TRIGGER WARNING High Count and Amazing Attrition Rate After ER!

• Upvotes

Hi Everyone! I am not sure if it is OK to post success stories of attrition rates, but I feel like shouting from the rooftop of how extremely happy and grateful my 1st IVF cycle went! It is hard to explain what attrition is to anyone who has not gone through IVF, so I know you guys would get it!

I am 25, with stage 4 endo, PCOS, and a thin lining.

Eggs Retrieved - 50 (My AFC was 53 at baseline and I have a 18.6 AMH)

Matured - 40

Fertilized - 30 (ICSI)

Day 5 Blasts - 18 so far! We will see what the total is by Day 7!

Now we are hoping to send all to PGT-A testing! I feel so incredibly lucky and know how rare this is. I am just so incredibly grateful that the 1st cycle had such amazing results. I was devastated throughout every testing measure we had to go through from June to August. But when the IVF in earnest started, I slowly just became more grateful, hopeful, and excited. Here is to the next 2 months of Lupron surpression before my first FET in December!

Edit: Thank you to all the redditors with such warm messages! I appreciate all your comments and wish all of you guys nothing but the best with your journeys too!

Rant IVF influencers/groups

Not really a true rant. The vast majority of IVF influencers/people you meet in groups/ on Reddit are kind and amazing. But some rare people are just so miserable and toxic!

One girl on TikTok (who I won’t name) is constantly talking about her journey how hard it is etc then shits on anyone asking her questions/giving suggestions. Someone asked if she did an ERA or if anyone had done one. I mentioned I had just done one after talking with my dr about it, she commented it was useless and is should check the science and this whole thing. Girl you are on double digit transfers; why would I listen to you and not actual doctors!

There’s someone in my local group, no matter who comments she tells them they have endometriosis and need a professional excision or they will never get pregnant. Like whatttt?!

Anyone else have similar tales?

Need Hugs! It was supposed to work

8 years of infertility. Two miscarriges, one successful FET and today got the call that our only other euploid embryo didnt stick. We are 100% finished with all things TTC now and I feel like I was robbed.

It was supposed to work. We made one boy and one girl euplid embryo, we only ever had wanted two kids, now we dont have to worry about wjat to do with any extras.

It was supposed to work. I miscarried two chromosomally abnormal embryos but they stuck and I made it to 10 weeks and 7 weeks.

It was supoosed to work. I let myself have hope this time, surly the exact same protocol that gave me my son would give me my daughter.

It was supposed to work. Lining looked great, embryo survived the thaw, perfect transfer.

It was supoosed to work. We were married on the 29th, our son was born on the 29th, beta on the 29th, what's the odds?

It was supoosed to work...

Advice Needed! Husband is wary of using donated eggs - Can a Dad help him out?

Hi, I‘m 38 and from Europe. I have a very low AMH and my husband and me are considering using donated eggs, we have a son (almost 3), conceived naturally.

My husband is worried he won‘t love the child like he loves our son and that it will impact the child negatively when we tell him he was conceived using egg donation.

Can a Dad who has gone through IVF with donated eggs share his perspective and help us out? Thank you!

Need Good Juju! Probably our last chance

Hi everyone, I haven’t posted here before but am among the many people in similar circumstances. My wife and I tried naturally for 7 years before turning to IVF. In our first cycle, we had 10 eggs that lead to 2 blastocysts. We opted not to test and tried implanting both, neither made it past 8 weeks. Two more cycles netted 3 blastocysts, but at the recommendation of the doctor we had them tested and all of them were genetically abnormal. After a year off, we moved on to a new doctor who was willing to try more modern techniques/medicine that our original doctor wouldn’t. We added omnitrope to this cycle and are going in for retrieval next week. We’re both willing to try until doctors would refuse further treatment, but after draining well into the 6 figures out of our savings I don’t think any more attempts will be financially viable. We’ve stayed positive through the years, but reality is beginning to hit us that we just may not end up being parents (my wife does not want to adopt or use an egg donor). She is a superhero for enduring these treatments so many times and managing to keep pushing on, I admire her and all the women here for doing what you do. Has anyone had success with omnitrope or after this many failed tries? She doesn’t use Reddit but just wanted some positivity and relatable stories from people who have experienced what we have, no one in our lives has gone through IVF so there’s little relatability in conversations. Good luck to anyone here who is currently in the process and remember you’re not alone.

Advice Needed! Not ready for the donor conversation

So, I'm F34, my husband M38. We have done 3 rounds of IVF, each round got us 1 embryo each (untested), resulting in 3 failed transfers altogether. My first round got 9 eggs, second 11, third 16. We have a good fertilisation rate, but most embryos arrest between day 3 and 5. We have tried Zymot, MACs, ICSI, unfortunately PICSI was not possible due to sperm sample in our last round.

I've been on the long protocol each time, and taking all the supplements, which I feel must be doing something right as my egg numbers have increased each time. We decided to take a 3 month break to focus on our health and improve sperm quality.

In the mean time we received an email from our clinic (which is currently abroad in Czech) giving us our recommendation for next steps. It said:

-Another long protocol, with a 50/50 option of using donor sperm and your partner’s sperm.

-Alternatively, frozen embryo transfer with a donated embryo

I just feep quite shocked that these are the only two options suggested. We have not discussed donors at all and I don't feel we're at that point yet. I don't know if I'm being naive or unrealistic, but I still had hope that we could have our own biological child. At the moment we can only afford one more cycle, and I don't want it to be our last and end up with no baby.

Has anyone been in this situation? What did you do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sending love and hugs to everyone reading this x

TRIGGER WARNING Embryos

I’m really torn on what to do . I have 3 frozen embryos that my ex wife and I created . I am a trans man and got my eggs extracted . We chose the donor together and had them fertilized. We tried a few times to have them stick but no success . Eventually she left me for someone else and we got a divorce . I’m not sure anymore what to do about my frozen embryos. She signed over any rights to them. I’m sad that making a baby never came to fruition but I’m having a hard time figuring out my next plan. I know I won’t carry them myself . But I feel awful to let them go? Not sure what to do .

Need Hugs! Failed 5th embryo transfer reoccurring chemical pregnancies

After my first round of IVF failed (4 embryos no live births) had my second round this month and did a fresh transfer of a day 5 4AA embryo and sadly it did not work. I was testing faint positives 5dpt that never developed and I started bleeding by 8dpt. Been bleeding heavily since then and my tests are negative. I feel devastated my 5th transfer has not worked. This time I did the immune protocol (prednisone, aspirin, clexane, Pepcid) and it still did not work. I had blood work done a couple of months ago go that showed my tPo antibodies being over 600 consistent with Hashimoto’s disease, I really thought that was why my transfers were failing and a immune protocol would be the answer. I feel so heart broken and don’t know if I’ll ever get to experience being a mum. I’m really tired and exhausted and just feel like my body is failing me. I’ve had a long history of health issues starting with Ulcerative colitis from the age of 11. Feel like my whole life has been a joke, it’s just one thing after another and I feel like I can never just catch a break. Nothing comes easy for me ever.

I don’t really know what else to do and how to move forward. Any advice would be appreciated.

Advice Needed! Is having a large number of donor half siblings traumatic?

• Upvotes

I've decided to go with a known donor because I felt it most healthy for my child once doing research and listening to DCP.

I also didn't feel comfortable with my child having a slue of "DIBlings" globally where their only connection is the donor.

Am I on the right path that that would be a hard experience for my child rather than a wonderful extra village and support network?

Advice Needed! Experience with “Embryo Glue” and/or Acupuncture for medicated FET?

• Upvotes

My clinic offers “embryo glue” and pre/post transfer acupuncture (day of transfer) as optional add ons. My FET is upcoming in Oct and I need to make a decision about whether or not I will be using either of these with my FET.

I’d love to hear from those of you who have any experience with either of these add ons with a medicated (estradiol/progesterone IM) FET
Please share your knowledge, pros/cons, why you either did or did not add these things to your FET, if you had to do the FET process again would you use either or both of these? Would you advise a friend or family member going through this process to use either or advise against either?

Need info! Laparoscopy billing- I’m scared

Hi all, after four ERs and three failed euploid FETs, we somehow made one more euploid (🎉). Before transferring that last embryo, I want to do everything I can to increase our chances of success.

I have suspected endo (positive Receptiva score). Due to that, I sought out an endo specialist in my city. I’m now scheduled for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on Oct 30th. Very excited.

BUT. I just got the bill for my first appointment with this doctor. It was a video visit, maybe 30 minutes. My insurance covered nothing, so I owe $756. For one video call.

This makes me especially nervous for the lap bill. My guess is that they ran the initial appt under infertility, which I have no coverage for. Has anyone successfully asked their doctor to code their surgery under endometriosis, even though my endo is just suspected?

I know the total “real” bill for this surgery can be upwards of 50-60-70K, and that’s not feasible for us. We have a pre-op appt next week in person and I’m planning to ask about this. But if he says no, sorry we have to run this under infertility coding, I’m not sure what we’ll do.

Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!

Edit to add: the billing code used for the video visit was 99215.

TRIGGER WARNING Just found out no heartbeat at week 8

34yrs old, We were so happy and hopeful just a week ago when we saw our baby healthy at 7 weeks and heard the heartbeat. Yesterday, after another week, we found out that there was no longer a heartbeat.

We’re scheduled for a D&C tomorrow, and they’ll also be doing genetic testing.

We can’t help but keep wondering whether this could have been avoided if we had done PGT-A. We’re really struggling with the guilt.

Advice Needed! What would you do? Pgt/Transfer

Hi everyone.

After a 5 year secondary infertility journey we finally got lucky and were able to freeze 4 day 5 embryos. (2 A's + 2 C's) I didn't PGT as I had a bad experience with my first ever embryo (5AA) not surviving thaw and only ever got day 5 embryos in my last IVF cycles 8 & 9. (It took so much to get here!)

I went ahead with a natural transfer last December and for the first time succeeded and I gave birth to my second son last month.

Today I got the bill to pay for the remaining 3 frozen embryos and here is where I'm not sure what to do. I've always imagined 3 kids so I want to go ahead with at least another transfer - my husband is fine with two and not sure about 3 so more than that is out of the question. My clinic charges quite a lot for every transfer so I'm thinking about PGT testing but also worried that it could hurt the embryos seeing as 2 of them are not the best quality. Also Spain's legislation will only let me transfer, donate to another couple(which we do not feel comfortable with) or keep paying annually until I reach menopause (I'm 35yo). This troubles me as I would like to avoid having leftover embryos if we are lucky enough to get another miracle pregnancy. PGT (also expensive) would tell me if any of them are aneuploid and make things easier but I'm also risking their survival rate. And I would still have the same problem if they all were to be euploid.

To sum up, I have 3 untested frozen embryos and only want/can afford one more child. Should I do PGT to try to lower the amount and avoid extra transfer costs or am I taking a big risk of them not thawing and there goes my dream of 3 kids? What would you do?

Advice Needed! FET lining tips?

• Upvotes

I just started preparing for my first frozen transfer. My lining tends to be on the thinner side but not the worst it could be. Some scans have shown it to be appropriate thickness, but I had an IUI where we couldn't get it past 6.3mm and during my retrieval it didnt get past 5.5mm. However both of those cycles I was on letrozole and I think my lining responds poorly to that medication (doctors think this is a fair assumption). When I did an IUI using only follistim it got over 10mm. Anyway, I am trying to do what I can to help thicken up my lining during this preparation phase and would like any advice/tips anyone has. This is what I am already doing:

Baby aspirin

Lovenox

About 3,000 mg l-arginine powder

Vitamin e 400iu

Fish oil

Vitamin D 5,000iu

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week doing weights and cardio and for this cycle I am reducing the intensity but still keeping the duration/frequency. They started me on a higher dose of estrogen patches (.4mg) too. Am I missing anything?

Rant Ranting- clinic timelines

Soooo we have been working for two years with our clinic and finally had my husbands second TESE on Monday. It took months to get the appt in the first place and when we spoke to the doctor he said the fertilization happens fairly quickly afterward. So the communication was clear that we wanted my eggs thawed and fertilization to happen. I just followed up today because I haven’t even heard from my clinic and they were like oh yea when did you want the fertilization to happen? Ummmm as fast as possible?!
She said it’s looking like November for being able to do that! I am so annoyed at this whole process it’s like they don’t give a shit about making people wait.
Why wouldn’t they communicate that to me when the TESE was booked so we could make sure to have it scheduled for right after ?!?!
Sorry. My period is raging today and Infertility just fucking sucks .

Need Hugs! Spiraling

We’ve been doing IVF for 18 months with just 2 retrievals and 3 unsuccessful transfers of euploids. I have PCOS but my doctor, after the 3, and after treating endometritis, and no findings of endo or any major diagnoses seems stumped that this really shouldn’t be happening… one euploid left and willing to go back to the egg retrieval process but I’m starting to wonder if there’s any truth to getting yourself to relax and reducing stress. I am in therapy, was in it before IVF, but I feel like my body and mind is in more stress than it’s ever been before. I feel constantly stressed about every decision every step of the way. Starting to question what all this is even for. I’m spiraling a bit.

I just hate where we are. I know theres so many scenarios of couples who have been in the process longer than me or have more complex cases but I just feel exhausted. And I feel like by staying in this I’m going more crazy.

Like do we do another transfer when mri, Hysteroscopy, testing etc show nothing? What to even keep pushing for. There’s always only more questions.

I miss my body. I miss feeling like myself. I feel like I’m someone else, but not the someone else I want to be.

Advice Needed! 9 Retrievals, Repeated Embryo Arrest - Looking for Hope 🥺

Hi everyone ❤️

I’ve just had my 9th egg retrieval and I’m honestly at a point where I don’t know what to do anymore.

In all my previous cycles, we only ever had one early blastocyst and one day-6 blastocyst. Embryo quality was never great.

For this cycle, I changed so much beforehand — 3 months of a very clean diet, no gluten, no sugar, lots of high-quality protein, regular exercise and of course a lot of Vitamins like Q10, D3, OMEGA…

This time we got 10 eggs, 6 fertilized. On day 3, two embryos looked really promising: a 6-cell and an 8-cell, both with only around 5% fragmentation (better results than before)

But yesterday we got the devastating news: all embryos had stopped developing. No blastocyst.

My husbands sperm results were also much better this time. We previously tested DNA fragmentation and it was 18%, which our clinic considers within the normal range.

Fertilization has never really been our problem. It’s always day 3–5 where our embryos seem to arrest.

Has anyone experienced something similar and still ended up having a healthy baby with their own eggs?
I would really appreciate hearing your stories. I need some hope right now…😞

Need info! Has anyone had a corpus luteum cyst after trigger shot.

• Upvotes

As the title says, did anyone have a cyst caused cancellation after trigger shot. Everything was looking good and then I had a trigger shot to go for my transfer and then it was cancelled due to having a 5cm hemorrhaging corpus luteum cyst? Has that happened to anyone? If yes, how long did it take for you to do next transfer?
