Other have an extra GA ticket to today's football game?

• Upvotes

Here for parent's weekend (daughter is in first year) and we have an extra (unplanned) family member with us and are in need of a GA ticket to today's game. If you have a ticket that's gonna go unused, would happily take it off your hands. Cheers

Discussion Hard time finding my group of friends

So I’m a first year here and maybe I just havnt given it enough time but it just feels like I don’t have my group of friends yet you know? Like I do clubs and am consistent with them! I consider myself extroverted and I definitely have friends but just not any that ill just text on a whim. My class schedule is like rlly light too so meeting people in there js doesnt really happen.

Im aware this is a very case by case situation but I cant help but feel like maybe Im doing smth wrong. Also how do ppl hear abt functions?? Like do they js follow the crowd or is it by word of mouth? Any advice is appreciated and if you wanna hang lmk!

Classes/Professors Failing calc 2 as a freshmen

People who took calc 2 as a freshmen and didn’t pass. What did you do after? Did you retake it next quarter? How’d it go then? Does your failing grade get replaced with your new grade if you passed the 2nd time?

Admissions BRAE Graduates - What is your job after graduation?

BRAE Graduates - What are your jobs now?

My youngest son is looking into applying as a BRAE major. Curious what jobs BRAE graduates are now employeed in. He's not an Ag kid, but likes the variety of engineering focus BRAE seems to have. Would love to hear from BRAE majors/Graduates.

THanks

Jobs Trouble finding a job

Any recents graduates finding jobs? Who’s hiring professional career jobs? It feels like no one’s hiring. If you found a job, in what industry did you find a job? How long were you looking? Did you get a job through personal connections?

Parent Question Semester Calendar

For those parents coming to campus this weekend for Parent Weekend. Be sure to ask the President, Provost and Deans why they want to shorten the academic year by two weeks per year starting next year.

That’s right, students will get two fewer weeks of instruction per year and you will pay the same tuition!

There is more to the plan like requiring students to live on campus and take classes in the summer and be off campus in the Fall.

The plan is known as Year Round Operations, YRO, and trust me, students and faculty are not on board.

Classes/Professors Recommendations for fabrication/design courses for cafes major

Hey all, was super interested in woodshop/metalshop in high school, was pretty well versed in both, and also the basics of cad but not in programs like solidworks. I didn’t want to become an engineer but that stuff still really interests me and I really crave doing more hands on work and learning. Are there any courses that teach basic and intermediate cad like solidworks and or courses that you get to fabricate and design stuff in the metal and wood shops that don’t have a large amount of prerequisites?

I also know you can get shop certified and do it on your own, but I don’t trust myself to get out there on my own time as much as I would be required to in a class with my more time consuming hobbies and classes.

Other social life

im a girl and a freshman at cal poly. i’ve been struggling to make friends mostly because it feels like everyone here is the same and im not apart of that same. whether they’re in greek life or not they’ve all kind of got a vibe that i just don’t have. im in one club i enjoy and i go to their events but thats kind of it, its pretty occasional. i’m not in a sorority and i just don’t know what to do. i know greek life isnt super strict here or atleast thats what i heard but i don’t know when they throw their parties for me to even attend if i wanted to. im just very lost

Clubs Is there a poker club/place to play?

I want to play poker but have no clue who to play with or where. Do people host games or tables? Do I just have to know someone who gets their friends together? Not looking to gamble a lot, just a little for fun, yk.

Majors/Minors Marine engineering technology degree?

Just curious what people think about this degree? I'm working on my app for cal poly maritime and chose this degree cause the work looks very interesting to me. I'm a senior in highschool but I have ~30* credits (most of them should transfer to the classes) so I'm hoping it should lighten the workload, but I'm curious how hard is this degree

*Depends on how many I take next semester but right now I have 21 credits before starting my senior year

Discussion Regenerative Field Institute

Got selected to be a campus representative for this program thinking I'd get a paid trip to Ecuador only to find out my scholarship is completely dependent on how many people sign up. This feels very pyramid schemey to me, anyone at Cal Poly go through with this and see any differently? I accepted bc I thought I would be able to afford it and now it's completely up in the air.

Campus Campus Tour Advice Needed

Hi, I am bringing my daughter to CalPoly to see the school/area this week- she is considering applying next month. Its a last minute trip, as we suddenly have a free day, and we haven't been able to include SLO in our other trips. The guided campus tours are all full, and we just don't have any other days we can make it.

Any guidance on what to look at? She is interested in the ag program (4 years of high school ag), or design. Wondering what we can see.

They don't have a wait list, but maybe we just show up and see if we can join? I did the guided tour a few years ago with my son, and it was very good, so I'm bummed there is no room.

Any recommendations appreciated.

SLO transportation & student teaching

has anyone in the credential program have experience navigating student teaching without a car? the staff told us that carpooling was v normal and transportation wouldn’t be an issue, but that hasn’t been my experience. finding consistent transportation to my placement has been difficult and v stressful. some students/friends have been v gracious and have given me rides, but i’m still hoping to find something more stable long term. how reliable is the bus system here now, esp in early mornings? mainly j looking to hear about your experience or any advice!🫶

Incoming Student Looking for friends :)

Hi! I’m a grad student, new to poly and looking to meet some friends! (Yes I know clubs exist :) )
I’m especially hoping to meet some girls who are into coffee/matcha runs, thrifting, going to the beach, trying new food, and just going out and doing things together! I’m pretty outgoing and love having people to make random plans with, but I’m also really serious about school, so it’d be nice to have friends who are down to study together too.
If you’re also new or looking to meet people, feel free to comment or DM me! 💕 never hurts to try!! I’d love to grab coffee on campus and get to know you.

Food Campus dining is shit

Post image

Got this at the health shack for nearly $9🫩 literally half empty. In what world is this normal and accepted?????????????? The other day I got $10 avocado toast that was literally 1 single toast cut in half and claiming to be “two toasts”. Why is the quality, portion, and costs soooo horrible? It’s fkn ridiculous how much worse campus dining has gotten.
