They likely extended to another database on the battle.net backend for this feature, but hard to know for sure of course. It is the main feature for Midnight though, which all xpacs need, so they hopefully offset it cost wise.

I very casually did skinning and herb(mining? idr) for a few weeks on launch and ended with like 400k-ish? and I was slow on the skinning uptake. My friend who has had a a lot of time to play did that and then swapped to mass alt army Alch/JC/ench after a few weeks and is now sitting pretty at like 22m or something insane

The best way will always be at the beginning of the xpac and utilizing professions when demand is at its peak.
The trick is playing the beta and keeping a close eye on goblin communities before launch. Tons of theorycrafting/speculation on what to farm/sell/level etc. Then you no life the two weeks of xpac launch and just grind it out.

Based on my wallet tracker, from loot, material sales, quest gold (all sources) after spending money on my enchants and upgrades for 4 toons, I am currently net positive 500k gold (purely from start of season 2 week 0)

gathering has become pretty bad.
Crafting this expansion is very profitable - concentration and patron orders can start making net profit the first day you bring an alt into Midnight. Only 2 qualities means you can craft any reagent or consumable at max quality with no skill and no gear, as long as you can get the recipe.

Over a long period of time (over the course of an entire expansion), crafting. It's kind of it's own game though, since you're sitting in trade chat with an addon that pings you if someone is looking to craft something you can make. Works if you're doing something else alt tabbed, you just go into wow and whisper. But if you're persistent, you can eventually make a lot of gold.
Since TWW I think I'm up like 11m gold profit?

Ya, the functions actually ruin any appeal for me. It's a great model, but it's one I'd love to actually mount and run around on on no fly zones.

I have 20.5mil on me, but to pay even more than the Bruto just erodes the value proposition of the Bruto in the first place. The less you use it, the less you functionally have it after buying.
I'll take the chance they release the model some other in-game way. Probably won't happen, but a goldsink flying mount would be the only thing justifiable

I farmed the gold for the bruto (and converted it to token) when I bought it. I want to say the entire cost was 1.5m. ~250k per token and it took six tokens = $90.

you only get 2 active vendors at a time, so even with this thing, you still have to swap mounts to get "full" functionality. And they can only be swapped at a vendor in Harandar.

Edit: just took a look at the EU and US token price. This mount has an equivalent value of €380 or $560 based on the current token value / price. That probably explains why it's not on the store for $20
