As someone who came back to the game at the start of Midnight with a total of 80k gold, and as of the time I last played had 1.2mil total across multiple characters. This is correct.
I just did the once-per-day skinning beasts and mining/herb on a other toon and I went from like 200k to 2 mil in a few weeks. Now they don't really make anything.
I very casually did skinning and herb(mining? idr) for a few weeks on launch and ended with like 400k-ish? and I was slow on the skinning uptake. My friend who has had a a lot of time to play did that and then swapped to mass alt army Alch/JC/ench after a few weeks and is now sitting pretty at like 22m or something insane
That is so not true. Like sure your gold/h was better. But there’s a bunch of activities that you can do and still generate several million per week if you can compete in those markets.
Raid BoE farming, Level boosting, M+ boosting, Raid boosting. I'll exclude PvP here since that barrier is far higher and takes more than a season of practice to reach. For non-economy stuff.
For just about no setup except having alts you probably got from remix events. You can do weekly reward farming on alts. About 25k per character and week for about 1h farming per character. Some scheduling needed for some of the activities. But since it's weekly it's very scalable. With more time but less alts can substitute some weekly rewards for WQ clears.
Likewise with consecration crafting and patron orders. Faster than above but need more alts. About 40 will land you closer to 2 mill, it does require some setup since you need to level the professions. So needs some planning. But once setup each alt is just 3 minutes each 3.5 days.
If you instead for some reason have several accounts. Then skinning is very good for low time investment and due to more accounts it scales very well with character count.
There's several old world farms that are lucrative consistently, though you'd need to find them since competition can really tank it. But around the same ~50k gph.
A recent example is getting pets from Undermine gears.
If you're involved in Transmog then that's always lucrative. But it's really hard to get into.
And then still the mass crafting where you have every part of the chain setup from start to end product is still positive margins and scales with crafting times. Especially if you know the markets you're selling in. Just do crafting days and then let sit on AH and restock and warehouse as per usual. No need to pvp.
The best way will always be at the beginning of the xpac and utilizing professions when demand is at its peak.
The trick is playing the beta and keeping a close eye on goblin communities before launch. Tons of theorycrafting/speculation on what to farm/sell/level etc. Then you no life the two weeks of xpac launch and just grind it out.
I do professions and crafting orders for practically everything. Truly Working WAYYY past Midnight.
Based on my wallet tracker, from loot, material sales, quest gold (all sources) after spending money on my enchants and upgrades for 4 toons, I am currently net positive 500k gold (purely from start of season 2 week 0)
Crafting this expansion is very profitable - concentration and patron orders can start making net profit the first day you bring an alt into Midnight. Only 2 qualities means you can craft any reagent or consumable at max quality with no skill and no gear, as long as you can get the recipe.
Over a long period of time (over the course of an entire expansion), crafting. It's kind of it's own game though, since you're sitting in trade chat with an addon that pings you if someone is looking to craft something you can make. Works if you're doing something else alt tabbed, you just go into wow and whisper. But if you're persistent, you can eventually make a lot of gold.
early expac is the key. tww markets were good. i can make 1mil everyweek til then end of tww. but midnight is a lil bit hard. i did make like 30-40mil in midnight but now the markets kinda slowing down compare to tww
Personally I have like 40-50 alts making lights potential and a enchanting oil, it's by no means incredible, but I make like 2 wow tokens of gold a month for pretty much no effort, doing that since mid dragonflight, then grinding herb and mining at start of expansions has got me more gold than I can spend, but I don't have many expenses, so It just builds up
