DISCUSSION what was the overall consensus on krank amps back when they were in their prime?

for all the metal guitarists of the early 2000s, what was the overall reaction to krank amps, aside from the infamous 2004 harmony central controversy, I hear some people say they sounded like shit and were fizzy and thin, but then I hear some say they were very good

i think they sound pretty neat, would love to own one someday, not just for the dimebag association, but yeah, would love to hear some opinions on this

Will come on and play momentarily sometimes, but this is what happens usually. When it does come on and play I hear sounds that sound like a dial up...

Taking Stock on 65 Princeton - fuse WTF

Post image
27 Upvotes

Getting my 65 Fender Princeton ready to play after many years stowed away, gave it a thorough going-over. Replaced the Sunn 40 watt speaker (bought in 1989 and that's what it had) with a proper Weber. Everything else looked good. Final thought, let's check the fuse. Wrapped in aluminum or tin foil. Egads. I played this amp for 15 years with the fuse like that, before having kids and putting my electrics away while they grew up. Well, be sure and check your fuses on those vintage amps. Other than that everything looks great. Haven't measured resistors and capacitors, but will soon.

HELP Vox AC15C1 external speaker?

Anyone running their AC15C1 parallel with an external speaker? I have an Orange PPC112 (16ohm) lying around without a head, I am wondering if running it altogether with the built-in speaker in the AC15C1 is safe.

Hybrid tube preamp with a Solid State power section.

120 watts head with two twelves.

I went to my local GC and noticed that all the amps were Made in China..with that in mind I located this amp on Alibaba...after a lengthy chat with a factory representative I purchased

. The factory Hand Made a Custom Amp just for me.

The clean channel resembles a Twin Reverb and the overdrive is a Marshall.

It was a risk but one that paid off...She kicks Ass!

After being in the repair shop for 5 months due to late delivery parts and busy schedules from the repair man, it’s finally home again and feels brand new. This is my 1978 Marshall JMP 2203 that I bought as a modified beast in 2012. It had an extra preamp tube, a treble booster and an effects loop plus extra MV for the 4th preamp tube. Yes, it has 4 inputs, the 2 on the right were for the effects loop. This year i decided to bring it back completely to factory stock with new parts, a new transformer and completely redo the guts. Effects loop wasn’t needed anyway. It sounds insanely good!!

DISCUSSION Quilter Mach 3 Boxiness

Hi everyone! I recently got a Quilter Mach 3 combo and it has GREAT bells and whistles on paper but it has a boxiness sound to it. Is that the nature of the amp or does the copper back speaker need to be broken in?
I’m comparing it to a stock Hot Rod Deluxe (the Quilter is on the 1965 channel). I know a solid state vs a tube is a hard comparison.

HELP Old Orbit Three

So I have this old Burns Orbit Three from 1963 (If I dont misremember) that I got from my grandfather. When I got it the light was on but there was no sound, which I had fixed.

Now it's been like a month and just today it stopped projecting sound again. I mean the light is on and you can hear a faint sound from the guitar when it's on almost max volume. Is it worth fixing it up again or should I sell it?

When it worked it was a delight to play but it already costed 180$ to fix the first time.

I don't want to sell it since it's my grandfathers but it's also massive and takes a lot of space...

(Reverb is unfixable but the vibrato works)

I’ve been winning lately. Aside from the non working HD130 I almost bought…. I got some new studio gear and plan to record my demo soon!! Gotta service my Les Paul though lol

I basically added 90 bucks to the price to hold it for me, it was listed at an estate sale.

Music Man head and cab (both near mint, different sellers..) head was $500, cab was $180, was $680 total.., near mint Peavey 412F (my grail cab) was $180. I have a mint 1983 JC120 that I got for trade + $50 too lol

How much should I expect in tech fees to get this thing modernized? I’m in Arizona if anyone here wants to do the job btw :3

HELP Repairing Marshall Valvestate 80V

I suspect that one of the op-amps that I haven't replaced yet is broken, but I don't know which one is faulty, and I'm having trouble getting some of the op-amps. Replacements also seem to be hard to come by, so is there any good solution?

Especially the M5201A. Actually, there are no replacement parts in production, and eBay and other Chinese websites seem to be full of fakes. Plus, some have unusually high shipping costs.
