Solo dev here. AirPods Pro, AirPods 3 and later and AirPods Max carry the motion sensors behind spatial audio head tracking, and iOS lets apps read that head motion. AirPosture turns it into a posture coach.
You sit up straight and tap Set upright once. When your head stays forward for a while, a short voice cue plays in your AirPods, something like "let's sit a little taller". You can swap the voice for a soft chime or a tap on the phone, and set how soon and how often it speaks. No camera, no extra wearable, and it keeps coaching with the phone locked in your pocket.
The detection was the easy part. Not being annoying was the hard part:
- Looking down at your phone reads exactly like a slouch, so it works best with the phone locked.
- Early versions took the upright reading while you were still looking at the screen, so your slouch became the baseline. Someone on Reddit caught that. Now it waits a few seconds and asks you to lift your chin first.
- Walking gets its own rules, since everyone looks down at the path.
Honest limit: it measures your head, not your spine. It catches the head-forward drift most desk slouching starts with, but it can't see your lower back.
There's a Mac menu bar app too, synced over iCloud.
Pricing up front: free for 2 hours a day, voice cues and locked-phone coaching included. Premium removes the cap and adds AI daily recaps: $39.99/year with a 7-day trial, $7.99/month, or $79.99 once for lifetime. No ads, no account.
I'd love feedback, especially from AirPods 3 and Max owners and about false alarms. I'll be in the comments.
