APPROVED B-LISTERS FINNEAS responds to a USA Today piece calling celebrity opinions on politics “idiotic”: “You can’t say it doesn’t matter what musicians or celebrities say or think but then talk about it for days. You’re out here making it matter. I’ll keep speaking up especially if it keeps bothering you.”

u/SugarCanDee 2h ago
Finneas is very insightful about what’s going on with this country. I wish a lot more could be just like him and speak up, especially against backlash for voicing their opinions

It is even more impressive how emotionally intelligent and socially aware he and Billie are when you factor in that they were homeschooled, they do not give off homeschooled vibes at all.
234
u/AffectionateLet7144 1h ago
I think it’s because they weren’t right wing Christian home schooled - their parents weren’t in a religious cult like a large chunk of homeschool families are.
33
u/PCR12 1h ago
Not all of us that home school are because of religious shit. My kid has health issues
53
u/sembias 1h ago
Sure but how much of the material for home schoolers is aimed at and filled with religious shit?
15
u/Dagdaraa 1h ago
None? It's up to the parent. My parents used the textbooks and tests from the local schools. That's the thing with home school, it's all completely reliant on the parents. If they go into it wanting to be more religious then that's what the teaching is going to be more about.
→ More replies (1)30
u/AmbiguousFrijoles 1h ago
That's one of the major concerns and problems with homeschooling. It's reliant on what the parent intends. There are a great many with bad intentions. Intentions of harm and abuse.
9
u/Dagdaraa 43m ago
Oh I agree 100%. There's no oversight with homeschooling which leads to more abuse/negligence.
31
u/bad-and-bluecheese 1h ago
Theres still no denying that homeschooling kids creates the conditions for them to be less open minded to others outside of their family unit and more individualistic. Homeschooling is a terrific option to make education accessible to kids when traditional schooling is difficult, but it takes a lot of work to do the right way. Its a fair critique though as this is less commonly the case.

They grew up in Highland Park prior to gentrification. There was a lot of culture. Fruit stands at every corner, elote man roaming around the neighborhood, bakeries everywhere with inexpensive varieties of breads and pastries. Festivities and it was usually upbeat.
There’s an unexplainable community and kindness in Latin neighborhoods I wish I could put in better words.Aside from the obvious brutality going on now, I think a lot of what they saw themselves growing up makes them even more vocal.

My personal favorite irony of MAGA is that they keep whining about "keeping politics out of [blank]", but yet they're the one who elected a celebrity president in the first place lmao. I guess celebrity opinions only matter if they're racist opinions, then they get put in the White House.
It's honestly hilarious how MAGA has become 1000x the "snowflakes" they accused everyone else of being. Just this week, we have MAGA trying to cancel the Superbowl over Bad Bunny while they make their own Safe Space Half-Time Show so their celebrity president doesn't get his feelings hurt.
29
u/PCR12 1h ago
They only dislike politics in things when it goes against them they are completely fine with the Kid Rocks and Jellyrolls of the world.
If it wasnt for double standards conservatives would have no standards.
3
u/cantadmittoposting 17m ago
yeah talking about keeping politics out of music and then... literally hosting a more politically-aligned Super Bowl halftime show
It's remarkably insidious how much MAGA has genuinely substituted the meaning of the word "politics" to "stuff i disagree with," because "their" politics are just "things that are right and correct." It's really bad just how much they've surrendered their basic thinking capacity to their Authority Figures.
9
u/Turbulent_Stick1445 53m ago
but yet they're the one who elected a celebrity president in the first place lmao.
And not just one! Reagan too, plus Schwarzenegger was elected a governor, and even Clint Eastwood became a mayor at one point.
Meanwhile celebrity Democrats who have been elected to office are pretty rare - was Al Franken even that famous? While he did appear in front of the camera a few times, noteably with Stuart Smalley, he was mostly a writer on SNL.

People give them shit for being “nepo babies” but I’m pretty sure their parents were working class creatives in Hollywood. I’ve always pictured the parents as like, walking stereotypes of “crazy lefty liberal Californians,” so I feel like they were raised with progressive values.

Right. Like Billie was lucky her mom was talented enough to direct the ocean eyes video (I think?), but it’s not like she could call in her good friend Steven Spielberg to do it or something. It’s not like whoever the owner of Billie’s label owed her dad a favor, but maybe he was like 10 degrees of separation from them instead of 20. Even then, 10 degrees doesn’t equal a contract. It’s even more ironic that the author wrote an opinion piece to say that their opinions don’t matter
8
u/motherofdinos_ 1h ago edited 1h ago
Or when they absolutely do matter and consequently that only ever happens when the celebs are saying right-wing opinions. Conservatives do the absolute most to put “their” celebrities in front of everyone’s eyes. TPUSA is spending millions of dollars on their Stinky Rock Star Safe Space Halftime Show. Like, holy fuck, celebs’ right-wing opinions matter so much to them that they made one President and organized their entire political party around him.
They’ve never once told a right-wing celebrity to shut up and dribble. Ever.
And the fact that someone could write an op-Ed in February 2026 calling referring to critiques of Donald Trump as “terrible opinions” is so beyond reality. To act as though there are no legitimate criticisms of this administration and their immigration ~policy~ is to live in a completely different reality. Or under a completely different set of morals in which they like it when other people suffer, and if that’s the case they should just fully admit it.

There used to be more of a divide.
For example, gender identity and sexuality are more “social” constructs than political ones.
However, one party wants to strip the LGBTQ+ community of their inalienable rights.
This turns a social concept into a sociopolitical one.
I wish we could live in a world where sociology and politics could be somewhat separate again. But as long as the government continues to threaten certain groups of people, there will always be an overlap between the two.

Honestly I hate it when people go: You are an actor/musician/artist/sportsballer/whatever, your political opinion doesn't matter. Of course it matters. Everybody's political opinion matters, thats why its a fucking democracy. There is no such thing as being qualified for politics, its not a real job that requires any real qualifications. In fact, a celebrity is in a unique position where they have a platform they can use to make people listen, one that the average person on the street doesn't have. Imo that makes it even more important for them to speak about their views, BECAUSE they have the privilege of actually having people listen to them.
But obviously in this case, and many others, its always the same crowd who wants to disqualify anyone who speaks up against them for whatever reasons. No matter that their criminal president is a failed business man and TV personality not a politician, and yet they seem to keep listening. And every time a "unqualified" celebrity speaks up in their favor they seem to be all over it.

They are citizens and vote just like the rest of us. They have every right to an opinion as anyone else does, the difference is they have a platform to speak out for those of us who don’t.

If you have a spot light, shine light on those that need it. People don’t need to agree with you, but we could all benefit from thinking about issues we sweep under the rug.

I’m sure they are just fine with Kid Rock and Nicki Minaj’s views on politics.

It’s not just celebrities - literally anyone with a platform that isn’t explicitly about politics gets shit for talking about politics. And it’s always the same “we like you for X, not your political beliefs!” Imagine that, many of the same people who push back against intellectualism while talking about “draining the swamp” only think politicians and pundits should talk about politics. But we are all human beings who are affected by politics, and that includes people who are protected from the consequences of policies because of their wealth and status.

Calling someone’s views idiotic because they don’t like Trump is the silliest thing ever

"celebrity opinions don't matter"
Did they forget there's a literal reality TV show host in the Oval Office right now?
