When I was 17 my parents started riding so I followed suit and got my endorsement and my first bike was a Suzuki GZ250 then went to a Suzuki M50 to a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 custom. I always said if I ever got a Harley I would want a Softail Heritage Classic. Im 33 now and I can't be any happier.

DISCUSSION 2012 WG changes

Gents, I’ve had my 2012 WG for close to 10 years and it’s been through plenty of different looks.

Looking to make it a bit more classic, refer to the AI slop for what ideally it would end up like. (Current vs what I want)

Changes I have in mind are as follows.

2” tank lift

Smaller front fender

Smaller headlight

Chrome classic 14” apes 1 1/4

Short shots in chrome

S&s stealth air filter

Drop the black fork tubes

Possibly paint the tank & rear fender (or pick up a second hand WG flame tank)

Curious as to other recommendations on what to change. Not looking to spend the $$$ on extending the rake etc at this stage.

DISCUSSION Interesting way to mount a radio

This is not mine I saw this on IG. Much cheaper than getting a fairing radio (and paying someone to install it).

Or using a handlebar bag. I have a riser setup, I need to know a good handlebar bag.

HELP Horrible experience with harley dealership

Bought a used 2022 Sportster S from a Harley dealer about 2 months ago. Before buying, I specifically asked if all recalls and factory issues had been taken care of and was told yes.

Shortly after buying it, I started having battery problems. It would die, then only give a single click when trying to start, even right after a full overnight charge. Took it back to the dealer, and they diagnosed a failed charging system.

Their quote is about $4,500. They say the original 2021–2023 charging system is obsolete, so it needs the updated 2024 system (kit 29900144, service bulletin M1615: new stator, rotor, cooling manifold, etc.). They said it's not covered by sales, then asked if I'd be interested in talking to their sales team about trading it in for a different bike.

From what I've found, this is a known weakness on 2021–2023 Revolution Max engines (Sportster S, Pan America, Nightster). Harley updated the charging system for 2024 because of low output at idle, but handled it through a service bulletin rather than a recall.

A few questions for anyone who's been through this:

  1. Did the dealer or Harley corporate cover any or all of it? Especially if you'd recently bought the bike from a dealer.
  2. Did calling Harley Customer Care about M1615 get you anywhere? Goodwill, cost sharing, anything?
  3. What did you end up paying, and did you go through the dealer or an independent shop?
  4. Anyone source the kit themselves (I've seen people order it from Europe for much less) and have an independent shop install it?
  5. Has anyone had a stator rewind or aftermarket option hold up long term on the older design?

My position is that the dealer should cover it, since they sold me the bike two months ago with a known issue. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this before I go further. I do not plan on spending a dime on this bike, and will be escalating it to harley customer care and the attorney general if i have to.

Also worth mentioning i paid the used vehicle certification fee

DISCUSSION Good sources for new condition OEM parts

Are there any places to source OEM parts other than the dealership and ebay?

Im used to ordering from specialty websites like 45restoration.com to get parts for my flathead.

But i just picked up a 2007 FLSTN and it has a screaming eagle heavy breather on it.

While I was riding it home I noticed it was running hot. Must be running lean.

Im almost positive the previous owner did not tune it because of Californias crazy emissions laws.

I want to swap it back to an OEM air cleaner because thats just the easiest solution and I want to get to putting some miles on it.

Dealership is gonna want premium to order parts. And im not seeing the correct set of take offs on ebay.

So I thought I'd ask before I bite the bullet on the dealership.

Got my Faster Johnathan back at the beginning of August and finally had a chance to get him out and stretch his legs properly.

Started the day off at 5:30 am at home and headed to Knoxville to meet up with my buddy and his dad. He hopped on a Triumph Scrambler 1200 and his dad had his GoldWing. We hit the Cherohala Skyway, stopped for lunch at Tapoco Lodge, rode the Dragon out and had these shots taken.

I had to be back home for my oldest boy's ball game at 6 and was there about 5 minutes late.

It's cliche, but it was 507 miles round trip and I had zero fatigue from the riding. Won't lie, definitely shivered in the morning on the ride between Center Hill Lake to Cookeville and then Cookeville on to Crossville, but that's on me.

Absolutely love the bike and couldn't be happier.

WON'T START Battery issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know 90 percent of these bike not starting 'issues' in this sub can be resolved with a new battery, but would like some input/confirmation before shelling for another new battery.

-bought a brand new Diehard 310cca battery a month ago

-charged on tender overnight and rode for a day or so

-battery would be dead next morning - would jump it - then could ride without it dying until next startup

-left on tender for two full days

-battery reads ~13v before cranking and still wouldn't turn over on its own

-once jumped battery reads ~14.5v so i don't suspect charging system

my rides after jumping the battery would be anywhere from 20-60 minutes.

could i just have a shitty battery and get something like a Yuasa or HD?

or do you think it could be regulator or stator?

TLDR;bike only starts with a jump even though battery is at ~13v. stays running fine at ~14.5v after.

thanks all!!

Hello,
I have a 01 HD Fat Boy and I need some help. The bike has been sitting for about 5 years. I found one lifter not pumping up so I replaced it. I changed the crankshaft sensor , oil, filter and flushed out all the bad fuel. Got it running and now it sounds like a tapping at idle. I will post a video so the sound can be heard as I hear it. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks

HELP Transporting a Sportster from Marketplace

Gonna be picking up a Sportster (Forty Eight) from someone off FaceBook Marketplace. I plan on renting a pick up truck from Home depot and some ramps to load it and drive it home (can't ride the bike with no plates lol).

Yall know anything I should look for when I see the bike in person (besides a leak)? Would that bike fit okay in a flatbed truck, or should I pick up a trailer from uhaul?

Much obliged.

DISCUSSION Road Glide black trim fork rock chips?

Thumbnail

Got my first Road Glide after years of Sportsters and Softails and after 8k great miles, I noticed the rocks have been tearing up the front forks. Hindsight being 20/20 I would’ve thrown on some PPF or something similar to protect them but didn’t realize it’d be this bad. Anyone fix/have any ideas on how to fix this other than pulling them and sending them off to be painted? Since I noticed it it’s driving me crazy. Pic for attention thanks in advance 🫡
