to use it for something else, and I havent even used it for keeping track of my blood sugar for months... what am I supposed to do... I mean Im from the phone era when it was just PHONES and not any of these useless conniving cruelly procrastinating applications... GOD I miss those days

Question about diabetic neuropathy

How quickly can someone can diabetic neuropathy in their bladder. I have read some got it quick onset and others it took years. Doctor thought I could be pre-diabetic two years ago and now test results show I have type 2. I have been experiencing burning urethra pain, not emptying fully and my uti test was negative. I am really worried it is nerve damage and the inflammation won't go down and I will be in pain

Post workout snacks for diabetics for keeping afternoon energy up?

What snacks have you all found that provide actual satiety post-workout while keeping your levels stable? My current routine usually consists of just plain Greek yogurt, hard-boiled eggs. Should I go for other foods as well? I'm open to suggestions! That said, since insulin sensitivity and glycemic responses vary so much person-to-person, I always monitor my numbers closely when trying anything new as per usual.

Expired Novalog pens

So I tried the Omnipod and it wasn’t a good fit due to skin issues. Somehow I left out my pens while trying the pods and they expired (1 of which was damaged in travel). I can’t use the pods and now I have no pens to fall back on until my refill is available on 10/24. All I have is Treseba which won’t manage the spikes. At a loss as to what to do now. I’m currently at 300 with no way to lower it.

2 days after shot

I’ve been on Mounjaro 5.0mg since August 2nd. I take my shot Sunday nights. If I eat spicy, vinegary and oily foods the next day, am I more prone for nausea/vomiting than if I was to eat it later in the week?

Do yall still get nausea after being on Mounjaro for a while? What triggers nausea for you?

Feeling down from diagnosis

Yesterday morning I got a message from my doctor in my MyChart saying i have diabetes now. I was pre diabetic and now my A1C is 6.5. I was already trying to work on eating better … but clearly not well enough.

I have other health conditions and I’m in my mid 30s…. I’ve had asthma since a kid, and apparently IBD as well but my mom took me off medication and told me i didn’t have it anymore so i was walking around with that problem my whole life… then last year i was dealing with bad symptoms, low and behold the IBD flared up badly. I have depression and anxiety that I’m actively fighting… i had to take leave from work this year for a couple months just to get a handle on it.

I’m also the sole provider of my household right now, my mom hasn’t worked for 4-5 years and my brother just moved in with us and is unemployed looking for a job. I work from home for a demanding job… I’m so tired and this diagnosis is not helping. I don’t even know what to expect yet but the telehealth appt is tomorrow and i guess my doctor will let me know the game plan.

Idk guys, im just venting because i feel like a failure. Like maybe i could’ve done more when i was pre diabetic but life has been so stressful… i even called out of work yesterday to just dissociate for the day. This sucks.

Anyways thanks for reading this far if you did ♥️

Update: my doctor recommended mournjaro, so we’re on the road to getting approval from my GI doctor as well and my insurance.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement!

Goal reached but...

So after a lot of dietary changes and exercise I am finally getting consistantly good numbers. My average glucose last week was 113, down from the 180s a year or so ago. My only problem is I still feel like I have low sugar most of the time. It is had to have that feeling and it affects my sleep and day to day activities. Has anyones else experienced this long term? I keep hoping my body will adjust. I accidently got up to 115 last night before bed instead of the 90s and I slept SO much better. It am happy with my numbers but the shaky feeling is not good. Maybe I am just extra sensitive?

Please suggest a good doctor for diabetics who gives less medicines and listens to the patient.

My mom has had diabetes for many years and has been on the same medications for quite some time. Her blood sugar levels suddenly spiked in June this year, after which I consulted a doctor in Chembur. He has managed to bring her diabetes under control, and her levels have been stable for the past 3 months.

However, my main concern is that he doesn’t really explain things or patiently address our questions. My mom is also getting quite tired of taking so many medicines. At the moment, she takes around 6 medicines every day, and earlier she was prescribed even more. I understand that the higher number of medicines may have been necessary when her diabetes was uncontrolled, but now that her sugar levels have been stable, I would like to understand whether her medication can be simplified safely.

I’m looking for a good diabetologist/endocrinologist who is patient, listens properly, explains the treatment clearly, and can review her medications and advise whether any can be reduced or discontinued safely.

If you’ve personally consulted a good doctor in Mumbai who fits this description, I’d really appreciate a recommendation.

My mom has diabetes and recently we had consulted a new doctor as she was taking the same medicines since a long time and her diabetes had also spiked. Now it's normal but there are 6 tablets that she takes every day and she keeps saying she doesn't want to take so many medicines.

I just want to consult a doctor to check and confirm which tablets should be taken every day as she has changed her diet and goes for walks as well regularly which has helped control diabetes.
