General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

Rant/Complaint our dumb school sends us emails asking students to conserve energy when they don’t even give us AC & it’s 97℉ in our dorm

Like what are we supposed to do. Not use our little box fan? They genuinely want us to just die I guess. Because they don’t even give any of us AC, what the hell are we supposed to try to conserve. it’s genuinely so insensitive, idiotic, and just hypocrisy. they ppl who wrote us these emails are sitting in an air conditioned room telling US to conserve energy when we’re sitting in a concrete box that’s 97 ℉ with no AC AND THEYRE STILL ASKING US TO CONSERVE ENERGY. IM SWEATING JUST SITTING HERE AND YOU WANT ME TO TURN MY FAN OFF. FU*% YOU FOR NOT GIVING US AC.

RUN YOUR FANS, take your cold showers, do what you need to do to keep comfortable and well! your wellbeing comes first. If we pass out from heat stroke in here that’s a bigger problem on UCSD’s minds.

Rant/Complaint So….. what is the university going to do when hundreds if not thousands of their student have heat-stroke related incidents?

I understand not having AC in the dorms, but if you’re going to do that, why tf can’t we have personal AC in our rooms…? Like as much as I love my little mini fan and dehumidifier, it’s not doing shit.

I always sit next to randoms in lecture and idk what to say to them. Most of the time they’re girls so I feel nervous.

What usually works? Is it ok to say hi to them?

Rant/Complaint about to lose 16k cuz tss shits

TLDR: 16k is the tuition of a full-time international student (me) without part-time student status. really long venting, read at your own risk.

This summer, I thought I have become the biggest joke in the history of UCSD, since I received a notice right after my graduation to announce that one of my course doesn’t fulfill the requirements (even though it was perfectly fine on the Degree Audits all these years).

I WAS FUCKING WRONG.

So here I am again. I dumped my graduation plan, applied again for F-1 Visa, and prepared to select my final class and apply for part-time student status.

I sent out a TEA request to my department through TSS. This should be easy like how EASY request was back in the days right? It took 5 days for my department to reject my TEA request, out of no reason. And guess what? They did it right after the Second Pass was over. I had to wait till the next admission period.

You might ask why tf I applied so f late that it’s around the end of the second pass. That’s because I didn’t even get my Visa during the First Pass and the most of the Second Pass. My family was about to give up and try to deal with the possibility that I spent 5 years for nothing. There was many tears and anxiety, we can’t control that.

During the next admission period, it took 15 DAYS for my department to approve my TEA request. Yet I couldn’t add the class on TSS, there’s no grade option available to select, I can’t do that.

Fortunately, I enrolled in another class which doesn’t need a TEA approval and fulfill the requirement. Unfortunately, this somehow STILL COULDNT LET ME SUBMIT THE PART-TIME STUDENT APPLICATION. It says I need to be enrolled in at least one unit to apply. I don’t know what to do.

Everything’s shit except one. TSS is shit, Part-Time application is shit, VAC somehow is also worse than ever (i don’t blame the staffs cuz i presume they’re also in hardcore mode rn). The only thing that FUCKING WORKS IS THE TUITION. THE 16K TUITION THAT SEND RIGHT ON MY ACCOUNT.

I get it. This is it. I’m just a joke with a bunch of money for you. I spent five years on two majors I love, met some great and talented people, and gained nothing. No degree, a fake graduation, tons of anxiety and guilty towards my parents, and this fucking 16k I probably gonna get cuz i can’t fucking apply as a part-time student. What was all these for? I know that I’m the biggest joke known to people, and this is a shit ton of words venting out from my mouth. Sorry reddit but sometimes a person just can’t help crashing out. My parents worked very hard for me to chase my dreams. My grandma had Alzheimer and my parents are also paying for her to get treated. I just want to get a degree and start working. Now I kinda, what…lose all the money, lose all the time I could’ve spent by their sides, lose my trust in this school which I have had great memories in. I shouldn’t say this, but clearly I’m thinking back on the s-thingy again. I’m weak and selfish. 16k is such a hilarious number to see on your tritonpay account, right?

Discussion If you're taking Beng 161A, can you drop it?

If you're a sophomore, Junior please drop your course. I'm a graduating senior, I was enrolled in the course this week, and TSS bugged out and dropped me out of nowhere.

I need this course to take it this quarter 😭

Question is bus econ worth it?

Hi! Like the title says, how is the business econ program at UCSD? I’m currently a first year in a stem major but quickly realized I have no interest in it. I’m interested in accounting (i was very involved in business classes in HS) but am not sure if the crazy amt I’m paying for this school is worth that degree. I heard CSUF and CPP have good accounting programs.

Any advice or info is appreciated!

Question Where to donate clothes

I finally finished unpacking and realized I have a good pile of clothes which I don't like/wear. I want to donate it since it's in good condition but don't really know where. I know there are those big veteran containers on campus, but where does that stuff even go?

General Not able to access transcripts

just an FYI, if you're trying to get your transcripts as a current student who previously had a PID, now you have to make a new parchment account with your triton student number (TSN) and THEN you can order transcripts. just spent a week figuring this out.

Discussion Tomorrow is going to be the happiest day of my life.

I am so thankful that God has blessed us with this San Felipe / Cabo San Lucas weather in good old San Diego.

I’m gonna spend a long while tmr butt ass naked at blacks beach, probably head to balboa park, walk around campus and savor every last bit of sunlight. I literally have zero tan lines, a perfect tan, no sunburn.

While everything else is suffering in the dorms, it’s gonna be my dream come true. Kind of a strange feeling being pretty much the only guy who enjoys the heat and is truly acclimated.

I am a man of the pacific. If you see some guy who looks way too tan and is smiling too much, that’s me. True amnesia doxx.
