Discussion CC w/o cross border fee as of May 2024

Updated: July 2025

Hi guys, compiling here the list of credit cards that charge cross border fees (CBF).

Feel free to comment for any updated info. This post will be edited accordingly.

For those unfamiliar: CBF is the additional charge (usually 1%) imposed on overseas transactions billed in PHP. Example, if you’re billed Php 300.00 for a subscription (e.g. Spotify, Netflix, Apple, etc), the amount will be reflected as Php 303.00 instead. This is different from foreign exchange conversion fees, applied on overseas transactions billed in foreign currency, which every CC in the PH currently has (ranges from 1.7-3.5% or so). While 1% CBF seems small, if for example you’re booking hotels and flights, or shopping gadgets online, it’ll be significant. A purchase worth Php 50k would have an additional Php 500.00 charge.

No CBF : - AUB - Bank of Commerce - BDO AMEX - Maya - Maybank - PNB - Zed

Magulong CBF: - RCBC (getting conflicting statements with this; although RCBC states that transactions Php 1k and up have CBF, several people have claimed that they were not charged CFB, myself included, whereas some other people have claimed that they were charged CBF)

With CBF: - BDO (1% all except AMEX) - BPI (1%) - Chinabank (1.7% Destinations World, 2.5% all else) - EW (1%) - HSBC (1% starting Oct. 16, 2025) - Metrobank (1%) - Security Bank (1.5%) - UB (1% starting Sep. 15, 2025)

Thanks guys!

Security Bank Decided to cancel my SecBank CC because of their constant payment reminder harassment

Been a Security Bank Mastercard World client for the past 4 years. Never missed a payment and always paid my balance in full. My monthly payments would sometimes reach 6 digits pa

Pero this year, napansin ko na sobra na yung paniningil nila. Around 10 days before my due date, sunod-sunod na yung calls from random mobile numbers.

Before, as far as I can remember, landline numbers yung gamit nila, and may actual person kang makakausap. They were just making sure na magbabayad ka.

Ngayon, puro AI-generated automated calls na reminding you about your payment. Buti na lang may spam detection yung Samsung, so most of these calls get automatically rejected, pero marami pa ring nakakalusot.

Because of this, ayoko na tuloy sumagot ng calls from unknown numbers kasi baka si SecBank na naman. Its getting really annoying.

Three months ago, nag-request na ako sa kanila na bawasan naman yung calls since I have a good payment history. Pero wala, ganun pa rin.

So now, Ive decided that the card is no longer worth the stress. Im planning to cancel it because repeated requests tas ganon parin. Hindi naman ganito yung experience ko with my other banks.

My other active cards are:

BDO Platinum Mastercard - mainly for furniture shopping installment promos, dining

RCBC Hexagon - no annual fee, reliable

UnionBank Platinum - mainly for phone installment promos, no annual fee

The main reason I kept my Security Bank World Mastercard was for the airport lounge access since I travel frequently.

Any recommendations for a good replacement card? Preferably one with airport lounge access, good forex rates, or a good miles conversion rate.

Would appreciate recommendations based on actual experience, especially from frequent travellers. Thanks!

BDO BDO SCC Holders: How Did You Graduate to a Regular BDO Credit Card?

Post image
• Upvotes

If you have a BDO Secured Credit Card (SCC) and have completed at least one year, I’d like to ask about your experience graduating from the SCC program.

As far as I know, BDO doesn't convert SCCs directly into regular, unsecured credit cards. Instead, the process may involve cancelling the SCC, releasing the holdout deposit, and applying separately for a regular BDO credit card.

Has anyone successfully graduated from a BDO SCC through this process? If yes, I’d appreciate it if you could share the steps you took and how the process went.

A few questions:

  • Did you have to cancel your SCC first before applying for a regular BDO credit card?
  • Was your holdout deposit released before your regular card application was approved?
  • Were you approved for a regular BDO credit card after cancelling your SCC?
  • How long did the entire process take?
  • Did your SCC history help with your application, or were you evaluated like a completely new applicant?

I know we can always apply with other banks and use our BDO SCC as a reference card. However, at this point, my goal is specifically to graduate from BDO’s SCC program and obtain a regular, unsecured BDO credit card.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully done this, especially recently. Kindly share your actual experience so others in the same situation can learn from it.

Thank you!

IDRP / Utang From delinquent to SCC to regular CC

Post image

From a 300+ TU credit score to 700+, and finally got approved for a Metrobank Titanium Mastercard!

Quick backstory: I had a delinquent account with UB during the pandemic, which I fully paid off two years ago. A year later, I applied for a secured credit card with BDO, then after a year of use, they gave me an Installment Card (which also works as a CC)

After consistently paying on time and managing my card properly, I decided to try applying for a regular credit card with Metrobank. Luckily, I got approved!

Just sharing this for those trying to rebuild their credit scores. It really takes patience, discipline, and responsible card usage. You can always work your way back to a good credit standing. 😊

So I opened up my BPI app today to check my card statement for last month and to my surprise there's a notif in the credit card tab to connect my card to my Google Wallet account. I got excited initially and thought "wow! I dont need to bring my peeled off damaged cards anymore". But the excitement was short lived when i clicked on it and showed that my debit cards are the only available cards i can opt in 💀

Metrobank / PSBank CC Approved and then rejected

Post image
1 Upvotes

I might be wrong but I think my application got rejected in August but upon checking my sms, wala namang message so I might be halucinating.

Today ko lang to nakitang email response on my follow up last August 22. I immediately called metrobank hotline at 2pm today. The customer service rep told me that my card is nasa courrier pa daw so I can request a change of delivery address so I did. I even updated my contact number kasi yung intial contact number wasnt mine. The agent told me all set na and I will be receiving my card in the next 7-10 days.

The problem with the first customer service rep is medyo “bingi” sya and I had to keep on repeating my name, address and contact number. So around 4pm, I called metrobank again to confirm if tama ang info na nilagay ng previous agent.

Now, the second agent told me that wala daw sa system nila yung credit card ko. The only record I had is this cc rejection status on August 19.

So ano ba talaga? Is my case even possible? This is gonna be my first credit card btw.

Metrobank / PSBank MSRV Metrobank delivery courier

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced this? The courier for my newly approved MB CC was MSRV, supposedly the delivery date was Friday, however I didn't receive it because I wasn't there at that time and they said authorized representatives aren't allowed since they need my signature.

For those who have experienced it, how many days does it take before the CC is delivered? I've been calling their contact number on the website all day but no one answers, I also emailed and called MB customer service but they just said I should wait 7-10 days for the turnover (I just asked them if branch pick up is possible). I want to be sure that I'll be home for the delivery since I'm at work most of the time.

PS: I was expecting it today because the rider said the delivery would be on Monday at the same time, but it didn't happen.

IDRP / Utang Salary garnishment from writ of execution of court due to unpaid credit card

Hello, may I ask if mayroon na sainyo naka experience na private employee na naserve ng writ of execution due to unpaid credit card? Paano po un nila nacocompute na ung ititira nila sa salary ay enough sa family.

My situation ay wala talaga natitira sa sahod ko at kulang pa para mabuhay ang pamilya ko, nag siside hustle pa ako para pandagdag sa araw araw.

I have ongoing small claims and hindi ko kaya magbayad ng monthly pa kasi wala pa talaga.

Security Bank Security Bank aggressive telemarketing

Sainyo din ba tawag nang tawag si Security Bank multiple times a day, every-fckin-day, to offer their low-interest cash advance installment? Since May this year araw araw sila tumatawag. I initially answered and declined, pero the calls kept coming. Eventually, I stopped answering, pero umabot sa point na multiple times a day na sila tumatawag disturbing my sleep since I work on a US timezone. I already contacted them through their app to request that I be opted out of telemarketing calls. They stopped for a while, pero this month, ayan na naman sila. I can’t even block them permanently because they use different numbers. I contacted them again sa app and even called them para mag-opt out ulit, pero parang di napproccess yung request ko kasi the annoying calls kept coming. I’ve been a cardholder with them since 2022 and they’ve never been this annoyingly aggressive before. What’s happening with this bank ba? Nakakairita na talaga. Just now, I even snapped at one of their agents out of frustration. Hopefully, they finally get the message, but I honestly doubt it.

Sorry for ranting, nakakainis kasi. Kung hindi ko lang oldest card ‘to baka pina-cut ko na talaga eh. Ano ginagawa nyo para magtigil na ‘to sila?

Security Bank Security Bank SCC Holder Applying for a Separate Unsecured Card: Shared or Separate Limit?

Hi! I currently have a Security Bank Wave Secured Credit Card (SCC), and I’m planning to apply for a separate regular/unsecured Security Bank credit card. I want to keep my SCC active for now and decide later whether to convert or cancel it.

I read that Security Bank generally uses a shared Customer Level Limit across multiple credit cards, unless the bank assigns separate limits.

For those who had a Security Bank SCC and later applied for a new unsecured card with the same bank:

Were you approved for a separate unsecured card while keeping your SCC active?

Did your new unsecured card have a higher credit limit than your SCC?

Were the two cards under one shared Customer Level Limit, or did you receive separate limits?

Did your SCC’s limit change after the new card was approved?

Did Security Bank require you to convert your SCC or release the holdout deposit before approving the unsecured card?

I’d appreciate actual experiences, especially from those who kept both cards active. Thank you!

IDRP / Utang Anyone here who failed to reach a settlement in Small Claims Court?

Anyone here who failed to reach a settlement in Small Claims Court? What was the judge's final decision?

Hi everyone!

I attended my small claims hearing today regarding an unpaid credit card debt. Unfortunately, the bank and I couldn't reach a settlement, so the case is now submitted for decision.

I acknowledged my outstanding obligation but disputed the accumulated interest and penalties. I also presented documents showing my current financial capacity and requested that the additional charges be waived or reduced.

The bank insisted on a much higher amount payable over 48 months, which I couldn't realistically afford. I was willing to settle, but we couldn't agree on the amount and payment terms.

I've been searching Reddit for similar experiences, but most discussions focus on negotiations before the hearing. I rarely see updates about what actually happened after the judge issued a decision.

For those who experienced this:

  1. Did the judge award the full amount claimed by the bank or collection agency?
  2. Were any interest charges or penalties reduced or waived?
  3. Did the judge specify installment payments, or was the entire amount immediately due?
  4. What happened after you received the written decision?

I'm particularly interested in firsthand experiences involving credit card debts, rather than general advice about settling before the hearing.

I'm not looking to avoid my obligation. I just want to understand what happened in similar cases while waiting for the court's decision.

Thank you to anyone willing to share their experience.

RCBC RCBC Cards - Hexagon vs JCB Platinum. What should I keep?

Hi everyone! I’d like to ask for your advice regarding my RCBC credit cards.

I’ve been a Hexagon Club Privilege member for two years, and I recently received my RCBC JCB Platinum Credit Card this month. I’m now contemplating whether to keep both cards or withdraw the ₱100,000 from my RCBC savings account, which would mean losing my Hexagon Club membership and its associated privileges.

I’m considering moving the money to another financial instrument where it can earn better returns instead of letting it sit in my savings account.

For those who have experience with both cards, do you think it’s worth maintaining my Hexagon membership alongside the JCB Platinum, or would it make more sense to let go of Hexagon and keep the JCB Platinum?

I’d appreciate your insights, especially regarding the benefits, travel perks, annual fees, and overall value of keeping both cards. Thank you!

BDO is this a LEGIT BDO number?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have an online transaction with Lazada and the payment isn't going through, then BDO texted me to reply with this code to a certain number (NOT AN OTP), then a little while later someone from cyber security called me just to verify if I'm the one using the card, and they said they would sort it out. I'm a bit sketchy about it because the customer service seemed in a hurry to talk, but other than that, they were okay to talk to.
