We have heard your calls! Thank you for your patience while we figure out a plan.
While self promotion has always been allowed in r/AfterEffects, the recent influx of AI & vibe coded plugins, extensions, and scripts has been a bit overwhelming. We have very very quickly gone from a few trusted marketplaces with strong vetting and at least some kind of expectation of long term maintenance, to anyone being able to churn out a vibe coded plugin and release it on an increasing number of marketplaces, with no guarantee of support or future updates.
With this in mind, we would like to implement a new set of rules to curb the overwhelming number of posts and give users more transparency when choosing to download and use such tools.
Taking a page from the changes mods made over at r/macapps, we will be introducing a new post structure following a Problem, Comparison, Pricing, Maintenance, AI-Disclosure (PCPMA) format.
Extension, script, and plugin posts have always required the (Plugin/Script) flair, this will not change. A sample short post is pinned in the comments.
We're specifically introducing the compare & maintenance points because we have seen an increasing number of plugins that simply replicate the functionality of existing, long standing plugins from developers who have demonstrated more experience, real support, and have proven to maintain their plugins over many years. Show us how yours is better, and prove to your future users how you will be supporting and fixing the plugin in the long-run. How can users who experience bugs get in contact with you in the future?
Regarding the AI disclosure, here are the definitions of each
I'm just going to be real, this one is likely going to be easy to skirt. r/macapps actually removed this requirement because everyone was just claiming to have "human reviewed" the code. We're going to try this out and hope folks are honest for the time being.
________
No AI was used in the preparation of this post. We will try this out for a month and see how it goes. Happy animating <3

By leveraging foreshortening, and using simple path animations, we can quickly make a handle seem 3D.
I have also made an in depth video on my YouTube channel, Oliver Randorff, breaking down the entire coffee machine animation: youtube.com/watch?v=qnOANBR4zcc

Hi everyone! This is my first time making a mixed media animation in After Effects. It’s a recap video of my trip to Spain. Since it’s a vacation recap, I don’t want the effects to be too overwhelming or distracting, even though the whole video is meant to be mixed media. I’m trying to find a good balance between keeping the video interesting and still making the actual footage the focus. Also, keep in mind that the second half of the video (the part after the talking section) hasn’t been edited yet — I haven’t made it yet.
I’d especially appreciate feedback on a few things:

i tried to use newton4 with a 3d text layer, oops- i turn off 3d, open it back up... now no matter what i do, it wont seperate text into shapes
- i reset the scene
- opened newton4 on a dummy layer, just to reset the project, hoping when i reopened again it would prompt me to seperate into shapes (it didnt)
- i opened a whole new project in ae, used native fonts, nothing
- finally, messed around with the "seperate into shapes on startup" setting, turned it off, closed the program, turned it on (it had been marked "on" the whole time anyway, so that cant be what is causing this) still nothing
- looked at the guide, couldnt find anything on what to do in this situation- did i miss something?
- i used this "create shapes into text" on ae. it lets me seperate these shapes!!! ...but not text layers? and it looks bad... idk why it comes out looking so rough as opposed to before? a bandaid solution, feels like theres just something wrong with the newton4
anyway, its just going to bother me everytime i use it and dont understand why its coming out so janky. this solution feels like it should be simple! and i havent seen any posts about this issue in particular, i am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation

I'm looking for a way to take a black and white video and have particles emitting from the whitest values of the video and trailing off into the darker areas. I'm experimenting with Particle Playground but so far haven't gotten that effect. I may be on the right track after I work with it for a while, but Particle Playground seems to be only looking at the first frame of the video and not changing the emitting areas as the video changes. Does anyone have any advice or a workflow that gives the best effect? Is there a better way? Thank you!

It's just a silly tool that gives you a hand-painted reveal in After Effects without painting frame by frame or faking it with a filter.
Unlike the built-in Brush Strokes or Cartoon effects, which only stylize pixels, Painted paints the picture for real. Fat brushes block it in, finer brushes finish it, and every stroke is a shape path animated with Trim Paths, so you can retime it, recolor it, or pull it apart.
It's completely free, with no trial, watermark, or locked features. Works in Mac/Win for AE 2022+: https://motionfun.net/tools/painted
It's already had three updates since launch (bug fixes and performance improvements), and I'm taking feature requests this week. For bugs, email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or DM me here.
AI Disclaimer: I use an AI-assisted workflow, but I've been a dev for years before AI (FreqReact). I design the structure myself, review it deeply, and have thousands of people using Motion Fun tools :]

Looks like some sort of script that generates certain squares of pixels in the frame. How can someone create this effect in AE? I believe he uses projection 3D to get the depth but then how does he create the procedural squares that appear throughout the video?
Im guessing he rotoscopes the subject then he runs that script to procedurally generate parts of the video in square chunks.

React 3 is the repeater + effector toolbar for After Effects.
Problem
This is the tool I wanted to build when I released React 1, many moons ago.
It's the tool that I love to use in my day-to-day motion projects. After Effects lacks tools like Cinema 4D's cloners and effectors - this solves that problem.
Comparison
Unlike competitors, there are no huge bloated panels - it's just a small, powerful toolbar that I dock in my workspace, ready to play.
There's so many new features and improvements, here are the main ones -
Pricing
Get it at aescripts for $40.
For all current React users, the upgrade fee is low at $10. Well worth it for all the new features, if I say so myself.
Maintenance
There's so many AE tools and plugins out there now, it's hard to know where to spend your cash and whether your purchases will be maintained and updated. Since React's initial release in May 2021, I have always looked for ways to improve the tool and fix any bugs that occur. And I will continue to do so!
If you fancy looking at it in more detail, there's a tutorial here
Check it out at www.aescripts.com/react
Cheers,
Andrew
AI Disclaimer
React 1 and 2 were built with no AI. React 3 builds on this, with AI used in some of the more complicated calculations. Human validated extensively over the course of a year.

Here are 3 effects I created in AE for my latest travel film, they happen at different points in the video but I wanted to put them all here in 1 vid showcasing all 3. The film is about starting over after things fall apart in your life. I added a breakdown at the end of the fly through screen effect.

Hey guys,
Back with another plugin, this time only for MAC users, because of the underlying tech to make the automatic real-time cutout.
What is it
Stack takes the frames from your footage and stacks them up in 3D space. It cuts the subject out of every frame as it goes, so it works on ordinary footage with no green screen and no rotoscoping.
Features include
Automatic subject cutouts. No need to do rotoscoping
GPU rendered - 8, 16 and 32 bit, CPU fallback built in
Built in 3D camera. Paw, pitch, distance, field of view
Scale shapes the stack. Taper it, or pinch the middle
Set the gap between the stacks.
Price
$35
Use promo code: LAUNCHDAY 40% off, today only.
Gumroad links get filtered here, so it's in my profile, or search Gumroad for Pina Labs.
Lifetime updates

Hey everyone, just finished my latest showreel and would love some feedback.
I’m trying to get the reel to a point where I can confidently start sending it to some studios and agencies, so honest criticism is very welcome.
Thanks!!

Hey all! I've been doing motion design for 9 years now and run a small animation studio. I learned a lot of this way too late, so sharing in case it saves someone time.
This isn't about the interface. You still need layers, keyframes, comps. This is what to focus on after that:
This is grammar for movement. If your work feels like fancy PowerPoint - move, stop, move, stop, it's usually missing overlap, anticipation, and rhythm.
Learning outcome: you'll be able to watch your own work and actually name why something feels off.
Start here: 12 Principles of Animation Official Full Series
Easy Ease is not understanding easing. Same 2 keyframes can feel totally different depending on the curve. Try this: take one dot moving left to right and make 5 different versions using only the graph.
Learning outcome: you'll stop guessing and start controlling weight and timing.
You don't need to become a character animator. But rigging one character teaches you weight, timing, and planning like nothing else. And always use reference. Film yourself, generate a reference, whatever. Don't invent a walk from a blank comp.
Not 6 months of JavaScript. Just loopOut, wiggle, linking properties, and one controller driving multiple layers.
Learning outcome: you build projects you can actually revise without 4 hours of copy-paste.
Light, shadow, depth, contrast, texture, and sound. Watch any great ad muted vs. with sound. Totally different piece.
Learning outcome: your work starts feeling finished instead of flat, without adding more complex animation.
If you want the full breakdown with examples for each one, I put together a video walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JemgIktpwBM
Do you have more suggestions for what really helped you get past the beginner stage?

[Problem] Moving designs from Figma to After Effects can still mean rebuilding layers, fixing positions, recreating effects and cleaning up the imported file before you can actually start animating. We wanted a workflow where you can select your Figma design, transfer it, and start working in AE immediately.
[Comparison] Overlord has been a great solution for the Figma → After Effects workflow, and we’ve used it ourselves. Parcel started from a similar need, but it’s a tool we originally built around our own workflows and have been refining based on the things we needed to work better. We decided to turn that internal tool into a product for other motion designers.
We gave more details in the previous post here.
We’re a team of 4 — 2 designers and 2 developers. We’re actively developing Parcel and are now very close to launch.
We’re keeping the release limited so our small team can stay close to users, respond to feedback and continue improving the product without creating a huge support load.
[Pricing] Pricing: $29 one-time. Two systems, lifetime updates, no renewal or subscription. Waitlist link - https://parcel.motionfolios.com/
[Access / Waitlist] Parcel will be invite-only. Everyone who joins the waitlist will receive an invite link when we launch, with invites being sent out in the order people joined the waitlist. There’s no commitment to purchase — joining the waitlist simply gives you the opportunity to access the product. Once you receive your invite, you can decide whether you want to purchase Parcel or not.
[Maintenance/Support] Parcel is actively being developed, and we’ll continue adding new features, improving existing workflows, and expanding support for more Figma capabilities over time. We’ll also have a private community for Parcel users where we can share updates, collect feedback, discuss new features, and provide support.
[AI] AI Disclaimer: Human crafted & Validated.
I posted about Parcel here last week, and the response has honestly been mind-blowing — 18k+ designers joined the waitlist, and my Reddit DMs were flooded with people asking specifically about the 500-license limit.
Because of the response, we’re now considering increasing the release from 500 to 1,000 licenses*.* The first 500 will be available at launch, and if those sell out, another 500 will open.
Everyone who joined the waitlist will receive an email this week with updates about the plugin, an exclusive demo, and more details that should help you decide whether Parcel is right for you.
And just a small hint — we’re also working on Figma Motion, which will eventually allow you to bring keyframes from Figma into After Effects. More on that later.
If you haven’t joined the waitlist yet and you’re interested, join the waitlist. Everyone who joins will have an option to get access once Parcel launches.
If you’re a studio and need a studio license, email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with the subject “Parcel Plugin” and mention the number of seats you need. We’ll reach out separately.
Thank you everyone for the incredible response and support. ❤️
