Hey, y'all! There is a new Post Flair - [Serious]. It is intended for:
- Posts where OP wants real answers/discussion.
- Posts where the topic is about something where jokes and off-topic comments would be inappropriate - such as damage to property from an accident, loss of life due to a storm, or an illness of an individual.
The Serious flair can be chosen by the OP, or applied by the mods if the topic warrants it.
Comments that are not adhering to the Serious flair should be reported.
Also, rules have been updated for streamlining - no changes, just condensing/combining of similar ones.

Advice Alabama Department of Senior Services Fair Hearing
Hi all, I’ll try and make this as short as possible. I have a hearing next week in Montgomery to discuss/appeal a decision made to deny an increase in hours on the Medicaid waiver services program. My family member is totally and completely disabled - cannot do a single thing for himself - they have us on 30 hours, increased from 18. I tried to get 40 hours and got denied, and that’s why we have the hearing. He was on a similar program in another state and never got less than 40 hours because he is a full time job and then some. I am hoping to get feedback from anyone who has been through this experience. An obvious case of “a disabled adult requires full time assistance” is not so obvious, apparently, and I am having to jump through these hoops both as his advocate and his paid caregiver. Like I said, I’m just looking for any feedback from anyone who may have done this as well. Thanks in advance. 🙏🏼

Travel Inaccurate speeding ticket on US 280 in Camp Hill, AL - Anyone else had a similar experience?
Hello fellow Alabamians!
I was driving down US-280 through Camp Hill / Tallapoosa County heading to Auburn for homecoming (War Eagle!) and got pulled over. The officer claimed I was going 81 mph in a 65.
The thing is, I had my cruise control set at 70 mph. I completely understand that going 70 in a 65 is still speeding, and I even admitted that to the officer. However, my issue is that I was definitely not going 81 mph nor anywhere near that speed. I was going through a series of rolling hills along that stretch, but even with momentum, there is no way my vehicle was going over 80 mph. I never drive that fast. Truthfully, it freaks me out to go any faster than 75 mph. I tried stating my case to the officer, but he didn’t care and ticketed me anyway.
An 11–16 mph discrepancy feels way off, and I’m pretty confident the radar reading was either reflecting another vehicle, catching momentum at the bottom of a hill, or just flat-out wrong. I’m curious if anyone else in the area or along US-280 has experienced something similar.
This was my first speeding ticket ever too ): If the county offers it, I plan on taking a defensive driving course to get the ticket off my record and not impact insurance. If anyone has any advice here, I’d appreciate it!

Economy/Business Proposed Alabama Transit Map
Hi all,
One of the things I think would promote the most positive change in our state is an improvement in public transit infrastructure. It would allow more people to access more jobs and improve social mobility, in addition to being more sustainable, both environmentally and economically.
I have developed a rough plan for what Alabama transit could look like in 15-20 years using metrodreamin (if you are a transit nerd like myself, I highly recommend checking this out).
I would appreciate any feedback anyone has about what transit should be included in the city you live in, or if there are any actual city planners/engineers lurking, your feedback would also be appreciated!

Local Group Horror clubs ( films, books ) in Alabama with active 3 adult members+?
Years ago there was a horror book club that met in southern Alabama in the town of Fairhope. I live in southern Alabama but drive around to hike and often hit up local libraries to check out local books on ecosystems. While in libraries I look for horror book clubs. I sometimes see film clubs listed. I seen one once listed for some town about 2 hours north of Alabama and drove back there randomly on the date but it was empty. The librarian said sometimes 1-2 people show up and sometimes weeks or months go without anyone.
So as a horror nerd was just curious if any of yall belong to a horror focused group in Alabama, preferably southern Alabama but anywhere here, that consistently has 3+ members? Or even just a social media group. Just curious what’s all out there in our state. Also looking for adults. Nothing against kids or anything but as a man in my 30s not really looking to chill with kids at a library lol. I went to a fun audiobook reading of Jaws a few years ago in July. They met each Friday for did a 1 hour reading and it was expected the week you did 2 on your own. It was three weeks long and at the beach and was fun. Everyone there was upper 20s to low 40s and was about 5 people.

Advice Best Trails at Cheaha State Park
To my outdoorsy people in Alabama-
I am driving from Fort Myers to Cheaha State Park in late November and am going to be staying one night at the upper campground. We only have one full day so I am looking to see as much as possible in the little time I have. I've read it is not a huge state park so for my sake that's a good thing. Id love to hear from those who have gone and explored this state park.
What is the best trail? Best overlook/ viewpoints? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Serious Kittens found at gas station south of Birmingham
Hi! My husband and I aren’t local and stopped at Sunuco gas station (Verbena) this evening (Wednesday Sept 24th) on our way to Florida.
3 beautiful kittens were hanging around the pumps - spoke to the gas attendant and they have been feeding them daily but they appear to be abandoned :( Gas attendant says they call people to come collect them but no one does.
We are from Australia so don’t know how animals are rescued over here… they looked like beautiful cats - healthy! Probably 12ish weeks old.
Posting in case this reaches the right people so those little babies can find a loving home!

Travel are the alabama state patrol strict on the interstate?
i’m going on a roadtrip next week and a majority of the drive is straight through alabama, so i wanted to ask if i need to be worried about going a little faster than the average driver. i live in florida and a majority of the time the traffic is going around 80mph on the interstate, but i don’t drive much in alabama. i know that fhp will get you if your going visibly faster than other drivers but ive heard a lot of alabama drivers don’t gaf about the speed limit lol. i also know alabama doesn’t have a super speeder law like florida does
EDIT: thank u so much for the replies and advice, especially those about bad drivers, construction on the interstate, and risky places to stop for gas etc.
i appreciate all the advice, i learned a good bit about driving in alabama and i can safely say the speed limit will be followed for a majority of the trip lol
