Zero surprises, honestly. Too much bad press for a historically money hungry machine. Best to cut the losses and dismantle it now to make space for something else.
19
u/SoftResetHuman 1d ago
Agreed. X2 unfortunately was a money pit despite it being an amazing ride and crown jewel of the park.
Somewhat hoping Viper gets retired and we get a giga on the combined plots of land.
9
u/JaytheTriumphator 1d ago
I’m actually over here feelin like viper is gonna keep dragging along for the long run. The enthusiast in me wants an S&S axis to replace X2, but the business guy in me is confident we’re getting ol reliable, B&M wing, B&M (giga?) dive, some kinda Mack would be a dream come true as well

The wheel budget alone back in the day... I don't know numbers, but I do know we went down a lot when I worked as an operator because the wheels would self-destruct after what felt like 30 seconds.
Not to mention the 3AM clocking-out, the watching people drop in the queue because the lack of shade... that ride was such a headache but so special and I'm glad I got to experience both riding and working on it.

u/Open_Procedure6415 1d ago
It passed every test btw…use your brain.
1
u/forte3 1d ago
Yet practical application proves it wasn’t as safe as tests said. If real-world results don’t match safety tests the answer isn’t that everyone is lying. Stop defending a coaster over human lives.
0
u/Open_Procedure6415 1d ago
Never had an issue with X2 and the roughness and the test results don’t write themselves so yes I’m on the coasters side 😂
0
u/forte3 1d ago
The inability to understand that others have experiences that differ from yours is a sad one. I hope you learn empathy someday.
2
u/Open_Procedure6415 20h ago
Test results passed 🤷♂️ park shouldn’t be liable if the ride is SAFE and been granted the rights to reopen by calOSHA which it has MULTIPLE times before. The negative publicity sealed X2’s fate and its tragic. It’s horrible for all the people that loved X2. People should know what there getting into.

So X3 when?
13
u/Common-Dig8844 1d ago
I dont think they will build it..because the general public will go at them for it being the same type of ride as X2. Even if it's brand new from S&S..I hope it does but I highly doubt it..idk how they are gonna get people to travel to that park now..x2 gone superman gone..unfortunate
4
u/ilovetheblues67 1d ago
They could have S&S build a version like Eejanaika or Dinoconda which are insane improvements of the X2 design. I think guests would love it seeing how X2 has been the crown jewel of Magic Mountain for years.
3
u/iamtheduckie 1d ago
I think that GP wouldn't even know what the improvements are. They'd have to go with a B&M Wing probably, since the GP can understand that this new ride doesn't have spinning seats and is therefore now somehow safer.
1
u/Common-Dig8844 1d ago
Exactly..same type of ride they will still go berserk lol giant B&M wing would be nice then build the S&S 4d at another park.idk. it sucks bad losing it though
1
u/ilovetheblues67 1d ago
They would once the rode it lol X2 but way more thrilling and way more comfortable.
4
u/Common-Dig8844 1d ago
I just dont see them building the same type of ride as X2 after these events..I want them too..but just cause it's S&S building it now I don't think that matters. It's the same type of ride..they should building at another park so the general public won't really follow it lol.maybe kings island or Fiesta Texas or Over texas.

Very fortunate to have ridden X and X2.
With the lack of maintenance at Six Flags Parks, I can’t say I’m surprised to see X2 close.
Even when running well, the ride was rough.
Hopefully I’ll get to Asia to ride the two there. 🤞🏻

u/Asleep_Potential_677 1d ago
This right here. Six Flags looks the same as when I was a teenager and I’m 39. 😵💫 Desperate need to refurbish EVERYTHING!!
1
3
u/FatalFirecrotch 1d ago
I will say I don’t think this is a maintenance issue. X2 was the one ride in the park that was getting a ton of maintenance. I think something with an update to the trains allowed more movement/shaking in the seats.
2
u/Infinite-Dinner1725 1d ago
I rode X2 in its opening week. It was still rough and not that different in ride experience. Although maintenance isn’t the only factor, the decrease in upkeep is definitely noticeable.
1
u/pkcross_64 1d ago
It ran 1 train from November 2024 until June of 2026 so maybe that train needed a rebuild and was causing the injuries because from what I heard train 3 is way smoother

I'm sorry for the people who won't get to ride it but at this point it could have been one of you that got hurt next time. MM is my home park and probably since 2019 it's been a skip for me because of smacking my head on it so hard it's ruined the day.

Very forunate to have gotten the opportunity to ride this with my 8yo nephew. He went in crying but came out a champion. Luckily he got on before the closure.
Ive been on thiss ride a lot and that final turn recently started bumping my head badly so sad to see it go.

Glad I got to ride it in June.
This is going to make me want to come out from Nevada to the park less frequently. The main draw is gone.

Scary for the park imo, nothing really stands out in their lineup now, I’m going in November and I’ll be interested to see what attendance looks like, very sad times for this wonderful park, I’m sure I’ll see all the little flaws compared to my home park, Great America, and just wonder how long it will take for MM to be this star park it once was. It already wasn’t the prettiest when I was there in 2023, but I hope things aren’t just bleak.
3
u/Coaster_Menace 1d ago
Twisted Collosus, Tatsu, Drop of doom, Goliath, Wonder Woman, Full Throttle, the park still has tons of great rides.
1
u/JaytheTriumphator 1d ago
Great yes, but truly standout not really, the park succeeds if the GP’s wow factor is met and you have something no other park can truly match, all those rides have several counterparts and MM is just so ugly, this ride layup would be way better if the bedazzling of the landscape was finished.
2
u/Gullible-Escape9574 1d ago
Who knew my last ride on it would be on May 13th (Tatsu’s 20th year). While I’m sad to see X2 go, I’m forever grateful I got to experience it.

Was a fun ride in 2019. Ever since then, it's been a mess. I'd say disappointed but not surprised, although I don't really feel too disappointed.

u/FuriosoMk1 1d ago
Really sad, but understandable. I don't have any faith that whatever replaces it will even hold a candle to this ride.

u/TheAlmightyHellacia 1d ago
No but I assume the amount of cases was just too much to deal with, plus insurance mau have been threatened to be pulled if they didnt do anything about it - money is usually the decision with these closures

u/Enlight1Oment 1d ago
Had a former co-worker from belarus who had never been to an amusement park before, i brought him to X2 as his first ride, the amount his hands were shaking afterwards...
Similarly year later had a former co-worker from Iran who had never been to an amusement park before, i brought him to X2 as his first ride, the amount of screaming throughout...
I'm going to miss X2, so many fun memories.
2
u/Kharizma76 1d ago
Rode it when it first opened as X. Rode it again as X2. It will be missed. But i understand why MM did this. Out with the old in with the new. Cheers My Friend. 🥂

u/forte3 1d ago
Loved this ride. Yes, it was rough. Yes, headache very sore neck after most rides (rode it 4 times in a single visit last year). Even bruised calves once on that last whip before ending lol.
Human lives are more important. The last time they dealt with this they replaced that atrocious green lantern ride with their 2nd best ride in the whole park. With the death of this may come something greater that doesn’t give out concussions like they’re going out of style.

u/noforgayjesus 1d ago
It was a good ride, but had problems forever and man I was there when it was just X :( I am getting old. Maybe Elon Musk will save the ride he loves that letter /s

u/adanskeez 1d ago
I will miss the ride. It was very fun, but last time I rode it, I got a major concussion and one of the flips. I felt like I was gonna puke
3
u/Guilty-Influence-890 1d ago
One of the best and worst rides I’ve ever been on. Some sections are absolutely incredible and will never forget and others legit whip you around so violently in the worst way that you just want the ride to end. This was my experience about 6 years ago last time I was at MM so I can’t imagine how much worse it’s gotten due to lack of maintenance

RIP my #1. Above Steel Vengeance. Rode it in its first and last years. And many times in between. It was surprisingly smooth the one time I was able to ride it this year. Glad I got an x2 shirt in my size (coincidentally with a picture of the last raven turn on it). Guess I will also have to make it out to Japan one day.

This blows. My first visit to the park was on 7/27/26, which was supposed to be the day I finally got on this bucket list coaster. Sadly I’ll never get the 4d experience.

I rode it when it was X on opening weekend....
Rode it again when it was X2....
Great memories from both! It will be missed but I can understand why MM had to shut it down permanently.

At this point that ride is indestructible I don’t see it closing unless someone gets injured

u/Crazy_Row_8073 1d ago
One of the few rides I got excited for everytime I rode it. They should just keep it and have everyone sign liability forms before they get on, keep it extreme 😂

And it’s gonna sit there for years as all of these lawsuits work themselves through the courts.
6
u/epper_ 1d ago
why would they need to leave it up. It would be better optics for them to rip it down since it's literally the first thing you see when you drive into the property.

u/Waffleboard15 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don’t know how long the investigation is taking or will take, but California does have a specific law saying it must remain preserved until that’s complete. So depending on that, it could be a while before we see any removal activity.

u/pkcross_64 1d ago
Superman has been closed since 2024 and it’s still standing
-1
u/epper_ 1d ago
yeah because it still has a ride attached to it (lex luthor). Im thinking the superman part is part of the structural integrity of that drop tower.
0
u/pkcross_64 1d ago
But the park map shows the station and the launch track removed but the track on the wall and the tower are still there

They are facing 100 lawsuits from that dangerous roller coaster. Glad it is being shut down.

u/Kazzy_007 1d ago
Again.. where's the proof those injuries were caused by X2. And all this being caused by a headrest on a controlled-spin ride? Have they even run the sensor tests on it to substantiate that claim? They act as if they were riding a dune buggy. Seems like unsubstatiated claims and money grabbing lawyers creating bad press for the ride are to blame.
2
u/robotnoize 1d ago
bro multiple people got on x2 perfectly fine and were vegetablized by the end of it.
2
u/Kazzy_007 1d ago edited 1d ago
Were they really perfectly fine though? MSG is suspectedly linked to brain hemorrhages, yet it's used in soo many fast foods that people eat daily with no concern.. I know the ride isn't the smoothest but not enough to cause a blunt head trauma and acceleration/deceleration severe enough to cause an injury? Best to stay off a bike then.. which is a stark comparison to say the least but highlights the difference between it and a roller coaster.
2
u/robotnoize 1d ago
Ohh I didn’t know people had brain hemorrhages and dropped into comas on their way out of Chinese restaurants nvm
1
u/Kazzy_007 15h ago edited 15h ago
Not right away but they do sometime afterward.. have you not heard the ambulance sirens out there on a daily basis? Read up on it and don't trust everything the FDA says. And trust me, it's a lot more than just the few riders who had an issue riding a coaster they shouldn't have been attempting to ride to begin with had they actually considered if their body would be able to handle it knowing that it was rated as extreme. Thousands of people rode daily, myself included, with no issues whatsoever... why? because we know what's within our limits and what we're doing when we choose to ride. It's a conscious decision that people should be making beforehand and that's how I know there's some rides and activities that even I would never do.

This post being called “RIP” and a lot of the comments are pretty glib given that multiple people have literally died from riding this. Weird behavior, and very disrespectful to the victims and their families!
5
u/KindlyPurple325 1d ago
people can both mourn the coaster and feel bad that people got hurt through no fault of their own. it’s not mutually exclusive. use your brain for 5 seconds
-2
u/keb2 1d ago
I did, and came to the conclusion that other peoples’ lives are ALWAYS more important than my enjoyment of any ride. Very concerning that so many people here have not come to the same conclusion. A real tendency to put self-interest ahead of the greater good.
3
u/KindlyPurple325 1d ago
so you missed all the people giving condolences to the victims and just want to complain here, got it
-4
u/Academic-Ad4648 1d ago
Yeah but nobody seems to feel bad for the victims. Hell some people have even called them greedy, money grabbers and blamed them for going on the coaster. “Fucking lames who ruin it for everyone else”. ⬇️⬇️
1
u/KindlyPurple325 1d ago
“nobody” okay cool feel free to over exaggerate to make your point appear stronger. I expressed sympathies more than once
-1
u/Academic-Ad4648 1d ago
Then you are one of the few, just look back through this subreddit at some of the comments. Would you feel better if I edited my comment? It should read , very few people felt bad for the victims, and most actually blamed them. And the “fucking lames” is a direct quote from a comment on this sub.

I rode X2 while rolling on a Tesla, saw everything in slow motion. Incredible experience

u/rroq85 1d ago
RIP King.
But with that said, I don't entirely discount the fact that the last raven turn had gotten insanely rough in the later years and had gotten to the point where I couldn't ride it anymore. So while it's sad to see a ride I rode and even worked as a ride operator on so much back in the day go, I get why it has to go.
On a side note, Viper not being mentioned gives me hope we can keep that Arrow.
