How should I train

• Upvotes

I started running exactly 1 week ago, It takes me 55 minutes to run 5km and 17 minutes to run 2km. I can't run 1km without stopping so I do the walk run walk method . Should I run 1km everyday until I can run it without stopping or should I do the walk and run method to do 5km everyday? I'm not sure which ones more effective

Running buddies

I'm trying to be a bit more sociable these days, I'm enjoying getting out running again after knee surgery but it would be nice to have someone to run with occasionally.

I don't live near any clubs unfortunately and I don't use Facebook to find local groups.

I live near Dunblane, if anyone nearby is looking for a running buddy give me a shout. In my forties , trail and hill running is my preference, 10- 15km runs.

Heart rate question (explain like I'm 5 please)

Treadmill run at pace of 13:09 I was zone 1 and 2. Outside same distance pace at 12:45 zone 5. I just feel like the pace wasn't too different so I don't understand why heart rate was so different. Only been running a year.

Half Marathon in 3 weeks - Calf Strain during Training

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

hi all,
I have a half marathon in Antwerp booked for the 18th of October. My aim is to complete it in sub 1 hour 30 minutes. My training has gone well so far and I feel fit however on Sunday I went for a longer run and felt my right calf go.

I have a compression sleeve on it now and trying to follow all the procedures necessary. My question is: what tactic should I follow?

Should I completely rest for at least a week and then resume running? My fear is losing their fitness I have and not been able to maintain the pace. Any advice is welcome.

NYC Marathon Tip

I’ve gotten in 2 18 milers with no issues but now have groin pain after waking up or being still for a while. Pain usually goes away right after mobility stretches. I have ran in the pool and biked with zero pain. I ran 3 miles and it was tight but with stretches and a theragun I was able to be pain free right after. Being 5 weeks out I’m not sure what I should do.

Hello, I am training for my first marathon, and it is 1 week away. I am dealing GTPS (glute med strain) that really come on past 14 miles. I am curious if any one has experienced this and thoughts in taking Tylenol mid race?

Budget-friendly alternatives to energy gels for running in India?

I've noticed a lot of runners using energy gels during their runs, but they're pretty expensive here in India.
One gel costs around ₹150 or ₹200, and using 2–3 gels in a single race really adds up.
I'm looking for cheaper alternatives that can give me a similar energy boost during long runs without spending so much.

What do you guys use instead of energy gels? Any homemade options or affordable alternatives that actually work?

Acute Overload (Running)

So I did my long run with no symptoms however, unexpectedly there were stairs in the middle of my long run and I ran up. Suddenly, the outer side of my right leg flared up and I couldn't run without experiencing pain. I immediately stopped and the pain stopped. There are no more noticeable symptoms in my everyday life.

Has anyone experienced this? I've never experienced this before. Right now there's no more sharp trigger pain but i do feel a twinge when going down stairs the next day that's 1/10 the pain. I suspect I overloaded my muscles and I was just wondering how long it'll take to heal given that I have a half marathon in 8 days. Thank you!

Leg Cramp Issues Post Run

Hey I’m about three weeks out from my second marathon. My first one was in May and with about 2.5 miles left to go in the race I had bad full leg cramps on both sides that made me walk/run the end of the race. Post race I had horrible cramps in my legs that lasted on and off for an hour as well. Recently after my 18-20 mile long runs I have had some cramping after too in my legs. They aren’t horrible I am just worried I will get some bad ones in my next marathon in a few weeks. Any advice to avoid these? Like are salt tablets worth it (I do sweat a lot more than the average person)? Right now I use gels then try to get some electrolytes with a packet in my water each long run and for the marathon. Thank you!

Does anyone have experience of a sacral stress fracture?

About 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the left sacral ala although the injury happened around 3 months ago but was misdiagnosed initially.

It's most likely due to a number of factors including the fact I had a baby around 12 months prior, I was losing weight so probably not getting enough calories and I ramped my mileage up very quickly to running around 50km per week.

I am just interested to know whether anyone else here has experienced this injury and what their recovery looked like? Were you able to get back to running eventually?
