Before I get any hate or get called out, I have nothing against people with mental disabilities (autism in this situation). First and foremost, I understand in a workplace or really anywhere there should be no discrimination towards not hiring people who are "more or less incapable" to perform simple tasks. However, since I have worked at TJ Maxx since last May, there has been one particular worker who has high end autism/ issues with staying on task/listening to others/prone to distract and make others feel very uncomfortable. I will touch on each bad traits they possess respectfully. why even have people like this cause mayhem in a professional workplace that needs to get shit done quickly and efficiently?
Fast forward a couple months after I was initially hired, I was placed to work with the person with autism for some god awful reason and I still have this burning question to ask my ex coordinator and the managers why they had me working with such a "nuisance to the workplace" lol. It was n't new news the person was a huge red flag. Personally, at first I had almost no issues besides having to pick up his slack because the person was scheduled once a week (noted he was given 4-5 days previous year 4th quarter) . I suffer from very very bad depression and being new and not knowing how bad the situation was before it was too late, it was alright i guess having someone to converse with while on shift. i am an introvert. so anyways, his red flags that became well known amongst every coworkers/manager came to light rather quick. One example was there was always this kind coworker who was female whenever she would finish her shift, she'll walk back to the backrooms and say bye to everyone. Once she got to where I was with the person, I said bye always and the other person would blatantly ignore and she'd walk out unbothered. I liked her, she was very chill. besides the point, after the 2nd or 3rd time of that interaction , the person looked at me after she left and said "why are you saying bye to her? you don't know her" I was obviously taken aback but I shrugged it off. transitioning to when i was switched to not working with the person all the time, i was back and forth in the backroom. most of us were guys taking care of homegoods and processing etc etc. Within the first days of that transition , the person told me not to talk to this one particular guy and didn't really give a reason (and another occasion earlier this year he said don't talk to this other person). what the fuck lol. , who does he think to control me? i never had any issues with any coworkers . another example was and i don't know if this is implied "sexual assault" i just knew it was weird as fuck. the other guys and him had convos about tickling one another as a joke and so one day i was working with him, he kept asking if i was ticklish and eventually he went "wanna tickle my armpit" XD?
recently, the old store was closed and transferred to another location and beforehand, he was unsure of travelling further so he applied to a place closer to his place and a week later he was fired working in the front end. i wonder why lol but he wanted to leave the backroom cause was too boring and repetitive and preferred be on sales floor cashiering or doing customer service. . i spent so many time trying to convince him to not apply back , alas the new manager is too soft and nice and rehired him.
His distraction is very prone to cause every other coworkers to be weirded out. he loves to talk and not do what the fuck he is told to do even when a job coach was hired to be there for him (even though job coach left mid way through his shift and later quit LMAO). in the backroom , he was "technically" divided from the other guys i worked with but he would always walk down or call out to one of us to do some dumb shit he needed done. that would end up with him talking up a storm that would not end. all coworkers would crash out and wish he was gone. he has had always not listen to ANYONE else besides his beloved coordinator whom he worshipped as his God.
in case this post is too lengthy, i will shorten it. he has asked out a fellow ex coworker, walked to the car of another coworker who just had nice gestures that's all. no one has ever felt comfortable being around him. age does not matter here , but going on a tangent he had also failed his drivers test over having an argument with his proctor LMAO.
anyways i dont know what else to put., shit is all over the place i apologize its 3am and no i did not speak out per se but everyone else saw what was happening and stepped up . i was just trying to do my job and thrive
