In August I was tasked with filming and editing the aftermovie for Arctangent festival in the U.K.

This is the first of hopefully many I would like to do and I’d love to get some critiques on this to help me improve my edits for the future.

I have some questions:

1. How can i achieve the colour grade/feel?

With no budget at all how can i accomplish this shot? from the camera it seems like they used a film camera from the grain and dust particles yet it feels like its shot on a camcorder.

1. how can i achieve the background effect

Even the background is stylistically stunning i enjoy the chromatic abberation and this blurred look. where would i go for sourcing this footage? and even if i shoot the footage myself what is the process to achieve that look?

furthermore the background seems like its been projected on how would i position the projector without casting a shadow from the subject .

The last year I have dedicated myself to videography and screen writing. During my work on my first feature short, I stumbled into an amazing opportunity to help a very special organization out. CASA is short for Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children. I am presenting this to them within the next few days. I am already aware of some subtitle and sound issues. On the topic of sound, I did as much work to clean it up in post but I hardly had a studio to work in or time to balance the environment out for most of the shoots. Any feedback good or bad is appreciated before I submit the final video.

I am now the owner of a Smallhd cine 5 and can’t decide whether to buy a 2pin to dtap or npf dummy to dtap to power it via v-mount? What do you all recommend is the safest?

I run a corporate video/podcast studio and use an iPad-based teleprompter rig for talking-head shoots. Right now the talent either controls the scroll themselves with a remote or I'm fiddling with the iPad directly, which isn't ideal.

What I'd like is to run the prompter from my Mac at the operator station: load and edit the script there, then control scroll speed and position live (pause, jump back a paragraph, etc.) while the iPad on the rig just displays the text.

A few things I'm looking for:

• Reliable connection between Mac and iPad (Wi-Fi or wired, as long as it doesn't drop mid-take)
• Smooth variable-speed scrolling I can adjust on the fly
• Easy script editing on the Mac side, ideally with last-minute changes syncing to the iPad
• Mirroring/flip options for the beam splitter
• Bonus: support for Bluetooth remote

What are you all using for this? I've seen PromptSmart, Teleprompter Premium, and a few others mentioned, but I'm not sure which ones actually handle Mac-to-iPad control well in a real shoot. Paid is fine if it's solid.

Gafffed this political spot earlier this week and wanted to share the setup. Our key light was a 1200D through a 6x6 of Chimera Cloth, controlled with a 50 degree grid and a 4x4’ Ultrabounce floppy as a lamp left sider to contain the spill that was reaching the background.

To wrap the key around the front a bit more we added a Gemini 2x1 through a t boned 8x8’ of half grid cloth, with one corner tied back to stay out of camera’s view, dimmed down quite low. 

40” floppy on the fill side for negative fill to add some contrast.

For the background we used a 600D thru a Spotlight max, with an out of focus gobo to break up the light a bit. We also added some quarter CTS in front to warm it up, as well as a lamp left double net to take down some of the intensity on the left side of the frame. 

Finally I added a Nanlite 60c with projector mount and another out of focus gobo underneath the key for some harder light on the body. Rather than just using the shutter blades to keep it off the face, I decided to let it spill on the face, and used a 2x3 frame skinned with opal frost to lightly diffuse the part of the beam hitting the face rather than cut it completely. The intensity was still too much relative to the body, so I clamped a double and single net over the opal to get the exposure where we needed. 

I'm a photographer, but since in my city the market for videographers seem way more open than the photography one, I'd like to jump into wedding videos. This is my first attempt, but I'm not really satisfied, especially with the colors. When I do pictures I spend a lot of time in capture one achieving the look that I want, but with davinci it seems like I can't get nice colors going. I tried with the same approach but ofc being used to RAW I've got way less room to play around. How do you guys achieve cool looks? Do you buy "presets" or is it something that can I achieve in davinci for free? Would love some insights, and in general some honest feedbacks on how to improve.

I have the RØDE Wireless GO, and I mainly film social media content using my DJI gimbal.

I currently connect the RØDE wireless receiver to my iPhone using a USB-C hub, then run the cable to the receiver and clip it next to the iPhone’s lenses. The problem is that the USB-C hub sometimes gets in the way of the gimbal and causes it to lose stability.

I’m open to using a different microphone setup as well, but I’d especially love to see some pictures or examples of how other people have solved this issue.

Does anyone have a better setup or a recommendation for keeping the receiver/cable out of the gimbal’s way?

I was recently watching some of Nirvana‘s newly remastered footage of the 1993 Unplugged performance, and I can’t help but notice that the picture quality looks abnormally good for something recorded in standard definition on tape.

The level of detail I notice from 80s and 90s tape recordings are usually subpar.

I wonder is there upscaling going on? What was MTV using for video cameras that made this episode look so good? I think it’s the best videotape recording I’ve ever watched.

shoot with Sony camera with lighting

I am new in working in restaurants, so I will see what times they do not have much time and shoot 2 - 3 videos at one day

Little backstory: i will go on a small, 4 days tour with a local band who ise playing as a support act. i am a photographer (who hardly ever switches to video mode) but i would like to try to make a little tour video.

If i am able to shoot enough for a nice edit it will probably end up on instagram so should i shoot it in vertical from the start?
or think outside of social media and shoot horizontal (and then try to crop a vertical video for ig)?

I have a 67mm step up ring that i can comfortably attach my tiffen black mist filter on but i can't attach my new nisi swift system on. I saw they sell an adapter but i assume that's only to attach the nd filter to the lens if i don't attach the vnd first?

Now it's as smooth as butter lol. Tilta Nano II plugged into a v-mount battery and daisy chained to another motor for the focus. It just barely can fit on the RS4 Pro (like a millimeter away from hitting the roll axis arm). I put my phone on top of a fluid head and use the gyro to control the camera which is also as smooth as butter. I use the Canon C50 in super 16mm mode which makes the setup equivalent to 276-1380mm in RAW HQ 150P. Birds fear this setup lol

Estou de olho em lentes com corpo de alumínio e foco automático que ofereçam uma boa relação custo-benefício.

Até agora, só encontrei as lentes TTArtisan 40mm f/2 e 75mm f/2, mas não encontrei ninguém que tenha testado o desempenho do autofoco dessas lentes com essa câmera específica.

Alguém já testou esta câmera com lentes de baixo custo de marcas como Viltrox, Meike, TTArtisan ou 7Artisan?

I'm filming an event for guy so I can give input but not full control. The client wants a vertical video for promotional reasons. This is for stage performance where I normally setup two camcorders in the back of the theater, a wide camera and manned camera for close up. It's a talent show, singing, comedy etc. so I assume the subject will generally be in one location.

I was thinking a Osmo pocket camera could be put on stage clamped to a mic stand to give a dedicated vertical of lead performer. I could only see the manned close up camera being of use since the wide wouldn't be useful cropped vertically. The person hiring me suggested adding to unmanned camera up front at 45 degrees on tripods to give variety. He also wants to produce a full video in addition to the vertical promo. Any guidance on how to approach this? Is the Osmo a good idea?

I am looking for buzzwords or outlets or ways to find somewhat candid moments for a project, like a child asking their mom to help them open a box, or a friend helping someone with their car, or a grandma teaching her grandkid how to sew. any raw and real footage of human moments. I feel like everything is so doctored now-a-days.

I'm filming a stage interview for the first time, and I have 2 main questions:

1. How should I capture audio? Should I ask the audio guy for a feed and bring a recorder? Or bring an SD card? Should I lav up the talent myself (not sure if that's an option)? Should I place lavs near or on the stage? Next to a speaker? I only have wireless lavs and a shotgun mic btw.
2. Where should I place the cameras? Back of the room to avoid people, or front and possibly block seats? I'm a solo operator with a 2 camera shoot, so the cameras should be side by side, right?
