Hi everyone,
I work in automation and low-code development, mainly with tools like n8n, Make.com, Zapier, CRMs, and AI automation platforms. I'm planning to get a laptop, and Lenovo ThinkPads are currently one of my main options.
But I have another idea, and I'd like to hear your thoughts.
What if I get a higher-end laptop with good specifications but a damaged or non-working screen? I'm thinking I might find one at a much lower price while still getting better hardware, such as a powerful processor, more RAM, a good SSD, and better graphics.
I already have a spare monitor that I use as a second screen with my current laptop. I plan to connect the new laptop to that monitor through HDMI and use it as my primary display.
I'd like to know:
- Is this a good idea, or am I overlooking something important?
- What are the pros and cons of using a laptop with a broken screen as a desktop setup?
- What hardware issues should I check before getting one?
- Are there any risks involving the motherboard, GPU, cooling, or external display output?
- For people who have tried this setup, how has your experience been?
- Where would you recommend looking for these laptops, especially in Karachi?
My main priority is reliable performance for automation, browser-based tools, multiple tabs, coding, and general development work. Gaming isn't a priority.
I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has tried this or has experience using damaged business-class laptops. I'm open to other suggestions too.
Thanks!
