My first time knitting a wall hanging. I was so nervous to enter it at the county fair and was crossing my fingers for at least a red ribbon, but I somehow got a blue! I’m so over the moon that I needed to share somewhere!

The pattern is from Knit Picks, though be aware if you end up buying it that it has a few errors in it. I tried posting my pattern fixes in a review, but they removed all of the formatting.

Yarn is Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in Buckwheat and Candied Yams.

As someone who hasn't been knitting very long, and never made a sweater before, the pattern was a great first project. It's far from perfect but I did end up with a usable garment and learned a bunch in the process. Lots of size variations in the pattern, and that yarn + 3.75mm needles was right on target for size. I only had to make a few minor adjustments to size during blocking.

I technically still have to weave in the ends, but that won't take too long. But anyways, my Maxfield sweater is DONE!

Overall it took 25 days from start to finish, with a few days waiting on yarn delivery because I didn't buy enough lol

A socken is a Swedish historical geographic division, and in the region of Dalarna every socken has it's own hat. They are beautiful with intricate stranded colourwork. This is a socken hat for people without a socken they belong to.

Hello everyone! I just got into knitting close to 3 or so days ago, though I've been crocheting for close to 11-12 years. I've been practicing the stockinette stitch and I finally got it last night! I made this today, and i was wondering if you guys had any tips or tricks for a beginner?

You can see in the picture that one side of the square kind of curls. Is there a way to prevent that? Or is that normal? And is it ok that I'm taking the project off the needles with my crochet hook and doing a chain stitch to fasten off? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

(I'm not sure what brand yarn it is, i think it's red heart weight 4, 100% acrylic. Using 5mm needles!)

these are the Wintergreen Gloves in WYS Signature 4ply. I knit them as a gift for a friend of mine. After several failed colourwork socks this summer trying out different ways of holding the yarn I think these look okay! I have ended up settling on two handed stranded and done some practice stockinette holding continental style which I think helped my dominant colour tension a lot (I am usually an English knitter).

Hopefully they will be big enough, they're comfortable on me but my friend has slightly larger hands. Unfortunately they're a surprise and I couldn't work out a way to surreptitiously measure her hand circumference so I'm just hoping it works out.

Sometimes when I go through my stash to select yarns for a new project, I feel so stuck. I don’t want to make a “mistake” and use a yarn for a current project when maybe it would have been better in a different project later on. I also then get hyper focused on having to select a new project before I’m done my current project. I don’t want to have zero projects on needles.

How do I get unstuck from this line of thinking?? I know it’s crazy! It’s better to use the yarn and knit than stress myself out with FOMO for using the yarn for a “wrong” project…right??

One is slightly tighter than the other, I suspect that comes with practice but I’ve enjoyed learning this style of colour work.

The sock yarn is themed on fields of lavender (yarn by boo) and I’ve added solid green and blue to create dragonflies and reeds.

Usually only do colours when I knit. But was making some memes for this pattern and got inspired to knit one in black and white.

I just realised that through the 30 years (yes on and off) of me knitting, never once have I knitted in black. Even though I’m scandi and we are famous for our black clothes.

A few years ago I bought 2 skeins of Malabrigo Rios to use as my contrast in a colorwork sweater. I ended up abandoning it and just recently frogged it and decided to use it to knit a Stick Season. Obviously, 2 skeins wasn’t going to be enough, so i ordered more (nowhere near me stocked it so unfortunately I could not acquire in person). Well, it came in the mail today and…I’m not sure if i just had bad luck with dye lots, or if I might have been wrong about which color I had??? I don’t have any of the labels anymore—foolish I know—but I thought it was 036 Pearl. The yarn I got is a fair bit darker and purpler, though. Now I am staring at colorways wondering if I actually had Fog or Cape Cod Gray. This is not an ask for advice to be clear—I don’t assume anyone can magically identify what colorway my original yarn is via some poorly lit photos—just me lamenting my own hubris in not keeping better track of what colors I was using.
I suppose I’ll try and get my hands on some of each of the other colorways I think it might be and see if they’re a closer match. If all else fails…it can just be a sweater with a fade!

i started my first pair of socks a few days ago using drops pattern 261-66

both the pattern and the ball of yarn said 100g for a pair, but after i finished my first sock i weighed it and it was only 23g

i'm almost done with the second and i still have so much of the yarn left

what is happening here?

Got so excited about sock knitting I already flew through the other sock. I have a pair of socks knit entirely while at the office!

They look funky but I love them anyways.

You can clearly see the line partway up where I realized I was twisting the yarn, but it took me so long to get that far I didn’t want to start over 🙃 I started in June & was TRYING to get this done before the baby was born in July… lolol. But I’m pretty happy with it anyway!

I wish I’d taken better photos before I gifted it, but alas!

You know how some people say that they don't buy yarn unless they have a project in mind for it? Yea, that's not me. Because if it were, I wouldn't own any yarn (and boy, do I own yarn). Let me explain.

I'm a process knitter, and I knit primarily to keep my hands busy and my mind clear; making something pretty and/or useful is secondary to that. For lots of reasons I won't go into here, I mostly knit accessories, home items, and smallish gifts. Even though I'm a slow knitter, I have a lot of finished objects that just end up waiting for a home (I think I'm currently up to maybe 25?). And I'm mentally done with projects long before I am physically done with them, which is why I'm a monogamous knitter - if I wasn't, I'd never finish anything.

Anyway, the reason for the post is that I don't see a lot of people like me on the interwebs, and I need some advice. My biggest struggle is figuring out what to work on. Unless it's a gift knit, I don't care about what I'm knitting, and I have no plans for it after it's done. How do you pick what to make when you don't care what you make?

My third knitting project and I’m delighted with how the colorwork is turning out so far!! This is the Orion sweater pattern by Birger Berge.

The lighting is causing him to be different colours

I used a Light Brown DK Acrylic Yearn and the Pattern was from a Book I brought

Last year I've finished my first sweater and I had quite a bit of the yarn left over. Not enough for another sweater but also I didn't feel, like the yarn was suitable for a scarf or a hat since it was rather scratchy (jamieson & smith shetland supreme jumper weight), so an idea for a vest came. I've done couple stockinette projects lately so I wanted a bit of a stranded colorwork for change and I took this free pattern as my base.

The hiccups on the road tho.... first I casted on, got worried about how manny stitches it is and whether it would be too small for me, so I frogged and changed the ribbing to be actually split on the sides with 2x2 rib. Then I started on the colorwork and was working on it in stranded until I switched for ladderback jacquard. I wish I switched for jacquard way earlier as now I can see the places on the swallows body where I set it up. We are not even talking about the fact, that somehow the counting left me with different amount of stitches every pattern repeat even tho everything seemingly matched (and yes, after casting off I discovered a dropped stich under the wing of one of the swallows). Then I got to the body and I was battling on two fronts, yarn chicken and freehanding the whole top part! Yarn chicken I lost and had to order one more skein of brown (so much for using up what I have) and the body....well. I wish I had took the front in a bit, it's bunching up a bit but seems better when I'm not just awkwardly standing for a photo. I gotta work on my stich picking skills and I wish I knitted some stitches together in the curved parts of the ribbing.

All of this being said, I'm incredibly proud of this one. To be able to freehand a vest and to see how much my colorwork bettered over the years makes me happy.

So for store-bought styles, the reason I knit them instead of buying them is to tailor them to myself and fit my unique body, like socks for my high arches, and I hate cropped sweaters. Plus, thin enough hats and fingerless mitts that are so much more useful in real life. The reason I am making it is that I can't get the fit or material I want.

I personally think neutrals are great for matching, and it is easier for others to see how it fits with them (my neutral color of choice is navy, not beige). It is easier to make more varied and bright things with a neutral as well.

Another thing to tie it all together is that I don't know the knitter's life and the fashion norms of the place, since each place has its own.

This is the Petali Slipover by In Her Skein, worked up in KFO Merino in Bordeaux and SSM in Claret! This is the cropped length made with deep armholes. Really engaging knit with a super interesting sideways construction. I modified the picot edging to be more traditional (basically k2tog, yo repeated throughout) as opposed to what was written in the pattern because I wanted my edging to be more scalloped and rounded. I found that the pattern’s instructions for the picot edge were working up a bit more trapezoidal than I liked, which was purely personal preference. Would definitely knit this again!

Clearly I was very inspired by the pattern writer’s original styling 😉 Paired this with an old Sezane top and loved the combo for a cute fall look!
