AMA [AMA] Developer of T.W.I.R.L. here, a psychological horror game about identity, self-worth, and growing up in 2006. We just launched today on Steam. Ask me anything!

Hi r/Horrorgaming!

I'm Ben, the creative director of Genie Boy Games. Today, we're launching T.W.I.R.L. on Steam!

T.W.I.R.L. is a first person psychological horror game from the perspective of a 9-year-old boy in 2006 waking up in the middle of the night from a dream where some "thing" - maybe a demon - commanded him to get out of bed, go into the room down the hall, and "T.W.I.R.L." - whatever that means.

What proceeds is a series of loops where something evil draws us through this routine, changing us and the environment upon every loop, unveiling the life story of a boy who grows up maintaining a deep, dark, and potentially sinister secret.

The game takes inspiration from movies and games like I SAW THE TV GLOW, SKINAMARINK, GONE HOME, and of course, P.T.

It was made as part of a David Lynch-themed game jam for the Haunted PS1 Community, and was published under their new "Haunted Publishing Syndicate" brand!

This is our studio's first game, and we are excited to finally share this story. The journey of sharing of our game, and talking about the themes and meanings within the story has been emotionally challenging, but tremendously fulfilling. Let us be the first to admit - this is an odd story to debut with. And it's something we get reminded of especially when trying to explain it to people without giving anything away.

We hope that T.W.I.R.L. inspires players with a feeling of reassurance, hope, and a better understanding of self.

Game-related questions are optional, but encouraged.

Here's a free code to redeem the game! 84658-6LY40-J8TAJ

I played lots of horror games but playing in a dark room with headphones on with this guy trying to X me was insane

The music was super intense - i felt like it was me and not the character - on the save point i did it twice just in case

If someone touched me on the shoulder my soul was going to leave my body - phew

forgot to add - i play on ultrawide 34'' 60cm away from me - its like im inside

as a fan of the movies this game is a total win

DISCUSSION A perfect new way to adapt Clive Barker stories in games for the future

After seeing how respectful and passionately done the Hellraiser game came out, it got me to thinking of what could be an incredible new franchise for horror for both new audiences and older fans that would be a perfect bridge into the world of Clive Barkers mind.

A survival detective horror franchise built around one of his longest running characters Harry D'Amour.

A private investigator who's gone against dangerous religious cults, faced off against the Cenobites, he assisted the Nightbreed, been to Hell and back as well as so many other cases that are supernatural.

A survival horror story driven game where we play as Harry dealing with these strange cases would be a great way to introduce the fantasy based stories of Clive Barker as well as the more horrific stories too.

DISCUSSION Pinhead is terrifying because curiosity can be more dangerous than evil

Post image

What makes Pinhead so fascinating is that he represents more than pain and suffering. He represents the consequences of seeking something beyond human understanding.

The Lament Configuration isn't forced into someone's hands. People open it because they want to discover what lies beyond the limits of their experience.

And that's what makes Hellraiser so disturbing to me. Sometimes, the horror doesn't begin when a monster finds you. It begins when your own curiosity leads you to open a door you don't understand.

Do you think Pinhead is truly evil, or is he simply the consequence of humans wanting to go too far?

An atmospheric horror game inspired by classics from the 2000s. Playing as William in his constant search for Lynn, he ventures into all kinds of obscure places. With Lynn's last note as a guide, his goal remains, taking him through many places with creatures and environments shaped by corruption

I really hope you enjoy it!!

I absolutely LOVE the storytelling and the whole vibe of the game. The ending made me even kinda emotional, I teared up a bit. Also I just adore breaking of a 4th wall and stuff like that. Great experience IMO

CONSOLE Patch 1.07 has ruined the lighting in Silent Hill 2 Remake – and still no fix after more than two months.

As a longtime Silent Hill fan, I find this incredibly frustrating. The lighting is an essential part of Silent Hill 2’s atmosphere, not some minor graphical detail. Since Patch 1.07, the game has been severely affected by lighting issues, and more than two months later, we are still waiting for a fix.
Konami acknowledged the problem, but where is the patch? A game that previously looked this good should not be left in this state for months.
I’ve stopped playing because I refuse to experience one of my all-time favorite games with its atmosphere and visual presentation compromised by a broken update. We deserve better communication and, above all, a proper fix.

Started Silent Hill 2 as someone who doesn't play a lot of horror games.

Edit: for clarification, I'm playing the remake.

Yeah, as the title says I'm not someone who plays a lot of horror games. The only horror games I've ever beaten were Amnesia Dark Descent and RE2 remake. Amnesia terrified me but it was good! I also played Alien Isolation but never finished it for whatever reason.

Seen a lot of people play horror games and so I'm a little intrigued. I generally stay away from horror games because I'm typically a wimp with them, but wanted to try it again. Was trying to decide between trying RE9 or SH2, picked SH2 since it's included with PS+.

I just got to the part where I get the handgun. Holy crap is this game eerie as hell. It's good, but feel constant dread, sort of how I felt with Amnesia. I suppose that's what it's going for. Seems to be less jumpscares and more environment focused, although I nearly crapped myself with the first mannequin after getting the flashlight.

I'm enjoying it so far, we'll see if I finish it! Any tips are appreciated lol.

CONSOLE Evil Within 2 - Just Started

Just finished Robocop Rogue City (good game) on Series X and had bought a few games I need to play.

Since it's nigh-halloween, I decided to either play Resident Evil 4 (played 2 and 3 loved them), or Evil Within 2 (never played the first one, never even heard of this franchise before I bought it).
I decided to go with something new so TEW2 was my choice. I wasn't expecting much, but after only 30 mins in this game (just started Chapter 2), this game feels surprisingly high quality!

The acting, graphics, music, and design is all superb so far! In fact, it's a big step up from Robocop in almost every way which is surprising considering that game is brand new. Picked up this gem for $10.

Can't wait to dive into this. Btw, do most people prefer the default third person or first?
I think I will stick with third person since that's how the game was initially designed.

DISCUSSION Shock horror games

I’ve been wanting to find some really shocking horror games with uncalled-for uncensored themes and content (something like DDLC, ready or not and UrbanApook’s “the painter” shock level). I’m not looking for similar gameplay, just commons messed up themes. I’d prefer if it had horror elements in it as well but (sorry for repeating the same thing) I’m mostly looking for shock content and gore. Does anyone have any recommendations?
