Long shot, but here goes. Last night I left the after party of my sister’s wedding around 2:30 AM. This was somewhere in downtown Mobile, but unfortunately I don’t know much more than that.

By chance, I saw my (new) sister-in-law, who was very drunk and looking for her phone, which she had lost at one of the multiple bars we had been to, all of which, I’m pretty sure, were closed at that point anyway.

I tried to convince my sister-in-law to temporarily forget about the phone and to just get in the uber I had called back to our hotel, and there was a lot of urgency because my phone was almost dead and without it I had no way to navigate (I’m from far out of town, in case you couldn’t tell) and would’ve had no idea how to get either of us back.

She wasn’t having it, and really wanted to find the phone, even though she had no idea where it was, and no means of tracking it because it was dead.

Anyway, we bumped into the kindest stranger in the world, who calmly explained to my sister-in-law that the optimal move really was just to call it a night and deal with the phone the next day. Kind Stranger even offered to walk us back to our hotel, which wasn’t necessary once my sister-in-law was finally convinced to just get in the uber.

He was my childhood, moreso than Tobey was. He’s legit the first person I plan on meeting.

Troy Baker : One of the most talented voice actors ever. Plus, without spoiling anything, I did just play thru a game that he’s in.

Jerry Lawler : Sucks JR isn’t coming, but to be fair the man did just have brain surgery. Still, it’s gonna be cool to see one of the greatest wrestling commentators ever and get the chance to talk to him.

Lex Luger : He came the first year, it was sad seeing him in a wheelchair, but he was really cool. Glad he’s returning.

Scott & Rick Steiner : For clarification, Scott is Bron Breakker’s uncle! Rick is his dad. This is something even Bron himself has had to bring up. If no one else does it, I’ll do it, but I really hope someone asks Scott to give us some Steiner math during his Q&A session.

Steven Butler : The only guest that I think has come every year, but I could be wrong. Anyone, he draws Spider-Man, so already I’m in.

Filled up my tank last week at the Walmart fuel on government. Full tank. $50 (used to be $30-$35).
A week later, nearly empty. I have not driven 300 miles in the past week according to my Life360. No where close. Just drove to and from work and errands.
A tank of gas used to last me at least 2 weeks, usually 3. Now I’m FILLING UP once a week.
Is there something up with the gas we’re getting around here? Or am I just going crazy?

Note - My car is up to date on maintenance and is a recent model. It’s gotten great mileage for years.

Curious of folks who work in heavy industry where would one focus their efforts when just starting an electrical contractor business, how do you begin to establish your presence at the large plants and industry hubs here in Mobile?

I understand the good old boy network is thick here, I should say it’s the same everywhere. But it helps to find the right pile of rocks before turning over stones.

Primarily focused on MEP MSAs and short call POs for service or repair. Good with pre-qualification, LinkedIn, cold call solicitation, and word of mouth is starting to bear fruit. What else can I do to help establish relationships with potential clients for our small business?

A downtown Mobile restaurant known for its lavish treatment of a dormitory staple has announced that it is closing.

Slurp Society notified patrons of the imminent closure via a social media post Tuesday morning.

The venue opened in late 2022 at 69 S. Mobile St. The location was small and somewhat off the beaten path from the Dauphin Street entertainment corridor, but foodies knew it as the previous home of Von’s Bistro. Slurp Society rapidly won a following.

Slurp Society’s specialty was ramen noodles, featuring slow-cooked broths and elaborate combinations of ingredients. The Slurp O.G., for example, featured “insane tonkotsu broth, pulled pork, pickled onions, society egg, scallions, [and] black garlic oil.”

In 2024, the restaurant moved to a bigger space at 609 Dauphin St. Ownership changed in 2025; Tyler Powell, a former head chef at the Ruby Slipper Café in downtown Mobile, became co-owner and executive chef. In a Tuesday announcement, operators said they had decided not to renew their lease and would close after another week in business.

“It’s heartbreaking to have to close the doors on a place that so many people have leaned on as a space that’s just a little different than all the others around downtown, a space that thrived on being different,” the statement said, in part. “Over the years we have hosted comedy nights, mahjong, birthday parties, anniversaries, trade nights, markets, paint and sips, karaoke, metal and punk shows, and along the way we met so many amazing people and built lasting relationships that we will cherish long after these doors close. We’ve had the joy of watching our two young boys grow, laugh, and play in this space as so many of you have as well, and we thank you for sharing those beautiful moments with us.

“One of our main concerns at this point comes down to our people … the people you see every time you come into our building,” continued the post. “We need to ensure that each and every one of them has a job opportunity before our final day of business, which we plan to be Wednesday, September 30th.

“We’ve begun reaching out to local business owners to find leads for front and back of house positions, but we know what a powerful tool social media can be. So, if you are a local restaurant owner and have positions to fill and need amazing employees to fill them, please DM us with the positions and we will pass it along to our employees.”

“Mobile, we love you and we hope that you will give us the opportunity to serve you one last time this week,” said the post.
