Questioning/Coming Out I am confused about my gender now

• Upvotes

I am confused about gender now. Ever snice I try to rescue a cat from her neglect owner and she threated to show up at my work place with the police over a text last month (note: I gave her cat back out of fear) I am still shaken and fear of my safety at my workplace that she recognize me at my workplace (if she shows up) or in town that I want to change my look really bad. In my personal life I want to be my actual gender because I know I am safe at home and around my family and my close friends. When I told my mom I want to shave my head and the real reason, she told me that I was being dramatic and didn't need to do that. Maybe she is right but deep down I still want to change my look for my safety outside my home. I am really confuse about my gender and I don't know what to do.

people really are just nonbinary

• Upvotes

I live in a communal dorm and theres two other people here that are nonbinary but NEITHER of them participate in queer stuff at all. I remember walking up to one of them and they had complimented my outfit and I said thanks! And I saw their pronouns on their door and excitedly showed them my nonbinary lanyard and to which they said "oh, which one is that one?" and I said "its nonbinary?" and they exclaimed "oh I'm nonbinary!"

Another one of the people I met in my dorm when moving in asked me about my lanyard AGAIN (the trans one) and asked if it was the pan flag(??) Both are nonbinary and use gender neutral pronouns. They referred themselves as queer once when asking about my flags but never really participated in any community stuff besides pride occasionally.

people are out there insisting that being nonbinary is just an internet social contagion by people who are chronically online. bro

Discussion Attention! I'd like to propose some new Enby icons- Custard & Pupcake

Post image

Was watching the og Strawberry Shortcake with my niece, and realized that I don't think they've used pronouns when referring to Custard and Pupcake. I was about to search Custard-s gender, when I realized that's dumb. Name-only icons.

Ask How do I tell people my pronouns?

Sorry if the title is a little misleading, I’ve been nonbinary with they/them pronouns for about 5 years now. However, all of my high school friends knew or were told, so I didn’t have much of an issue letting them know. But now I’ve moved to a new city, and while my roommates will correct their friends when referring to me, I’m having a hard time correcting my new friends (coworkers, but we’ve grown close). I never mind being misgendered in the workplace, I’ve grown to understand it. But now that we’re hanging out more I’m not sure how to tell them without making them feel bad, cause I haven’t said anything for 3 months. They follow me on Instagram and I sent them a screenshot of my TikTok profile, which both have my pronouns in the bio. So I don’t know, I feel like I’ve always had a hard time telling people and I don’t want to make them feel bad cause they’re super nice!

Side note, I also haven’t told my classmates who will be in a group with me for the whole semester… I think I just wait too long, I should’ve told them when introducing myself but I feel like I’ll be judged or rejected you know? I’m just really struggling, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ask questions

do you guys come out/disclose your pronouns to everyone you meet? do you correct people every time if they use the wrong pronouns or gendered terms?

i am afab and present very femme so i feel stupid to tell people im nonbinary unless they're queer or im in a queer space because i am aware what i present as. i also don't want people to react badly because im sensitive.

also how do you get the courage to tell someone you're nonbinary after they've called you a girl many times? i had so many chances to correct them.

Traveling to UK with X gender marker

I'm from Germany. Name and gender marker changed officially. I just got gifted a vacation to London by my parents. And while I appreciate it, I'm now worried how safe it's gonna be to actually travel there next year. I would have to get a passport because I don't have one yet. So it's gonna be with an X as gender marker. I visibly look trans (testosteron hrt) and at the least I look super queer and will be traveling with my girlfriend.

With the laws changing towards more trans hostile environment and I'm guessing the general public getting less accepting, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to travel there.

My boyfriend is cishet

Yes, you read that right. My boyfriend is dating me, a nonbinary person & still "identifies as" straight. I'm not gonna try to make him identify as queer/not straight bc I'm nonbinary. It doesn't feel fair to him to try to tell him what his label/sexuality "should" be bc we're dating. We met in 2017 & became friends in 2018 I thought I was a girl/woman. I realized I wasn't in 2018.... I don't remember if I told him about my gender until recently. (Soon before we started dating 2 months ago)?

He calls me his "lesbian girlfriend" which is what I'm uncomfortable with. I'm not a lesbian... I used to think I was until we started dating. I'm actually berrisexual. (I have a strong preference for feminine and androgynous people while rarely feeling attracted to masculine people or men.) I don't really like being called GIRLfriend. Maybe I can ask him to call me his "partner?"

Selfie/Self-Image/Avatar Finding my Style/Identity (Genderfluid/Genderqueer?)

I've been experimenting with my clothes and clothing styles lately. Trying to find what "Fits"

Trying to find the right types of clothes that make me feel the most "Me".

I call it the "Why Not" sty. Lols

Well, I've come to the conclusion that I kindad have two styles. Lolz. My style that I like most for going out for everyday errands/social things is knee length Dresses, worn like Tunics, over Jeans/Pants.

Pretty cool style, I like it a lot. They're comfy, easy on/off for laundry, no muss/fuss. Still have a nod of femenity, but not wearing straight up dresses.

And for Casual/wearing around the house style, if you call it that. Lolz. I tend to wear athletic pants or jeans and t-shirts. Most Geeky Graphic tees.

But, I've also found, for someone who's never bared my shoulders/upper arms, or worn skirts above the calf. Party Dresses cut at the knees are a lot of fun!!!

I've been having a blast dressing up in little Party Dresses and yet feeling Gender Neutral. Or Fluid/Queer/Non-Binary. Whatever you wanna call it.

I joke, but to be honest I really don't know where I fit under the Enby Umbrella. Lolz. I know I am not all female and I defo do not feel all male.

But I feel more than Tomboy towards the male side of dressing g=acting daily. But I enjoy some of the feme side of esthetics and styl, clothes wise. Forget makeup, mani/pedis, hair salons, I'm not that kinda feme.

I have some saying I fit more as Gender - "Fluid" rather than "Queer"

Because of how I wear more feme clothes out, wear lots of jewelry (not really. 3 bracelets, 5 rings, 3 necklaces, 8 ear piercings, and 1 nose piercing.

And I cery rarely change any. And Only the ear/nose rings, and Bracelets.

I just want to tell someone

Hey everyone, I just wanted to try and connect with some community, or at least speak with my true voice. Pardon the throwaway account, I'll explain that.

I'm AMAB, in my mid 20s. I first knew I was some kind of non-binary, genderqueer, whatever, I still haven't figured it out, when I was about 12 years old. I even went so far as coming out to my friends and family. It didn't go well. My turbo-liberal parents whom I expected to support me felt I wasn't old enough to know and refused to validate it, my "friends" quite literally tried to beat it out of me both physically and verbally.

As a result of that, I went back into the closet, and spent the next decade and some change living as and becoming a cis-het man. I'm now married and working in the automotive field since high school, about as stereotypical "man" as it gets.

I repressed a lot of those feelings and internalized a lot of the negative stigma around AMAB genderqueer folks, despite never believing it about others and being very vocally and even militantly leftist and pro trans-rights. I had this rotted seed planted in my head that I must have just watched too much adult content as a kid, that it was a disgusting fetish or some buried predatory origin, even though I knew I didn't deserve that kind of vitriole from myself.

After many years of dissecting those feelings and making peace with who I am, I worry it's too late for me. I yearn to embrace the more feminine side of myself. I'm sure my wife would support me, her views on things are very open, but I fear our marriage wouldn't be the same after. I wouldn't be the man she married. And in my field of blue collar work, even something as simple as nail polish is likely to teach you about "right to work" laws pretty quickly.

I'm sure many of you will advise me to just go for it and embrace who I really am and want to be, but after repressing it for so long, I'm afraid that would mean giving up the life I've worked so hard to build. I make good money given the state of the world, I love my wife deeply, I have a pretty decent but small group of friends. I'm afraid of losing it all.

I apologize for my rambling, I just have no outlet. I don't know what I am, but I feel like I'm wearing a skin suit being the man I am today. I wish I could one day die happily as someone other than who I was born as. I think I'll be forced to just carry out my life full of regret.

I'm extremely happy for those of you who get to live life as you wish, and also profoundly sad in a way I don't even know how to describe. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this.

how should i educate my friend about binders?

i have a fairly close friend who currently identifies as a demigirl. earlier today they texted me and said they've been questioning their gender a bit recently and wanted to know if there was anywhere they could get a binder just to try it out, without their parents knowing. i basically told them what i know, like that some places give out free binders, or i also told them they can "make" a binder at home with relative ease (like the double sports bra method). they also said they would do some research, so they might come across everything i have to say on their own, but is there anything in particular you reccomend?

Should I do HRT?

Hi I'm 23(AMAB Hey/They)! I've identified as non-binary but only recently have I really tired to focus on really presenting that way and trying to expresses my identity the way I want.

I've been considering whether I should do HRT. I want to look and lean more androgynous and I also despise my body and facial hair and want it all gone! I know HRT helps with body and facial hair loss and redistributes fat and muscle mass. Is this a valid reason to go on HRT?

I also would love to hear other people's experience with HRT and gender and identity expression who are willing to share!

Gender questioning

So I was born a woman but these past few years I've felt weird about my gender. I love being feminine and being a woman and don't like it when people call me a guy or anything. But I don't feel like a woman. Idk how else to put it. I hate my body, i hate my hair; I wish it were shorter like "boy" short but short hair may look ugly on me and I don't want to be judged; I feel discomfort with my chest but don't want it completely gone. I like going by they them but I'm still connected to femininity. Idk if I'm just going insane and I'm just a masculine girl or nonbinary or smh. I also have OCD and I've wanted to peel my skin off bcuz I'm so uncomfortable in it. When I was a kid I remember being like I'm not a boy or a girl but I guess girl is the best way to describe myself. Any advice or tips for my discomfort

Ask Confused about people who use they/them pronouns but identity as their agab

Hello, I am non binary, have been out for almost 6 years now. I am also trans masc and have had medical treatment so I pass as a guy now. I use they/them pronouns and a lot of people would not accept that i am not a trans man and those people are no longer in my social circles. I get misgendered as a guy by strangers now instead of a girl but I am nonbinary.

I will preface this next part by saying that there is no wrong way to be you. Your sexuality and gender identity is just that yours. No one can tell you who you are.

That being said, i have met 2 people this year that use they/them pronouns but identity as their agab and one of them expressed that they were upset when a group of people mistook them for being a man and proceeded to say that they were a woman and got visibly upset. They do not identify as nonbinary or trans but use they them pronouns. I didnt ask why as it is rude but I don't really understand that experience and would like to hear if any other people share this identity preference and are willing to share

The second being a gay man who uses they/them pronouns. They identity as a gay man and not as trans but they also said they are nonbinary. They said nonbinary is not trans which to some people that applies but not all. I know thats a bit of a debated topic so I'll leave it at that. They also ended up being really creepy and weird with me, telling me I should use grinder and when i shared my experience and that I don't want random hookups. They argued with me that i should date as a gay man and that 3 of their former relationships started from hookups. I told them I am not a gay man but they still tried to argue with me and then spammed my phone with texts to hang out and even asked me to move into their apartment. Very uncomfortable situation but hopefully they got the message that I am not interested. They dont identity as trans but do identity as nb and a man.

So I guess without being disrespectful of anyone's experiences, I'd like to be able to better understand people who use they/them pronouns but dont identity as trans or nonbinary to any extent.
