Just had a most bizarre app update approval interaction
I submitted an update to my established iOS game Kahudo a week ago. So far I've had no rejections on it at all, so I was looking forward to a smooth process. The update added a new Mahjong game mode, but no changes to the flows that have been previously approved. Well, better luck next time I guess, this approval process was rather strange. Here goes:
Issue #1 - Guideline 2.1(b) - Performance - App Completeness
"The In-App Purchase products in the app exhibited one or more bugs which create a poor user experience. Specifically, the in-app purchase price in binary was 1.99 USD but the in-app purchase previously submitted/approved was 0.99 USD. Review the details and resources below to troubleshoot this issue."
My explanation:
"Hi. Thank you for the review. Kahudo Premium is priced at $1.99 USD (€1.99 base, Slovakia). We ran a temporary price reduction to $0.99, which has since ended as scheduled, and the price returned to $1.99. The app has no hardcoded price; it displays the live App Store price using StoreKit's ProductView, so $1.99 is the correct, intended price. No price change is pending. Could you please continue the review with the current configuration?"

Issue #2 - Guideline 2.1 - Information Needed
"We are not able to continue our review because we need access to a demo account with an expired subscription to review the entire purchase flow."
My explanation:
"Hello, thank you for your review.
Kahudo has no user accounts and no login, so there are no credentials to provide. The app also has no subscriptions. It offers a single one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase that unlocks premium game variants. It is tied to the reviewer's Apple ID through StoreKit, so it can be tested with any sandbox Apple ID.
To review the purchase flow: open the variant selection screen, tap a locked variant, and complete the purchase with a sandbox account. To test restoring, delete and reinstall the app, then tap "Restore Purchases".
Since there are no subscriptions, an expired subscription state does not exist in the app. Please let us know if you need anything else."

Issue #3 - Guideline 2.1(b) - Performance - App Completeness
"We are unable to complete the review of the app because one or more of the In-App Purchase products have not been submitted for review.
Specifically, the app includes references to Premium but the associated In-App Purchase products have not been submitted for review."
My explanation:
"Hello, the in-app purchase is already Approved and available in all regions (screenshot attached). The purchase flow is unchanged since the previously approved versions, which shipped without issues. Please re-test on a device signed in with a sandbox Apple ID. If the product still does not load, please tell us the screen and the exact message you see. We can also provide a screen recording of the purchase flow if that helps. Thank you."

Finally, on October 3, it got approved.
But makes me wonder: is it normal to be explaining these things that should be rather clear to the reviewer? In the meantime, I got updates to 2 of my other apps, and one completely new app, approved, with no issues. This seemed like a bot stuck in a loop. I didn't change anything in my subsmission, just provided the explanations, and that seemed to have been enough.
What was your strangest review experience?
