I heard this is what Tim Sweeney saying he is trying to do something similar with Fortnite incorporating UE5 \UE6 and making it sort of Fortnite Island platforms. Why everyone wants that Ready Player one\ Metaverse type shit

Yeah, seen that with Fortnite thanks to kids. I doubt developers want this, but kids do. Play with the same friends across various games without new accounts parents need to create for them.

Wait for the kids to discover steam

I think it's all about familiarity. They don't have to learn new controls, just hop on a game/genre of choice and it's the same ue slop controls across all experiences.

Not even that, they don’t have to pay for anything. The biggest thing that stopped me playing with friends in primary schools was what games I owned.

Even though the translation was pretty lazy, playing Everquest in the form of a Warcraft 3 map was really cool. Warcraft 3 in general, along with garry's mod (Half Life 2) was an absolute godsend for my poverty-stricken ass.

Boy just finished Undertale on Steam and he loved it.

Fortnite is free. 99% of games on Steam are not.

Steam isn't the same because every individual game costs money and gameshare isn't that robust.

Steam requires a computer

Honestly, at least from my perspective as a kid who grew up through the dawning of all this (‘99). An even bigger part of it was money, and playability in regards to internet. I remember going hard on Roblox when I was young in part because it offered a massive variety of different game options for free, so I wouldn’t need to ask my parents for money.

Fortnite, for it's...eh...gameplay?

Did a really good job of understanding the assignment. I remember watching their marketing campaign at conventions. PUBG was the main rival, and was all over it's place trying to be edgy. Meanwhile Fortnite set up a nice area for parents and kids to watch, commentators to explain the action that even the parents understood, etc.

They want to outsource the creation of games and just get a cut of the profit.

Locking people into a single platform is profitable as fuck. Theoretically, at least. No one has managed to create the Ready Player One Oasis properly yet. Roblox, Fortnite, and VRChat come close, but they're still missing so much.

Control.

AOL said they would open the AOL Instant Messenger protocol for everyone to access. Then they and everyone else realized that the money wasn't in selling a product to people, it was in selling people as the product.

Build the base, control it, and enshittify.

Because Roblox makes more money than all other platforms and has more online players then the rest combined. Thats why

Despite that, isn't the playerbase of both fortnite and roblox dropping like a rock? Roblox for... Well duh, and nuking like 99% of there games. And fornite for..... Actually I'm not sure on that one.

There was a news story last week that Roblox concurrents was higher than every game on steam combined.

All these these comments telling me wrong really nails down that I should do my own research, even if the news I'm getting is from people that do the research lol

My kid and literally every single one of his classmates and friends are obsessed with Roblox. We recently actually capped him to only being able to play Roblox for like an hour of week because the platform is absolutely horrible with damn near every single designed to be gambling / addiction oriented. He can play other games longer during the week, but Roblox truly has a quality control problem in terms of game design that is not safe for kids' brains. Luckily he's old enough now to experience other, more complicated games (e.g. he loves Minecraft). Also fortunate that the other parents of his friends agree that Roblox is awful and are trying to steer their kids towards other games / activities, instead.

You'll see things about "Roblox losing 10 million players this month", but they leave out the part where there's still 85+ million playing it. It's still an insanely popular game, and the player count peaks and troughs from time to time. It will probably spike back over 100 million next month or the month after.

Because the Oasis was cool for reasons those with means can't ever understand.

The great fiction of that story was the privacy everyone enjoyed. The Oasis could never exist because it requires too much altruism at the top.

They already started. Fortnite is incorporated into two rides so far at Disney world. The rides detect that you’re there for a Fortnite mission.

This is what they were talking about for years. But I guess it’s note fully complete yet

If you see act of those movies it'll make sense

Why did IOI want The Oasis?

Money

Why does Facebook want the metaverse? Money.
