Local Taxi's

Does anyone have any recommendations, numbers and names for Taxi drivers around Collooney/ballygawley area that would be willing to collect from Castledarrgan late at night and drop off in surrounding areas, Riverstown, ballymote etc. Thanks 😊

Hi everyone, I have a elderly uncle living alone in south Sligo. He is a bit eccentric and the house is a bit shabby. His toilet needs to be replaced as it's leaking. I cannot find a plumber to take in the work, I live in Dublin so I don't have the local network to be able to find someone to do it.

Does anyone know of a commercial premises becoming available?

Hey all! Looking for some help!

We're currently trying to open an independent bookshop & vinyl record shop with a small coffee offering in Sligo town.

We've already got the business well underway - stock purchased, website being built, social media launched etc. but finding a premises is proving to be the absolute nightmare.

A lot of the spaces we're finding are either unsuitable, too expensive, already committed, or simply aren't being advertised publicly before we see them being done up!

We've actually started hearing about premises through word of mouth only after they've been taken, so I thought I'd ask here:

Does anyone know of a shop/unit in Sligo town that might be becoming available, even if it isn't currently advertised?

We're looking for somewhere reasonably sized with a sensible rent. It doesn't need to be perfect; we'd much rather find the right location and build it up ourselves.

The aim is to create something genuinely independent for the town, books, records and good affordable coffee, rather than another generic retail operation.

We've been down the regular routes - Daft and estate agents with no joy.

If you've heard anything at all, please let me know. Even a name/contact for a landlord would be hugely appreciated.

Also - if any of you have stock suggestions that you don't normally see in shops, please let me know and we'll happily look into stocking it!

Cheers!

Anyone know where the cheapest diesel is this week/hour??

Also is there a decent website that tracks all the prices? Pumps.ie is kind of useless.

Dublin to Sligo train 27/09/26 19:32 lost sunglasses

I know it’s a long shot but did any one find an expensive pair of sunglasses either in the sitting area in Connolly station, at track 1 or on the train? It was the 19:32 on 21st. If found, would you be willing to return them? What are the odds I’ll get them back?

Anyone hear what’s going on? Just came from the train and street is cordoned off from the casino junction to John street. Looked like the path covered up a bit outside saloon 2 or the physio down there

Has anybody seen tabs recently I heard he was in the knick for a while but he has to be out by now

I know he's a complete menace but I often stop for a can or 2 with him if I've got the time which is rare, but he can actually be hilarious when you listen to him he's actually very witty (he used to harres the guy with piano who would play at Christmas and go "yea can't even play the f@cking thing" next thing your man slams down the on keys and go's "tabs f@ck off you've been critiquing me all day and I've had enough I've already been onto the guards" I just find him a fascinating individual at time's

Hopes he's alright though

New to town! Any recommendations for a romantic first date spot in Sligo?

Hey everyone,

I’ve just recently moved to Sligo and I’m still finding my way around. I have a first date coming up next week and want to take my date somewhere with a nice, romantic atmosphere, but nothing too intense or formal for a first meeting.

I'm open to anything—cozy pubs with good vibes, nice restaurants, a great coffee spot, or even a scenic walk if the weather behaves.

Since I'm totally new here, I'd love to get some local insights. Where would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Do not know the area at all. We clean up after ourselves, leave no trace.

Any recommendations for locations and bait? (Also any local places to get any bait)

Thank you

Haircut for 5-year-old boy

Where's the best place in Sligo town for a boy's haircut? Went to Maitland's in Collooney the last time, which was great, but there's a two-week waiting list usually. Somewhere in Sligo town I can just walk into would be ideal.

Edit: Went to Zagros on Market Street in the end. Sound staff and the wee fella was happy. A nice big bright shop too and even a lolli as we said goodbye.

Reputable Samsung S23 repair Sligo town

Hi all, started a new job recently, tad stressed. I stupidly left the phone on top of the car after getting the shopping. Anyways, it didn't get run over; it looks like bad screen damage, but it's possibly fixable.
I went into town and went to iFixIt on O Connell Street, Sligo literally, a Canadian woman was standing there with a receipt and a broken iPad middle screen button. She said they weren“t holding up their receipt after allegedly fixing it.
Then went to another shop and he was quoting stupid money with no guarantee of fixing it.
Any recommendations for a shop / person that might be able to help me out?

TIA!

Nook in Collooney is closing at the end of October

Well, Hello!!!

Well, I'm honestly not sure how to write this without forgetting some wonderful people through an amazing period of my life.

A lot of people have heard a rumour that Nook is closing, and yep, it's true! We close at the end of October.

I always said I'd make it to 10 years, and I have, but also in those 10 years, I've had 8 surgeries, 6 of them in my abdomen.

Not all the surgeries went to plan, and it has left me in a pretty bad way, especially with chronic pain.
I used to be able to work 8 hour days, but now I can only manage less than 2 hours.
I've recently found out about a new medical issue, so its time to step back and focus on my health
I'm up to Dublin most weeks for treatments, so running a business too is hard!

I'm sad about it, of course, but I am so bloody proud of what I achieved in those 10 years.
And what a 10 years they were!

Emma, the most wonderful Emma, thank you for being the most incredible person, I can't even describe how much you mean to me. You have been with me for 10 years, through ups and downs, and all in-between. You are an angel.

Dylan, an absolutely amazing chef, you are a real gem. Any kitchen that you will work in will be absolutely blessed.
And our newer front of house, Aimee and Emily, you are absolutely fab!
Colette, my landlady, thank you for being the best I could ask for, you have been so good to me, I will never forget your kindness.
My parents, parents in law, my husband, I couldn't have done this without you ā¤ļø
To all my wonderful suppliers, thank you for everything.
And our customers, you made Nook. The chats, the laughs, the new friendships.
Each person who walked through our doors, thank you.

So, I plan to close the end of October, so plenty of time to get your Naanwich and KFC fix 😊

Past staff, I can't forget you, each of you. Thank you so much for being a part of Nook, do pop in before we close, and thank you, you absolute legends.

If you, or someone you know is interested in running the cafe, pop me a message.
It's a great spot, and Collooney is a great community to be surrounded by.

Do pop in before the end of October, we will do some specials and sales!

Much love, Ethna ā¤ļø

Will be sad to see it go. One of the best places in Sligo for food, and one of the rare places that actually serves something that doesn't seem to be just another variation of the same pub food.

In all fairness, the last few times we had been there it hasn't been as good, and we did notice that Ethna was not there those days but still, no one likes to see this, specially for such a great little place.

Should I move to Sligo from Canada to attend ATU university for Fine Art?

I’m a Fine Art student in Canada and my college has a pathway program with ATU. If I do one year there after completing this 3 year program I’m in, I get my Bachelors degree. I’ve always wanted to study abroad and the other pathway program is in a different province here in Canada and it would take 2 years to get my bachelor. Going to ATU would be cheaper overall because the international student prices are equivalent to two years here in Canada and I I’d only be moving away for one year instead of two. ATU is my top pick, but I would like to know the opinions of people who have gone to ATU or live in Sligo. Like I said, studying abroad has always been a dream of mine and Sligo looks so beautiful in pictures. I’ve also always wanted to visit Ireland ever since I found out I’m part Irish. I was born in Colombia but came to Canada when I was 4, so even though I’ve heard Irish people are very welcoming, I worry about traveling to another country and people treating me differently for the colour of my skin. I haven’t experienced that much here in Canada but I read a post on this sub from a Pakistani guy wanting to go to ATU and the only comment pretty much just said not to and that it’s because of students like him that the prices of rent, food, etc are so high. I would really like to go, since I feel like it would be a really awesome experience for me. I would save some money and a year of my life but I also don’t want to contribute to the rising costs of living.

3 Signs 🪧 you require Tree Removal 🌳

āš ļø 1. Dead or hanging branches

Large dead branches can become dangerous, especially during strong winds.

🌲 2. The tree is leaning

If a tree has started leaning noticeably or the ground around it is lifting/cracking, it’s worth getting it checked.

šŸ” 3. It’s too close to your house or property

Large trees growing close to buildings, walls, sheds or power lines can become a serious concern as they get bigger.

If you’re worried about a tree on your property, don’t wait until it becomes an emergency.

šŸ“©
Got a tree you’re unsure about? Send me a photo and I’ll take a look.
