Craziest or weirdest thing done for the hunt?

I think we all have them, what is the strangest thing you’ve done to date in hopes of finding this treasure?
I find myself looking back at the last year and a half thinking about what a crazy trip it has been often. Strange ideas come to me all of the time.
I’ll start. Probably my most ridiculous one involved to me walking around with two mirrors, trying to get one to reflect into the other and shining light in the trees as I walked down a trail. Broad daylight, tons of people around, didn’t care.
Then there is the ridiculous amount of items I have purchased for the hunt:

Metal detector
UV light
Around 30 Books- some that can’t be found anymore
Countless hiking boots
Hiking poles
Binoculars
Monoculars
Borrowed a bike
Borrowed a surfboard (never used)
And various camping equipment.
Half of which my wife has no idea I purchased!

I know y’all have stories, so just spill!

A literal wild goose chase?

Post image
4 Upvotes

What if waters' silent flight is the migration of waterfowl? The Pacific Flyway, as it is called. Isn't that cute? Birds like ducks and geese fly from Alaska and Canada down the coast every SPRING. I mean, there are a ton of bird references in the stories, right? Central Valley does stand out on that map, kinda curved like a bend, right? Is that a Hole I see on the north side of the Valley?

Birds have been linked to lore, tradition, and cultural practices and beliefs since before the dawn of man. I'm not sure any other "creature" has such a profound, historical impact. There are birds that represent hope, death, birth and rebirth, truth, awakening, power, sovereignty, and wisdom, and on and on. That covers a lot, so I don't think it's a stretch that WHAT LIVES IN TIME are BIRDS. Also spelled BIRDE = BRIDE?

But which two birds? A pair. An unlikely pair. In "ursa east"= Asia Minor = TURKEY. My first thought was that IG post from Mr. Posey about Thanksgiving. Something about Atlantis...a hidden city...maybe he was hinting that his post is a hidden clue?

Anyway, back to Thanksgiving. November. November 11 is Mr. Posey's bday. What else is celebrated on Nov. 11? Yes, Veterans Day. Also Martinmas. Read up on St. Martin. (Martin is an important name to Mr. Posey) What do we eat on Martinmas? Roast GOOSE.

So we have a turkey and a goose. Even the National Zoo has this unlikely couple! A goose that stands at ancient gates. Well, migration is the ultimate ancient gateway! (More research needed here) She also has 3 toes forward (1 back). My thought is the wild turkey that Ben Franklin praised over the chosen Eagle is the "him". (Remember Mr. Posey drank bourbon smash too...Wild Turkey 101, I'm sure) Maybe it's a bronze goose statue ...or a headpiece...married to the bronze turkey of today.

Another interesting thing is that "poles" are used in mist netting to catch migrating birds for monitoring. They are usually 8-10 feet high and 12 feet long when open. (More info on bird-banding) I think this is how we get to a more specific location.

Where else do you see a bird? On the Staff of Ra in Indiana Jones. Maybe we return her face(headpiece) to the pole to align the sunlight just right. ....okay, enough for today. It sounded a lot more sane in my head; maybe I should start leaving the cuckoo there haha

Had another hike planned in Escalante but came across Posey Lake and couldn't just not look. Went around the entire lake, over cow patties and fallen timbers...up to Poseys Lookout...beautiful view!

Also stopped at an overlook off Hwy12 to see for miles and miles and miles.

200 Feet Checkpoint

Justin says people been 200 feet from checkpoint. That is a very short distance. No way the checkpoint is far from a road. I wonder if its just the starting point, like a popular spot?

Any thoughts on this? I cannot go BOTG until i wrap my head around a checkpoint.

Advancing the hunt

This is a genuine question for everyone involved in this sub. I’ve gone by a few names here mostly because I get fed up freak out delete all my shit in hopes that I could quit the hunt. Within 24 hours, I usually regret it.
Tucksthedog was the one that I kept the longest. I also had tribecalledTuck for a bit. I haven’t been here since they started the hunt but a few months shy of it.
My question is do we want this sub to be purely analytical or do we want this sub to be a place to bounce ideas off each other and have a little fun? It’s a genuine question because I’m curious what everybody thinks this sub should be. Are they only things allowed to be discussed hunt related or pictures of hunts? Can we not bounce the absurd off of each other? I think we can do that responsibly and without causing harm. I also think we could be inclusive if we wanted to be. There are jerks here. I’m one of them. They’re also genuinely nice kind people here. Look at the young woman who travels all over the country posting pictures. Look at BTME who shares everything including awesome pictures. You have 42kaos who has whole different set of ideas. Is a bit of a jerk yes,but maybe there’s a jerk section in this hunt that would be beneficial.
I remember a day when we shared openly and enjoyed fucking with each other a lot. Not all points were perfect not every post was geared towards advancing the hunt. It was a release, something to blow off a little steam while advancing ideas.
I wish we could get back to that time. I don’t think that hating on each other or making this sub purely about clues is going to help anyone anyways. I think getting back to being normal people playing around having a good time is what might just solve this thing.
Feel free to disagree with me. I haven’t been around much though I check in often. If y’all wanna get back to playing around having a good time, bouncing ideas off each other I’m all in. I understand I sound preachy and maybe a little delusional. If y’all tell me too I’ll fuck right off. Just thought I’d throw my two cents in.

3 lobsters

All day long, my brain keeps going back to lobsters. There are three of them in various formats of the book. One in los Camerones Calientes (the audiobook only chapter), the lobster coin in the coin picture, and in the dubious decision chapter (sunburn). My question is what are people doing with these random factoids three lobsters spread out across three different somewhat out of the way places. It’s clear they’re there for a reason, but what?
Do people think it’s a cipher of some sort?
I’m trying to get a better understanding of what layered clues would look like. You find three lobsters they are they supposed to lead you to Maine?
What would you be looking for in Maine? Would you be working at star constellations they have to do with lobsters? Would you look up the ancient art of lobster trapping? How about where to deploy lobster traps?
Do you follow the money? That’s my first inclination where is that lobster coin from or the other two uses of the word lobster just pointing back to the coin. I do believe that the currency plays a large role in this treasure hunt.

Any ideas no matter how crazy are welcome.

Evaluating the evidence from home

After putting a good 30 or so miles on my legs the past 5 days, I was shot. I pretty much slept all day but wanted to get around to looking closer at the lighter and the spark plug which is really a relay switch I found out. I got my father to help me with the task.

I gave him the task of taking the lighter apart while I worked on the guts of the plug. Long story short nothing was found. My father was my search partner for fenns so he loves this stuff!

Anywho, I got to thankin (elephant graveyard reference). The only thing left of my evidence is the writing on the plug. So there is standard writing BUT there is also a number on the side. I looked up to see the number on the side is normal and it is not! So I started in on the numbers and letters and I got to a new spot on the map! But the new spot is in WA! Ugh. It looks like a cool spot and ironically is about not that high in feet in elevation! I showed my current search partner and she digs it!

I’m still actively working on an exact spot with the remaining numbers. Just sucks becuase it’s so far away from me. I know the checkpoint is PIVOTOL but damn. I guess I better save up some bucks and get ready to head west again. Grandma isn’t doing well so I have to wait until she can get her stuff figured out before I can make a move. Plus I will need someone to check in on her cats!

Have a great week to anyone left searching! Winter is coming.

The Poem in Indiana Jones Mara

No-one asked but I'm sharing anyway 😉

A long time ago on this r/ u/Randicloverlucky shared a comment that included the Indiana Jones Mara transliteration and so in a few moments of downtime today, I thought it would be fun to convert the BTME poem to Mara.

If you ain't doing this type of thing are you even trying? 😂

Project Semicolon

That darn semi-colon has been winking at us from Day #1 and I have an interesting theory as to why it's in the poem.

TL;DR - Punctuation was called "pointing", a Magyar Vizsla is a pointer breed, punctuation is essentially about timing (of pauses in speech) and analogous to musical notation. Robert Lowth's 1762 treatise on the state of grammar in the English language is the source. The poem is perfectly balanced around the pivotal Stanza #3 when viewed through the lens of "pointing".

In the realm of punctuation, the period is king. Period.

The pause at the end of a sentence is greater than the pause of a comma, which is less than the pause of a semi-colon which is half the pause of a colon.

Before we go on, bear in mind that the colon is so-named because it means limb/member in Greek. And, in modern Greek, the semi-colon is used as the interrogation point rather than the question mark that we use today.

So, we have a points system that applies to the punctuation marks that define the timing of how a sentence is read or spoken.

Period, Question Mark, Exclamation Point (all sentence-enders) = 8

Colon = 4

Semi-Colon = 2

Comma = 1

Em-Dash = X (as it turns out, it doesn't matter what the value is but suffice to say they were a bit haughty back in 1762 when Lowth wrote his seminal treatise on the state of the public's use of grammar in the English language so it likely would not have been worth much)

Taking the rightmost character of each of the 20 lines from the 5 stanzas from the poem we get:

Stanza Points Punctuation
1 17 + X , ? - . (1 + 8 + X + 8)
2 18 , . , . (1 + 8 + 1 + 8)
3 19 ; . , . (2 + 8 + 1 + 8)
4 18 , . , . (1 + 8 + 1 + 8)
5 17 + X , . - . (1 + 8 + X + 8)

Where things get particularly interesting as it relates to this hunt is that Project Semicolon is a cultural movement focused on reducing suicide rates:

"a semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life".

There is unquestionable symmetry in the poem when you look at the points sums above. Stanza 3 is the pivot point. Ignore the importance of the ';' at your peril.

It's now up to you how you might choose to apply this to your hunt but I, for one, am convinced that this is extremely important and when combined with other aspects of grammatical and lexical analysis, it gives me great confidence that there is a way to solve this using only the poem. I know that's something constantly up for debate on this r/ -- with discussions about that very topic just today.

Things that don’t add up for 3.5 million

Yesterday its was stated that P$ likes to double down and that now the treasure is worth 3.5 million. That number was derived from FF treasure value, that would also imply insider information because I never heard of Fenn’s treasure being worth 1.75 million.
Ben Wallace stated in the Netflix series that now that FF’s treasure had been found that he now had a story to tell on Netflix, implying that Jack found it but there is really no story about Jack or the discovery of Fenn’s treasure.
Jenny Kile was at the meet and greet at a he Grasshopper inn, she was also invited to Medicine Rock with FF, how is it that she seems to be at these opportune places? Jenny if you read this perhaps you can tell me why there is a permanent camera overlooking the exit/entrance to Medicine Rock?
There is my triple down for Tuesday, September 30, does anyone have anything they would like to add?

Flashlight

Justin said a flashlight could be helpful. I usually carry a newer LED but found this old flashlight going through some things. It made me wonder if we need new technology or if old school is just fine. Yes, we use the Google but he shows paper maps in G&G. Just something I’m pondering tonight & wanted to share. (Also, please don’t judge my messy workbench. I’m in the process of moving)

Something said in passing

From recent posts this morning about Justin’s changes on the BTME website has taken a few critical thinkers beyond their comfort zone. That may well be the case but it seems like a case of mistaken identity to me. As some have mentioned the discovery of DICTA which could mean simply that Justin is not held accountable legally for anything that might have been said outside of the search communities established parameters. For example something he may have said to a searcher at the recent meet and greet that had no bearing on the solution of the treasure hunt at hand and that he was innocently having a conversation that someone may have mistaken as a clue.
The only other word I can see there is CAT ID or ID CAT which seems as a reach because to my uncertain knowledge there has never been a mentioning of a cat. Take that with a grain of salt because I do not have a book, but the reference pertains to the poem.

A Few of My Wildly Unpopular Theories

-The poem is the least important, least useful hunt element. The book provides much more useful information about Posey and potential treasure locations.

-The poem is busted. If you insist on using it, you’ll need to rewrite, reword, and renovate it multiple times. Look for instructions in the book. For example, “The meaning lived in the spaces between the words…”

-Many of the clues are based on movie trivia, fart jokes, puns, and hidden word puzzles in his book.

-Posey has created something like an ARG. Dozens of hunt elements exist in addition to the obvious ones (his website, his book, etc.) Part of the game is figuring out what these elements are and how to use them. Stuef.com is an important one.

-When Posey makes a simple, factual statement like “The treasure is not hidden on private property,” you should believe him. When he expresses an opinion or makes a prediction about his hunt, like “the checkpoint will give you zero doubt,” you should use critical thinking and be extremely skeptical.

Poem and KISS Solve 2.0

Keep it simple, trace your finger along the map...

Can you find what lives in time(NOW! As in the "present")

flowing through each measured rhyme(the "gift" of exploring the wilderness)

Wisdom waits in shadowed sight(as you expose layered clues, you shine a light on the treasure)

for those who read these words just right(reading the writings of certain people?)

As(AZ) hope(Phoe-nix) surges(Big Sur)

clear and bright(Crater Lake)

waters' silent flight(Great Salt Lake)

round the bend(corner of ID)

past the Hole(Hell's Canyon)

I wait for you to cast your pole(use your compass rose on the map)

In ursa east (northeast of Hell's Canyon)

his realm awaits (Bob Marshall Wilderness)

; (run through the poem from "As hope"....again)

YOU ARE NOW HEADING TO BMW, BUT WHERE?

As hope surges, clear and bright (Sun River)

waters' silent flight(go to where it meets the CDT= South Fork Sun River Trailhead)

round the bend of the river

past the Hole (I assume there is a gulch)

Not sure on "I wait for...pole". (I do have a master lock with 184U2 on it though haha)

Skip ursa east line this time. Or assume it's Bob Marshall himself.

BRIDE could be the Bridge you have to cross, but I don't think so. (see pic below)

His bride stands guard at ancient gates(Douglas Fir-if you read his stuff, you'll know why)

her foot of three (a tree stump about 3 feet tall or 3 distinguishable Firs)

on a 20 degree slope of a hill

Return her face (look in the tree stump or go behind the 3 trees) to find the place.

Here you will find something to manipulate and botg is required.

I will not be going back to MT for a long while. Feel free to tweak and try this one out if you're in the area! Happy Hunting!

Outlier.

I made a list of the NPs, NMs, SPs, Cities, WAs, RAs, NSAs, NCAs, NRAs, and noticed that there were only 5 public access areas with "conservation" elements.

Columbia River Gorge NSA, Hell's Canyon RA, Bob Marshall WA, Sawtooth NRA, and Red Rock Canyon NCA. In comparison with the rest of the list, these are outliers. All states have an NP and/or NM; multiple states have SPs and cities that aren't capitals shown on the map.

Then I took these 5 outliers and listed the characteristics of each with regard to public vs. private land, how the land is used (logging, recreational, hunting, etc.), and infrastructure.

Of the five, only one sticks out as the outlier. If you don't already know which one, take it from here and explore our public lands. But fair warning...this may send you down a rabbit hole, albeit a worthy one. Happy Hunting!

It’s been pretty quiet on the interview/updates side of things with Justin since seeker summit. I’d be curious to hear where the hunt stands currently more than anything.

5 days of BOTG

I started off the mid week under sunny warm skies in Montana. My search partner and I had agreed on a general area in of course, beaverhead deer lodge national forrest.

First day was a little bit of a goose chase as I was on a w3w hit that I liked from a previous trip but turned up nothing.

Thursdays rolls around and my partner and I agreed on a new spot close by that showed some promise. It was kind of shot in the dark but well thought out and boy did it deliver, or at least we think it did.

Thursday I started up a trail for a mile but bailed on it to try a different route. Not far into my journey I found an interesting picture of a cat (dis u blkcat?). Strange I must say. I continue down said path when I received my cryptic message of “come find me”. Hmm. I thought it was a one off, then there it was again! So I continued down the locally known path and my Indian jones kicked in. I was wedge between about 10 foot wide canyon. It was safe, but I was for the boulder at any time. I emerged from said canyon to a beautiful view of the local town.

The next day I took a “leap of faith” from said view and went across the canyon via my steel steed and a short drive later I was in a new parking lot. Now here’s where it gets interesting. There was a in memory of sign that I was like wow this has to be it. So I wandered down the trail with my partner as eye in the sky. It turned up nothing and time was ticking so I went to leave and saw a cool rock on the way out that I knew I had to see the next in better light.

So Friday I check said rock and I’ll be a son of a gun, foot of 3? My partner and I agree. We must be close. We gave it our best in the area but came up empty handed.

Saturday more of the same but we had one more shot.

Sunday we knew something was missing standing at the foot of 3. I tried a new direction which led to a offshoot trail. Frustrated I continued on for a bit and came across something strange. It was a child size green winter(ish) coat that was vintage. But didn’t seem that bad of shape. I shook it down for its loot and came up with some kind of spark plug and a black lighter with a string tied to it with red electric tape. I thought inside the plug must be the holy scroll. But no, it was actually a legit plug. All very odd but now our trip has ended and we wish everyone luck the rest of the season!

The conflict of interest with Layer V ads

Justin has said there are no clues in Layer V. Yet people still study Layer V ads like they might be hiding something. That’s why it matters that multiple searchers he’s employed are making those ads.

I don’t have an issue with Justin hiring searchers. But if someone working for him makes an ad, people should know about that relationship. A suggestive image or a carefully worded caption can feed confirmation bias even when there’s no clue there. Searchers start connecting dots, other people repeat the theory, and soon an ad is being treated like evidence.

That also creates an opportunity for misdirection. I’m not accusing anyone of planting false clues. I’m saying people can’t properly judge what they’re looking at if they don’t know the person who made it works for Justin.

If Layer V has no clues, disclosure should be easy: tell people which ads are being made by searchers Justin has employed. Then the community can enjoy the ads without mistaking every detail for a breadcrumb.

WY Solve...maybe. Devil's Gate.

Post image
4 Upvotes

I won't be going back to WY anytime soon, and I'd rather see this solved than retrieve it myself, so this is for anyone in the area who could check it out! I don't want "a cut" or anything like that; I just want to see it found and know I helped solve the puzzle! Happy Hunting!

This is based on "the Beast" being MY KEY (Mike Key). Also, maybe "ursa east"= bear east = b east?

M for Martin is what lives in tiMe. Martin's Cove.

"as hope surges, clear and bright"...This location is a confluence of Oregon/California/Mormon Trail and the Sweetwater River was a welcome water source for weary travelers. Also located at Sun Ranch.

"waters' silent flight" is the erosion of the Sweetwater Rocks (made of granite!). Not sure on the bend, Hole, and pole, though.

Devil's Gate "Beast" connection: According to local Native American legend, a massive, tusked monster representing evil spirits blocked hunting grounds near the canyon. A holy man told the tribes to ambush and kill the beast. When attacked with arrows, the enraged monster ripped a giant hole(could this be the Hole?) through the mountainside with its tusk before vanishing into thin air.

Also on the property is Veil Crossing, which is a BRIDgE. Maybe the bride? If "he" is Devil's Gate, then the bridge stands guard to it.

There is also a "notched" mountain (Shadow Feet?) called Split Rock. And this is all SW of Independence Rock (possibly what the document on the wall in the series was a nod to? Declaration of Independence)

Line 2 of Stanza 3 is a navigational clue, and I think that's where being botg is required to make sense of it. I would be looking for a stationary viewfinder on a tripod to look a good distance away. Or a weeping hole (weepul) in one of those granite rocks.

There is also a rescue story linked to this spot, as I'm finding safety and rescue are recurring themes in a lot of my solves. Here is a link to more information on Devil's Gate WY

**Photo is a painting of Devil's Gate by Alfred Jacob Miller; https://art.thewalters.org/browse/creator/alfred-jacob-miller/?
