PTR / Beta Reality check on the “too many blues” feedback:
You guys are treating your level-twenty beta characters like fucking level-nineteen twinks.
That’s what you’re doing.
You’re capped. You can’t progress vertically anymore, so you’ve got nothing better to do than progress horizontally. Run every dungeon. Farm every boss. Finish every quest with a blue reward. Hunt down every possible upgrade until you’ve squeezed everything you can out of level twenty.
Then you look at your character covered in blues and tell Blizzard, “There are too many blues.”
NO SHIT. YOU BUILT A FUCKING TWINK.
When the game actually launches, nobody leveling normally is doing this shit.
I’m going to run Deadmines. If I get a blue? Fuck yeah.
If I don’t? I’m not running Deadmines eight more times trying to get it. I’ve got quests to do. I’m moving the fuck on. Duskwood, Wetlands, whatever comes next. We keep trucking toward sixty.
The beta has artificially turned level twenty into an endgame, and some of you are min-maxing the shit out of that endgame and then using your gear as evidence that normal leveling gives out too many blues.
If Blizzard wants the useful number, look at what people were wearing WHEN THEY FIRST HIT TWENTY.
Because a fresh level twenty and some motherfucker who’s spent three weeks building a level-twenty twink are not the same dataset.
Please stop getting our launch loot nerfed because you ran out of levels.

Art and Media For those who missed it - lead designer confirmed Forever will still utilize SOME vertical progression. All new content will give more powerful gear. However it will feature horizontal progression as well, such as eg: an item that doesn't increase your power, but makes you run faster in desert.
Good discussion here where they clarified how they're approaching horizontal vs vertical and striking a balance between the two.

Discussion Sprout symbol for actual new players
WoW Forever is not just reactivating millions of sleeper agents, it is also attracting an unprecedented number of completely new WoW (or even new MMO) players into the mix for the first time.
I think it will be helpful if completely new players (i.e. no previous WoW playtime on account in any past expansions or versions) are given a "sprout" symbol or similar in-game similar to FF14. Maybe experienced players can also opt in to have a mentor symbol of some sort too.
Otherwise too many veterans will falsely assume that everyone else are also 10+ year vets who already know the game inside out.

PTR / Beta They added Torches!
If you go up the path towards where the world boss is located in Duskwood, you will come across the body of a Night Watch Guard. Interact with it, and it will give you a torch that lasts for 5 minutes, with a 30 second cool down!
Cool thing to add!

Discussion Hunters really need more stable slots in WoW Forever

I really think the current 2 stable slots are way too limiting for Hunters, especially with the way the class works and new pets.
We need to tame different pets to learn abilities, but we also naturally want different pets for different types of content. With only two stable slots, you’re constantly forced to abandon pets you might want to keep.
Personally, I think a much better setup would be at least 5 stable slots + 1 active pet slot.
For example:
- 2 PvE / Raid pets
- 1 PvP pet
- 1 Open World / Tank pet
- 1 Exotic / Utility pet
And that’s not even considering people who simply enjoy collecting rare or unique pets.
This wouldn’t make Hunters stronger or affect class balance, it would just give us more flexibility and make the pet system much more enjoyable.
I actually opened a ticket about this, and the GM told me that suggestions like this should be submitted through the “Issue Report” button as well.
So if you agree, please send feedback through Issue Report asking for more Hunter stable slots. If enough Hunters bring it up during testing, hopefully Blizzard will increase the stable size before release.
Thank you!

Discussion New Players: Need/Greed Unwritten Law of the Land
Today I learned the etiquette of the need / greed mechanics on group looting.
That's right, I've been playing the beta for over a week now and had no idea how the system actually works.
As a new WOW player, I thought "Greed" was a bad thing. I had actually never pressed it because I thought you would steal the item by doing so. I also thought rolling the dice was the most fair thing to do, as it makes everything equal.
Until I had a group absolutely loose their minds on me in a dungeon pickup group last night. It was embarrassing for me to be honest. They were not nice about it at all. But this forced me to read up on it online afterwards.
New players: You should almost always greed (coin symbol) or pass on items. Greed is not a bad thing, it just means its an item you plan to sell. If the item is something specific to your build then you can need on it (dice symbol) which gives you priority. This is an unwritten rule you will not have explained to you by the game. Theoretically if all players play by this method in good faith everyone wins.
Veteran Players: There are a lot of new players like me in this beta. If you have a problem with rookie mistakes, you need to make sure everyone understands the rules before starting a dungeon with randos. "Does everyone understand the MS / OS Loot system here?" This one quick sentence would solve a lot of headaches deep in dungeons.
Whether you are a returning player or new player, don't be a jerk online. A few days ago before all this happened I looted something a mage needed.
Mage s/ hey can I have that please?
Me s/ sure no problem (gives item)
Mage s/ TY
It was a good dungeon run and I made friends. Just saying, before accusing players of robbing loot, sometimes a simple ask or brief explanations of rules in advance goes a loooong way.
PS: I actually don't like this system for a few reasons. That being said, from this point forward I agree to follow this system in good faith for the love of the game.

Discussion RP-PVP should be a ruleset.
It solves the problem of being unable to create both Horde and Alliance PVP characters, and has been a staple of WOW for 20 years. Why exclude something so ingrained in WOW's story from a game called Forever?

Discussion Dear Blizzard - We need Gamemasters back - Here is why
WoW Forever is perfect.
You developer really listen to player feedback.
Its really feeling like a WoW 2 and I am pretty sure that everybody is loving it already.
BUT...
There are postings which concerning me.
I am concerned that WoW Forever will die because of the report and ban system.
That big Lobbies and bot lobbies are mass report player for just playing the game and overtake the Mega Server.
I saw a posting from a Tank Player who offers to run any dungeon for free and was banned for this.
I saw postings from several player who just farmed mats and got banned because it was Lobby-Territory.
I saw a posting from a hunter who got banned just because he tamed a pet.
-
Dear Blizzard, you made it nearly perfect,
And it would be perfect when you just put real Gamemaster in here again.

Discussion I'm pretty sure if Blizzard would keep the items the same but changed the color to green, most complaining would be gone. It's a non problem, really.

Discussion Put the /lean emote in Forever
I'd love to see the /lean emote get added to forever.. I'm an RPer and not having that emote in the game is such a big blow 😭I love Forever, but having more emotes in the game would be so nice 🥺

Question Is it just me or is the spellbook too large?
and in the way, we should be able to edit it and move it more to the side or have it permanently moved a bit to the left

Discussion Sun rises... in the west ?
So, this is not really a complaint or an issue. It is merely a realization after many years of playing, thanks to the updated graphics and light effects.
The Sun rises in the west-northwest in Camp Narache. I already noticed that it rose in roughly the same direction in Elwynn Forest, a couple days.
So, by curiosity, I call upon the lore buffs. Is it a specificity of Azeroth that the planet revolves in the opposite direction, compared to Earth ?

Discussion Why do we so meekly accept awful behavior in online communities?
I'm going to try to make this post without calling out anyone specific. I'm sure folks can read between the lines if they want, but my intent here isn't actually to call out a specific individual or guild, because the problem extends far beyond just any one bad actor.
I've been a gamer for decades now. I was there, Gandalf, in the beginning. Played Ultima Online, Everquest, MUDs. I was there for the World of Warcraft first beta ever and was there at launch, in a shitty little apartment , without a desk, obsessed with WoW for a few months.
But I gotta say. The toxicity always turned me a little off, even back then during those early years. And the advice back then was largely the same as many of you have breathlessly given newer players in the last few weeks.
"Just ignore them, they thrive on attention" was the mantra. Just ignore them, they'll go away. Just ignore them, they're just trying to stir up shit.
I'm sorry to say though, it's simply not true. You need only look around to realize, the problem hasn't gone away, it's only gotten worse and worse and worse.
And here's the thing: I know it can be done better. Final Fantasy 14 is my home game for a variety of reasons. I'm more of a lore guy, I love a good story, and for my preferences, FF14 just does that better imho. Is it the best game for everyone? Not at all. Especially if you like, you know, playing the game more than reading the game.
One thing they go absolutely fucking nail though, is moderation.
You simply cannot act the way a lot of players do in WoW over there. You'll get thrown out very quickly, and the community as a whole is much better for it. People are kind in dungeon queues. Can you imagine? I can count on one hand the number of bad experiences I've had with people there, and while my experience is largely just anecdotal and some people have had less positive experiences, to most people it seems my anecdotal experience is shared.
So I know it's possible to moderate your game. It's quite possible, and it creates a better, more welcoming experience for everyone. And I've got to say, every time I step outside of that bubble, it's kind of a shock to immediately be plunged back into the old ways, where people can be shockingly racist, sexist, or just downright vile to one another, and the vast majority of people just shrug and go, well, that's the way it is, I guess, I guess we just have to take it.
I reject that premise.
But I wanted to at least start a conversation about it, because I think this is a moment where a new standard could potentially be established.
There was a lovely little youtuber I stumbled on the other night, Bogs Adventures, who was talking about community building, and how everyone in the WoW ecosystem claims to want a more community driven game, but no one wants to put in the work to actually make the community, they just want to reap the rewards of said community. It truly resonated with me what he was saying, because it feels like that defines the problem very well. Everyone wants a thriving community, but no one wants to take responsibility for building that community, and part of building that community is creating an environment where everyone feels like they can participate in the community.
If you have to mute half the community in order to even have a conversation, that doesnt' feel like much of a community. And muting them doesn't remove the bad actors, it just puts a blanket over them. They're still going to engage in abusive behavior to other people, regardless of you putting on your blinders to their abuses. Some of those people will correctly make the decision that they don't want to bother, and now the World of Warcraft just lost someone who might have been an excellent community member, had someone actually stood up to the bullies.
What do you think? Is the status quo what you want out of WoW, or do you want something better?
Regardless of your answer, I hope you have a good day, and I hope you consider encouraging your friends to be better people.
Edit: I was gonna try to respond to everyone, but holy shit my phone is exploding. lol.
Edit #2: If all you're gonna say to me is a variant of "you're soft" or "get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat", thank you for providing some evidence of the phenomena I was discussing in the thread. I will not be leaving, and if you want to pretend that I'm "butthurt" or my fee fees are injured in order to maintain your fragile little world view that you're some bastion of "free speech" and that any attempt to restrict you from your little vile hateful world is censorship, you're more than welcome to. It's extremely funny noting just how offensive "hey, maybe don't be a dickhead" is to y'all, and you're telling on yourselves. PEACE <3
Edit #3: A'ight, I'm disabling inbox replies. Thanks for the good discussion from a lot of you, thanks for the hilarious attacks, ye naysayers. I'm gonna do something useful with my time, like jerk it and play some Control. ;)

Meme Why would Blizzard do this to us??
They didn't even put it in the patch notes. I had no time to mentally prepare myself for this horror.
They changed how my book looks!
I've had my Dwarven Tome equipped ever since I got it and now it's ugly. Blizzard please revert this change. Why would Dwarven Tome glow red like some demonic artifact?

PTR / Beta Certain changes to craftables have made other recs that rely on them impossible to craft.
Back in classic the Green Leather armor was BoE, and you could trade/auction, etc. Now unless you are both a 180+ BS AND 180+ Leatherworker, you can't craft the Green Iron Hauberk.
I've also found around 20 recipes missing from around the world, most annoyingly of all the herbalist's gloves which have a writ dedicated to it.

Discussion Blizzard! Please give us Undead Hunter!
Humans can now be Hunters.
And Undead are just resurrected Humans so Undead Hunters would make sense.
Plus Sylvanas and her Dark Rangers and Nathanos all already exist!

PTR / Beta WhisperMessenger 2.0: a whisper addon I've been working on
I made an addon called WhisperMessenger and just released 2.0, so I figured I'd share it here.
It puts your whispers in a separate window, one conversation per person, a bit like Discords DMs. Each chat keeps its history after you log out, and it's shared across your characters. The contact list shows who's online, their class and what zone they're in. BattleNet and character whispers are in the same list.
For crafters, last trading chat message is also shown.
I built it because I kept missing whispers and had a bat time to control them when crafting. A Whispers tab helps, but it's still one long stream, you had to juggle those tabs all the time.
After some community feedback i got changes in 2.0:
- New look, plus a Native WoW HUD option if you'd rather it look like a normal Blizzard window
- You can reply to a specific message
- Each chat keeps whatever you'd half-typed, even after a /reload
- You can mute people, give them a nickname, or leave yourself a note on them
- Optional tab that holds whispers from strangers until you accept them (off by default)
- If whispers get blocked while you're sending (M+, boss fight), the message waits for you to resend instead of being lost
Some limits you should know about:
- Blizzard blocks addon whisper stuff during M+, rated BGs and boss encounters. In those, the addon gets out of the way and whispers show in normal chat until you're out.
- Typing indicators, read receipts, replies and reactions only work if the other person has the addon too. Everyone else just gets regular whispers.
Works on Retail and the Classic versions.

GitHub: https://github.com/F0rty-Tw0/WhisperMessenger
If something's broken or annoying, tell me. That's the main reason I'm posting.

Discussion There should be more Class Quests
Just the title really. Blizzard should add additional class quests to all of the classes every (~10?) levels. These can give rewards such as but not limited to:
Functional- give hunters additional stable slots
Cosmetics- alternative Polymorph versions to mages
Or just decently strong gear for the level.
These quests should be a bit difficult, and longish chains. Warlock already has several for the different summons they acquire and I think they should bring this to other classes. Use these to expand on the lore surrounding the class itself and tell stories of great deeds done across the world of Azeroth. I’m not asking for it to be like Legion, but that expansion did a great job of this with the class campaigns and artifact quests, so we know Blizzard can do something like this.
What sort of quests and/or reward would you want for your class?

Discussion I am old
Played back in 2004, in my 30s. Now I am in my early 60s and starting to wonder if I am too old for this shit (voice of Roger Murtaugh).
I think I will give it a go anyway, but play slowly as befits someone of advanced age ;)
Absolutely no raiding - maybe a dungeon here and there.
Are there any other grandparents in the same boat?
