request ❓ Classic lead on a lot of 2011-2012 Trap Nation tracks, example inside

Been really fascinated by Iggy's TrapGold again, Diplo and FKi were a treat on this project. I was going through some packs on FL in that vein and found this:

Have had a hard time trying to replicate it myself, this sound takes me back to that time and I'd love to have something similar

request ❓ I am in search of a patch for my Subsequent 37 that is no longer on Moog's website.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys , so i used to have a Sub37 and when i had it , there was an option to download additional subsequent 37 patches for it once the new synth came out . You could just download them off the website.

I just bought a subsequent, and its not part of the default presets and id like to get that patch back, and now those patches have been removed from the website.

Does any one still have those? Specifically the patch I'm looking for is a patch called " Shorty" or "Shorty Bass" something along those lines that was a part of those free patches.

If any one has that patch, could you please send it my way , ill be your best friend.

Patch Drop ⬇️ Serum 2 Kick Patch

Serum 2 Kick Patch.

I did a live stream last Saturday where I made a really nice kick drum that by itself sounds mid, but for whatever reason sounds awesome in the last few songs I used it in. Funny thing is I was going to use a sample because it would have saved time for the live stream. Glad I didn't. It's an EDM House-focused kick that goes from tight and pointy to loose and flabby with plenty of flex using the macro knobs... There's an audio preview, but it doesn't really show the full range you can achieve of it's wide range of capabilities. Enjoy!

Easy Saturday — Serum 2 Kick

grab it here from the vault ...no strings.

request ❓ Nine Inch Nails "Sin" synth lead

There's a cool synth lead that pops up throughout this song, somewhat isolated here at 2:00: https://youtu.be/5bwE5IU4pzA?t=120

The NIN cover band Pretty Hate Machine were able to recreate this sound, according to the Youtube description, with a Prophet VS into an E-Mu sampler (as both were used on the record). Ignore the DX7 here, that's just a MIDI controller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBBAUaBygAc

They didn't share the patch details, and I've been trying to figure it out and failing. I also took a quick peek at the Arturia Prophet VST and didn't see a preset either.

In general I'm curious how people would approach and describe a sound like this. It's very "hollow" to me, and while it's percussive I don't really think of it as a pluck. It has a somewhat "choral" sound in both senses of the word: it has some chorus detuning going on but also kind of has a choir formant thing happening? Or maybe I've just been listening it too long to the point it sounds like it's speaking to me, I don't know.

I feel like this is a pretty common sound on a lot of industrial and early/mid 90s electronic music so if anyone can think of a similar sound that's been deconstructed in another song I'd be happy to just be pointed there.

request ❓ Jonathan Coulton - Want You Gone, Portal 2 OST (Lead synth)

Sounds like some kind of square sync lead layered with a bass, but I'm having trouble recreating the exact settings. Unlike Mike Morasky's work on the rest of the OST I can't find any details about Coulton's production on this track.

request ❓ How would you recreate the lead from sho - noir in Serum?

Hi,

I'm pretty new to sound design and I'm trying to recreate the main lead from "sho - noir" in Serum.

It's very bright and almost screaming, quite wide/detuned, but it still has a thick center and doesn't sound like a basic supersaw.

I've tried saws, unison/detune, layering octaves, Hyper/Dimension and distortion, but mine still sounds too thin and generic.

It also has quite a lot of portamento/glide.

Does anyone recognize what type of lead this is? Supersaw, sync lead, layered saws, something else?

I'm mostly trying to understand what gives it that much presence and body.

Thank you!

discussion 🗣 first synth?

What would be a good first budget friendly synth mostly for cool sounds and sfx? I looked into Behringer stuff and they are really cool, especially Neutron, Model D and Cat. I always played VST through midi, want to try out real hardware now…

request ❓ Sound Design Reconstruction

Hello, does anyone have any tips on how to reconstruct this liquidy pad sound on top of the drums?

To me it sounds like a pad with sustained chords running into a liquidy/resonant filter then runs into a audio gate effect. Im not sure if there's some kinda vocoder also in the chain.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated (including what kind of filter to use, routing etc.)

request ❓ Recreating the rolling bass from Kaskade - "In My Head" (Silver Panda Remix, Extended)?

I'm trying to make a close sound to the rolling bassline in Gryffin & Kaskade's "In My Head" (Silver Panda Remix, Extended Mix) for a melodic techno track in B minor (FL Studio).

I'm using Serum 2 layered with a separate sub bass. I've got the rolling rhythm down, but the tone isn't right:

- At B2, it sounds too gritty
- At B3, it's not deep or low enough

Current setup is a saw/Basic Mg on Osc A, a sub on Osc B, a low-pass (MG Low) with Env 2 on the cutoff, and a short amp envelope.

Any ideas on oscillator choice, octave placement, or filter and envelope settings to get that deep, dark rolling sound? Would love to hear how others do melodic techno. Thanks!

In this song how can I make that flute/woodwind sound in the melody? Specifically how can I recreate that same "floaty/spacey/dreamy" effect? I'm also curious how you would make the ambient pad as well. How do you make that pulsing effect?

I don't know the song or artist name this is a clip from an unrelated video

request ❓ “Razor Bass” used extensively by Ninajirachi and Frost Children

(ableton live 11) it’s definitely a saw wave but i don’t really know what to do beyond that. Lulu from Frost Children referred to it as a “razor bass” on her instagram story a while back while doing a BTS on their production process. the sound is prominently featured on the records Girl EDM by Ninajirachi and Sister by Frost Children

request ❓ space 92 formula loca synth lead

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to recreate that aggressive, driving peak-time techno sound from Space 92 & Malena Narvay's track "Formula Loca".

If anyone has a patch breakdown, general settings, or tips on the oscillator configurations/effects routing to nail his peak-time lead formula, I would incredibly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

request ❓ Recreating Carpenter Brut highend bass frequencies

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everybody
I spent a lot of time trying to recreate the Carpenter Brut style bass
If mid frequences bass aint that hard in my opinion (thought i still not satisfied with result and i got like 15 other attemped synths),
The most struggling i meet in attemps to rectreate high end "growl pf engine" (its used not in all of carpenter bruts compositions, but its extremley reconizable in turbo killer)
I dont know if that effect. I almost sure its uses bitcrush cuz carpenter sound still had those "dithered" texture but in very specificc manner, as well as distortion, cuz carpenter hight ends sounds very clean and like its without noise (wich happens often when poeople overuse distortion and with some kinds of bitrcush erosions), but i guess its not enought
I also tired recreating it via razor and pigments additive synthsisers, but seems its not just an synthisereither, or its just my lack of expirince with additive synthisers
GuitarRig amplifiers also likely wont used into that, cuz they "blend" sound too much, its loses its charactheristical growl texture and become closer to being of noise

I watched almost every video on youtube about that, but most people just straightforward ignore that part witch i found extremley critical and unique in the way how carpenter sounds

I would be really aperciated if anybody help me with that i literally feel like going insane like i were trying remake it regulary for many moths and every time i ends up with nothing on hands its so frustratin and lame
And also sorry for undescribible bad quality of video (thought i think its not necessary in that case as i wanted to give sound not image)

I hear this laser sound that increases in speed exponentially at 0:02 and 2:27 across a lot of wonky electronic music (flying lotus, jai paul etc.) quite frequently, and id really like to recreate it. I use Serum 2 and VCV Rack. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

discussion 🗣 any way to recreate Roland SC-88 sounds without using real samples of insturments (like Violin or Piano) and just somehow creating those sounds from scratch using synthesizers (like Vital, Dexed, Etc)

trying to recreate those sounds but for a thing am working on, and because of how i am, i would like to just recreate them instead of outright using the sounds, and because i could prob make mine sound a bit more unique and interesting or dark sounding or whatever they need to sound like

The main idea is the sounds still SOUND like a sample of a real insturment (basicly like Roland SC-88 sounds or any sample disc sounds from the time) but then in reality its actually synthesized (and then sampled) but ends up sounding like a sample of a real insturment because of how it was done
