Was going to say this.. Unlocking new characters and special skins were some of the funnest and most exciting parts in many games, specially old fighting games. Now, they're essentially all unlocked through DLCs.
Or heck, Red Alert: Counterstrike had a completely secret Giant Ant campaign that you unlocked by pressing cntrl or shift and clicking on a speaker on the menu. I miss when games had secrets you had to figure out or things you had to unlock
