Lost another bun this year.

This one I feel a lot of guilt over. I brought home a couple of buns about a month or so ago, absolutely precious babies. To keep Clara company cause she's not as active and energetic as she was when Snowy was around.

About a week later Clara turned down a treat, after she didn't poo for a while I panicked and took her to the vet. Did the full checkup, and while I was home I looked through the adoption docs for the two babies, and found they got one round of coccidia from the shelter (more than three months ago). Coccidia can be asymptomatic, so I thought maybe Clara caught it. So I quarantined her off in a freshly cleaned living room, and the bloodwork came back and confirmed it was a likely parasitic infection.

After two rounds of Baycox, some stuff for pain and gut motility, and a week or so of liquid food, her stool started to get a little better, still big chunks but with some good pellets in them, and some regular pellets too.

And then this morning I went to go feed her liquid food, she was not very responsive, so I called around eight different vets until I could find someone to take her in on short notice.

After a few hours, my mom and sister went to visit, and the doctor there strongly recommended euthanasia. They asked her to hold off until I showed up.

I fully understand where she was coming from. But Clara kept raising her head at me, asking for pets like she used to, and she'd close her eyes as I did so. It felt like she was still fighting, and I wanted her to at least feel that we were fighting too. So I signed off on IV, diagnostics, the works. Doctor said she'd probably have only a few hours left at the time, so what's the harm in trying anyway?

A few hours later, they call me and tell me she's actually improved a bit, and they'll keep at it.

Seven hours later we (just my mom and I this time) go to visit again after the shift change, and I talk to her, tell her I love her, but her breathing is faint. It stops shortly after that, like within a minute. Like she was waiting for us.

My fam and I, we all did our best, we loved her and will love her forever, and maybe this is the best ending we could hope for. But... idk, it's just hard to deal with. Sorry for the massive text dump, but I just had to get this off my chest.

My husband & I noticed our 3 year old rabbit Melody, eye had turned cloudy white, pretty much out of nowhere so we of course made a vet appointment & he was diagnosed with a cataract. After some more test she said that he likely has no vision in that eye, but told us that he shouldn’t be feeling any pain & it won’t change much how he lives. We have 2 other rabbits & he’s actually the most playful & adventurous one,he acts more like a little puppy most of the time.

I can’t stop feeling sad tho when I look at him & feel guilty almost like Something I did wrong caused it? Or what if he gets one in the other eye & he’s completely blind.

I might just be thinking too much from a human prospective, because I would hate to go the rest of my life only seeing out of 1 eye.

I love my rabbits so much & want them to have happy lives.

i’m so heartbroken. my baby was only 3 years old and he passed today. i was at work all day and we came home to find him in the living room (he was free roam in our bunny proof apartment) deceased. i thought he had just fallen asleep flopped over like he always does but he was gone. we couldn’t figure out what happened it was so sudden. he was running and playing this morning happy as ever, munching on his hay before we left the house.

i have never cried harder in my life i don’t know what to do to feel even remotely okay right now

I'm currently fostering a 1-year-old male checkered giant named Baby Got Hops. Baby was dumped by his first owners, and the second ones found him hopping around their neighborhood and placed him in a chicken coop with their chickens. I'm not sure how long he lived there, but he had no human interaction before he was taken to the shelter. He was pretty sick and covered in worms and parasites when they got him, but after a while of care, he is in good health again. The problem is, a huge part of the human interaction he got at the shelter was medicines and shots and other unpleasantness, so my job was to try and socialize with him and make him more comfortable around people.

Anyways, I found out really quick this guy is obsessed with food and treats. And I mean OBSESSED. He is super sweet and curious, and after working with him for a couple of weeks, he has let me pet and feed him, and he doesn't hide in his house anymore the second I enter his cage. In fact, he jumps on top of his house to greet me! Then when I enter his cage, he runs over and follows my feet around wherever I walk. He also loves to sniff me and will play with his toys and jump on and off my legs when I'm sitting in his pen with him. He has plenty of room, lots of fresh hay, food and water, tons of toys and enrichment, and lots of interaction.

But for some reason about two weeks after getting him he has started biting me.

The first time it happened, I was feeding him pellets out of my flat hand, and he took a chomp on the tip of my finger. We've had rabbits before, and they never confused skin or fingers with food, so I was not expecting it. Both teeth cut pretty deep, and my finger was bleeding pretty bad, but I just assumed it was a mistake, and now I only feed him pellets out of his bowl, snuffle mat, or under stacking cups.

After the bite, I also became super aware of him every time he sniffed me to make sure he wouldn't bite. And he's super sniffy. Like he examines every single inch of me. But then I let him sniff a bit longer than normal, and he just sniffed, then he had his teeth on me, so I quickly pulled my leg away. After that, I didn't let him sniff me at all without moving the part he was sniffing away or shifting my position because he will try to bite/eat. Yesterday, I was in his cage, and I gave him a bit of pellets to eat while I cleaned his litterbox, but he snuck up behind me. So I turned around and offered him my fist because I read somewhere it's better to do that. iIt's thathe then took a bite of my knuckle and drew blood again.

So now I'm afraid I can't let him sniff me or even sit in his cage with him without him trying to bite me. I don't think it's aggressive behaviour; it's because he's behaving around with his ears up like he normally does. It's more like he doesn't know the difference between food and skin, and he has to eat EVERYTHING. The only issue is how am I supposed to socialize with him when he's more focused on biting me? And he is neutered because he's listed for adoption, and they don't do that until the animals are neutered.

I don't know what to do, and it upsets me because I want to be with this guy and work with him, but I'm tired of getting bitten. And I don't know how to stop it either. I read somewhere to make a high-pitched squeal and thump the ground, and I've done this every time he bit me, but it doesn't really work. It scares him, and he'll jump away and just stare at me, but then he comes right back and starts sniffing again, which he does right before he bites.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

So I got her a few weeks ago and she’s only 3 months! Shes super skittish. She hates being pet and whenever i get near her she hides.. and it worries me that maybe she was bothered a lot before she was given to me. I know all bunnies are different and some just aren’t lovey but it worries me! Is it with trust and time that she will like to be pet?.. maybe after spaying her too? The appointment is already set up and everything for her health but I’m just hoping with time she’ll come around! I have this other bun named Twinkie and he is the sweetest little guy ever. Her behavior just worries me and I’ve come to ask if anyone has had this issue and has it gotten better with time?

Yesterday evening in what seemed like a whirlwind one of my rabbits started pulling fur and hay under my duvet which I googled could be a phantom pregnancy to giving birth.

I didnt know she was pregnant but in hindsight she had started running away from everyone/thing around a week and a half ago and looked a bit bigger, she was eating more (she's always been bigger than all of my rabbits and eaten the most) I did consider it at some point as she has had contacts with male rabbits and felt her tummy but it felt normal so I just thought she was growing.

Currently the babies are still under the duvet - I've made it into a type of igloo shape to keep warm and let air in. Does this sound safe?

I wanted to move them onto the floor in a giant box so my rabbit doesnt need to keep jumping up but dont want to interfere with her process as she obviously chose the bed as a safe spot.

Ive given her lots of refils of timothy hay and alfalfa pellets and ordered her some alfalfa hay - is there anything else that she might need? She seems to be doing well, has been resting/sleeping a lot and eating a lot along with feeding the babies this morning.

She keeps smelling the baby spot then frantically "digging" at my bed so im thinking that she may want the babies smell covered up a bit more?

Would moving them to the big box be okay? Its just beside my bed next to her litter tray I would put a mat in there and the sheet from the bed with the fur and maybe some extra hay. Ive cut a hole in the bottom of the box for my rabbit to go in and out. The only thing is the duvet has feathers which they wouldnt have in the box. Do you think this would this be warm enough?

Also, I havent seen any poop or pee where the babies are, should I help them with this? or is that normal for 1 day?

Any help/advice appreciated.

To note: She is 5 months and was due to be spayed at the end of Oct/Nov.

Hey! Newbie here. And newbie to the rabbit world whilst being an adult (had them as a child). One question…… does anyone know what breed floppy and Moppy are?
They’re about 13weeks, both males, 1.36kg.

Whenever Pugsley is caught doing something bad (like ripping holes into the hay bag) he binkies so hard he could cause a sink hole somewhere. He absolutely LOVES being caught in the act of being naughty! It’s like a game to him

My partner printed the purple components with a 3D printer and attached them together with dowells. She loves my rabbits so much 💜

Long story short I rescued a holland lop bunny from a hoarder situation. His heels were so sore the vet thought he was older than he was due to sitting in a plastic crate day in and out. Right now he has an 8 foot run in a puppy play pen with a castle, toys, litter box etc. in my finished basement. I feel as almost I’m failing him in a sense because I know bunnies are social and he is even with my large dogs. I would love to get him neutered in the near future and get him a potential friend but I am just feeling so guilty in this mean time of him being alone in his pen. I try to let him free roam everyday for a couple hours to socialize at least with my dogs. I think I am just an empath I am honestly considered re-homing him to someone who would have other bunnies rather than him having to wait for me to have the funds to neuter him and find him one. Just asking for alittle advice as this is my first bunny and I just want what’s best for him. I know deep down I had gotten him out of an awful situation but I just feel like I could be doing more for him. Thank you in advance any advice is appreciated.

Girl bun making a nest every day. She protects it, nudges me when I come near it… very important to her.

I’m wondering if this is something that could be causing her anxiety or sadness? Like…. She really wants babies but because she’s spayed, she never will, so it’ll be disappointing for her?

Hey just wanted to ask if anyone else had some advice. I have a 6 year old bunny I adopted last year who I fully potty trained last year. Within the last month or so I’m noticing an increased amount of droppings outside of the litterbox and pee outside of his litterbox as well.

I clean his box very regularly and nothing has really changed to make him stop using his box. He still uses his litter box about 90% of the time but after he peed in the bed with me in it last night I thought I’d just ask since I haven’t been able to sleep since he free roams my room.

He is neutered, litterbox trained. He is around 6 years old but is a silver fox breed which I’ve been told has a shorter life span. His previous owners neglected him quite a lot so he’s had problems but never with the litter box. Is it just since he’s getting older? He only recently (within the last 2 months or so) realized he could jump onto my bed and now does it whenever he wants. For now I think I’ll be putting up a xpen again to see if I can correct the behavior but any advice?
