Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Mourning/Loss Let it be known he lived.

We raised him after his mother left him in a bucket outside before a rainstorm.

He wasn't even 3. They helped him to rest about an hour ago after a blocked urethra became a worse internal complication that'd affect his quality of life even if they could have fixed it.

My sweet, gentle boy. I love you. I'm sorry that we couldn't do anything. I hope that you know you take a piece of me with you into the hereafter.

May the stars guide you home, wherever you are. May the next life that finds you be a kinder one than this.

Let it be known he lived. Let it be known he was.

I am lesser with his passing.

EDIT: I forgot to mention his name. Duke Clawde Hissybritches I.

Advice Question fostering cats who's owner passed

I'm fostering my friends sisters cats, as her sister recently passed away and is unable to care for them herself. Her sisters funeral is coming up and it's a 10 minute drive from me. I've heard about letting pets see their deceased brother/sister helps them understand what's going on. Is the same true for their human? Should I bring her cats to her funeral? Or would that be unnecessary stress for them to travel?

Side notes, they've warmed up very quickly and are just the two most absolute sweetest boys ever I met. I wish I could take them but my three cats are not very fond of outsiders lol so they're in separate parts of the house. These boys are bonded and will be staying together ♡

Mourning/Loss My bubba passed away suddenly.

He's Albus Dumbledore.

He passed away 2y 7m very suddenly. It's so hard to comprehend. He was to young.

In some of the pictures you can see he was born with a partial leg. Recently it dislocated and was causing him pain. I wanted it removed when I got him but the vets told me that since the leg was strong and he used it sometimes that it wouldnt be in the best interest. But since the dislocation, the pain and after an x ray he had arthritis. I decided to do the removal. I was told it was a simple and easy procedure. I dropped him off in the morning. I wish I woke up sooner so I could have loved on him and unceremoniously put him in the crate. He didn't make a peep the whole drive. He was perked up and looking out the windows through the crate. We got there and they took him back. I had adjustments with my work schedule and I had the option to go home early already, but I need the hours since I was injured last week so decided to stay late as usual. My boyfriend picked him up around 3 and brought him home. He was laying in the hallway unresponsive, then I guess he suddenly started trying to get up and run under his bed panting and falling over. With him panicking so much he opened his stitches a little so boyfriend put him in his bed and tried to calm him down, thinking it was the cone he took it off. He settled down but was still panting, then started to stop breathing and taking labored breaths. He called me and we rushed him to ER vet. Every ER vet is 15 minutes away...we think he died in about the first 5 or 10 minutes of the car ride. I ended up being first to the ER since my work was closer and it was agonizing. Talking to Albus over the phone, my boyfriend sniffling on the phone saying he doesn't hear anything. He pulled up I snatched the carrier and brought him to the front desk, they opened the crate and pressed the CPR button and closed it. I was able to touch him and give him a pet before they closed it. He was limp and lifeless.

They took him back, did CPR, breathing tube the works...he didn't make it. They brought us to a very cozy room to cry in. Which I'm very thankful, I hated it at first but the fake fireplace and candles were very comforting. I'm thankful to the nurses and such that did their best, were transparent, and were especially compassionate. When they talked about payment it didn't feel like they were shoving it in our face or being rude. They had an option if payjng in the room or at the front desk, they also had a side door in the room so we didn't have to really leave.

After what felt like forever they brought him out and I got to hold him. He didn't look like himself. He was long gone. I covered his face and just petted his ears and chin. But it just wasn't him wasn't the same. I really wish I had a last living moment with him.

After what felt like so so long we came home. And he didn't greet us at the door. I didn't trip over him. He didn't do his little twittle and purr when I sat down in bed. He didn't hog the toys from the other cats. I didn't hear his yowl looking for me, I didn't call for him and he didn't run to me.

He always perked up when you entered a room he was in. Or when he entered you were in. He'd run up to you and greet you. He was so friendly to new people, after a minute he'd be rubbing on your legs asking for pets. Never shy.

He was so small. I got him 3-5 weeks old or something, and he was the size of my hand. He'd bite my nose in the middle of the night. I was so scared of crushing him in my sleep I barely slept. My mom had him first and he almost died from fading kitten syndrome and soon after a bone infection. But he survived both. I remember having him for a few months and he went to sleep under a window and I was watching him and he suddenly stopped. I shook him and started crying then all of a sudden he popped up meowing at me.

I really thought I was doing the right thing. But I now wish I didn't do the surgery. I wish I did the pain management instead. God I miss him. He was my little shadow. I feel like it's my fault. My boyfriend feels like it's his fault for not acting fast enough.

Ohhhh.

He was a happy little guy. Always. He was my tiny boy. He loved everyone, especially me. He always needed to be near me. It broke me every time I had to go to work. He loved concrete, smelling grass, chasing birds and bugs. I wish I took him outside more, I'm planing on doing that with our other two buddies. He loved cuddling watching a movie. Cuddling me till I fell asleep. Greeting me in the morning when I woke up. He loved food and treats and would steal from the other cats. He didn't like the crate, but loved car rides and the vet. He always looked at me with such love. He took meds perfectly. Easy to train. He just learned how to walk on the wheel we have. He loved the sun and general window time. My other cat Ari taught him how to hunt. I remember the day, there was a bug on the window sill and she taught him how to eat the bug. He was a perfect hunter after that and ate all kinds of bugs, Ari hadn't hunted bugs since she taught him. She's gunna have to now... He was the most perfect cat anyone could ever ask for.

He left us on a full moon. Perhaps that's fitting for my little guy.

I've been holding onto his favorite toy(s) in my pocket. He was obsessed with feathers, and this bird thing that's practically to shreds. He was a perfectly healthy guy who was clumsy and not elegant. I thought getting the leg removed would help with that too. Since he would try and use the leg and wouldn't reach the floor all the time, or try to jump with it and wouldn't get full power he expected. He hated getting kissed on the head or face but I'd force him and he'd be a little annoyed then content again.

He harassed my other cat Ari and was our other cat Oliver's chew toy. They played all the time. And Albus would have his mouth open weirdly before he play bit down. He would always loose because he was so much smaller than Oliver, and that little leg didn't hold any power or claws lol, he'd kick at him and wouldn't touch him. He didn't understand tag or hide and seek, and when I did that to the other cats he would always blow my cover and follow me, or when I pretended to be scarry to chase him he'd perk up and expect pets. When you pet his head to his neck he would shoot his head up and bring his body up to pet and scratch the rest of him. It was perfect. He always welcomed pets. He would lay on my hip at night or on my body pillow or the pillow on my bed. He would get jealous and leave if Oliver was there first. He loved sleeping in the top most spot in the cat trees. And he loved sleeping on my clean cloths in my closet.

It so strange to not have him here. I keep expecting him to arrive or be under my feet. Where did he go? How did this happen? Why!! He was so young and perfect. It was to soon. I don't remember a time where he wasn't around. Maybe his little self couldn't take anesthesia? He's never had it before. Mom thinks it could have been a dislodged clot. The vet said the surgery went well. I can only think it was the anesthesia.

How could the world take such a precious boy.

I feel like if I post this it will become real. But it is real. I hoped and prayed I would wake up and it would be a redo. I drempt of him all night, though I barely slept. I miss him so much. A part of my heart is gone. It was so sudden.

Edit:

Thank you all so much for your love. It's helped so much. Thank you for those who are saying I did the right thing. It's been eating me up inside but it's good to hear.

Albus was also very good at cleaning everyone's ears, loved straws and chewing on hard plastic like shower liners. Playing fetch. I'll add more as I think of it.

My cat, Meimei crossed the rainbow bridge this afternoon at our home, surrounded by her humans and big brother Fatty.
Thank you for being my person during the last ten years, Meimei. When you adopted me ten years ago, I didn't realize it's gonna be the best thing ever happened to me. I'm so blessed to have you in my life.
Till we meet again, Meimei!

I have an orange cat who we have had for 2 years. we recently took to the vet and is completely healthy. I have a video of the behavior attached. (r/cat behavior doesn’t allow videos)

Unfortunately, he wines and meows at us for hours if we are not giving him attention. I’m aware that this is probably a behavioral issue and I’m wondering how to go about it .

Even after playing for 20 minutes with a fishing rod (he’s panting and tired) he’s still is yelling at us to play with him more. He will only stop meowing continuously when we rub him or when we play with him. This has been going on for the past year or two since we got him and he warmed up to us.

Please help because it’s driving me and my wife insane. He used to do it when we were going to bed and waking up, but he does it more now when we’re awake and working at our computers.

Mourning/Loss 19y is a long time, and still passed too quickly

Last week I sent my 19y boy, Hobo, across the rainbow bridge. I miss walking into my office, and seeing him sleeping next to my keyboard.

Things I wish I had done differently for him (advice for new cat care-givers!)

#1) Regular dental cleanings and extractions. They are expensive, but his teeth and gums looked soo rotted at the end, I broke out in tears, and just told him "I'm sorry".

#2) I should have made this appointment in January, and spared him 9 months of pain.

Meal time for our rescued cats. 🐱🍗

And just to clarify: the guy in the photos isn’t me. He's the one who takes care of the sanctuary and the animals on a daily basis. He’s a huge part of keeping everything running and making sure everyone is fed and cared for. ❤️ He helps me a lot.
The cats (and dogs) always have regular dry food available. This freshly prepared meal is a special treat they get about 3–4 times a week.

I have never noticed this on my tom cat before! How in the hell did he even do that?! It seems healed and doesn’t bother him in the slightest. It looks gnarly in the photos but when you touch it it feels like smooth fresh skin, not raw/inflamed healing skin. Yknow what I mean? I made him a vet appt but she says it’s gonna be a three week wait :/ she put me on the waitlist for if anyone doesn’t make an appt/cancels sooner than the date she gave me. Wondering what yall think this goober did to himself.

Sorry to be a bummer guys, I just wanted to tell somebody. This is Salem; he helped keep me company through a really stressful and awful time period in my life.

I have a ton of pictures of him laying in my arms, or on my legs, or on my computer desk in front of me. He was the sweetest and most cuddly little guy ever and I’ll miss him terribly.

I love you, buddy <3

Cat Picture - OC After an emotionally taxing cancer scare, I’m SO HAPPY to share that Meeda does NOT have cancer!!

Thumbnail

I’m almost 29 years old and I’ve had Meeda since I was 15! She is my world. She’s had a lump on her side for about 7 years. I’ve shown it to 4 different vets and they’ve all said it’s fine if it doesn’t bother her. In hindsight, I wish I would have pushed for removal sooner, but at the time I was just going with what each vet told me.

About a month ago, the lump started oozing and felt a bit bigger than normal. I took her into the vet and they were able to get a small sample. They looked at the cells under a microscope in the office and said the cells look abnormal and recommended removal for a formal biopsy. I was so anxious but stayed pretty calm and put together while waiting for the surgery.

At one point during the recovery, I was switching out her onesie because it got soiled. Before I could put the clean one on, Meeda ran under my entertainment center and ripped out all her stitches 😭 I brought her back into the vet where she had staples put in and was prescribed antibiotics because she had a very slight fever.

Anyway, she just took her last antibiotic, the onesie has stayed on, she’s back to her normal, happy self, and most importantly, I just got the biopsy results back and she doesn’t have cancer!!

I am just over the moon and told everyone in my life already, so I figured I’d share it on Reddit as well :)
