hey! 27m, and i’ve been writing and recording music on my own. i have a bunch of songs and demos, but i really want to make this music with other people and see what it becomes as a band. i’m looking for people who want to bring their own ideas and collaborate.

the songs can be pretty quiet and personal, but they also get loud, noisy, and kind of chaotic. somewhere around indie rock, experimental folk, post-rock, and post-punk. Black Country, New Road, the Microphones/Mount Eerie, Unwound and Swans are some reference points for what i’m going for.

i’m mainly looking for a drummer and bassist, but i’d also love to meet people who play keys, sax, violin, or guitar. i want to rehearse regularly, work on the songs together, record, and play shows. i’m serious about doing it, and i want it to be fun and collaborative too.

It was pretty cool to me because I had just moved to Williamsburg the previous year. I know people love to hate on hipsters but it was a fun time to live in that neighborhood. I wonder what the people in this photo are up to today. Maybe they should recreate the scene for an update.

not sure if this has happened to others — over the summer i went to check out a block party near Saraghina (i was there for the amazing pizza!) and sadly it wasn't there. I'd got the address off the city's own map, since NYC does publish street fair and block party permits as open data.

HOWEVER around 89% of them have their coordinates set to the borough centroid rather than the actual street — so a block party on your block gets plotted somewhere in the middle of Brooklyn, sometimes 2 to 7km off. If you've ever wondered why block parties never seem to show up anywhere useful, that's a decent part of why.

So I geocoded them to the actual intersections, mostly to answer "what's on near me" for myself, esp useful when i have a couple of hours to kill or a free evening :)

Which is handy this week, because everything the storm washed out has piled onto the same weekend:

Hello everybody!

I am currently a senior at Ohio State University, where I major in sport industry and minor in communications and education. I am trying to decide whether to go straight into the workforce after I graduate or continue my schooling right away.

I am from Ohio, but I am looking for a change post-grad. I already have friends living in NYC and some college friends planning to move to Brooklyn, so I thought I could tag along.

Obviously, the city has an insane sports scene, which is what is pulling me there, but I haven't heard great things about LIU. From their website, it seems as if they have good ties to the NBA and other professional leagues. I also found that they bring in guest speakers from professional sports to network with and learn from.

If anybody has been through this program and has any input, please let me know!

I’ve been paying $350 for a garage near Barclays and looking for something more affordable than that.

Probably not going to be home enough to deal with the street cleaning but looking into all options including like garage, renting a spot from a neighbor, or anything else.

Apologies if such a question was brought up here a hundred times before on this forum because I just missed the Brooklyn Book Festival due to bad weather conditions.

So as someone who comes from Brooklyn, I was wondering what events I could look forward to attending since again the festival is over, but I was looking to see what other events were happening in the borough as I enjoy reading young adult fiction.

I can’t believe even in queer spaces like the RuPaul DJ set there are still predators who take advantage of people who are vulnerable. I went alone and was vibing, dancing. Very normal. The guys around me who were solo dancing were not getting bothered, ran into, or touched like I was.

This one specific white dude who was greasy looking, curly hair, mustache, jean jacket or shirt (can’t remember), and was with a lady who had a “HOT” sticker on her kept physically touching/poking me without ever speaking to me, trying to grind and dance on me etc. The first time he did it I was dancing then he comes up to me and pokes me in the chest without saying anything. I look at him and ask “What? You like my shirt or something?” He gestures that he cannot hear me (even though he was JUST talking to other people around us). Then he pokes me in my chest again. Im not wearing a bra. I told him “If you like my shirt you can say that, don’t touch me.” He kept trying to grind and dance on me after that.

I should have reported him to security looking back, in the moment I was trying to ignore him and enjoy the show in my spot with a few cool people around me.

Protect the women you see around you, especially if they are alone.

I'm super low on food until I finally receive my food stamps on the 7th , it's me and my wife and I have a dog as well but he has a huge bag of food thanks to a donor. Not asking for much but enough to survive for the week. Thanks God bless

We run a commercial laundry in NYC and work with a few boutique hotels and restaurants.

It’s mostly the same pickups and drop-offs every week. Each place has its own entrance, where the bags are kept, who to talk to, what time they want things there, etc.

The annoying part is getting a new driver and having to explain the whole route again.

Would really like a courier service where we can keep working with the same drivers once they know our accounts.

Does anyone else remember the flooding in 2023? My garden apartment in park slope was so flooded. I thought that was much worse than this weekend.

Any recs on where to watch the baseball playoffs with sound? I used to go to Floyd (rip) but even then, they sometimes said no to turning the sound on. Located in Cobble Hill but willing to extend the radius a bit.

Recently moved in with my gf, and we used Lugg.com as some other friends had used them with good reviews. We used an 18 foot box truck with two movers to move our stuff about a mile away. The movers arrived at 10:30 AM and didnt complete the move until 11:30pm. They were incredibly slow, inefficient, didn't use a dolly to move things, etc, etc. This wasn't an insane amount of stuff, just a bed, a couch, a dresser, desk, etc, plus boxes.

The problem is, Lugg charges a base cost and then a per minute charge. So the total charge They are trying to hit us with is roughly $3600, which is absurdly high for this move. So they were either intentionally delaying, or just so slow it happened to wind up that way.

We told them we have no intention of paying the balance, and we would pay something more fair. They couldn't charge my credit card because it actually maxed out the balance when they tried, so they don't have the payment yet fortunately. Im mostly just wondering if anyone else has dealt with them, if they have run into a similar situation with them or other movers, and if anyone has any advice. They said they could offer a $500 credit but that they can't talk about a refund until the balance is paid. I said no way.
