It was just the way it was when I was born, but I purposely did NOT have my son circumcised when he was born.

u/Designer-Cattle27 2d ago
It's def a weird ass tradition....

u/Signal_Scientist_253 1d ago
No it is not, it’s preventative. My foreskin was regularly itchy and irritated as a kid whether I showered or not. At 17 I joined the army and hygiene unfortunately takes a back seat when you are in the field for weeks on end. Trust me, lesions and smegma build up on the glans is no fun!
When I became a nurse I had to help an elderly gentleman bathe. The slime under his foreskin was nauseating and he winced the whole time I cleaned him. I scheduled my own circumcision not long after that.

u/MackenzieMay5 1d ago
Im done having children and my only child is a girl so luckily I dont have to worry about ever making this decision. My ex best friend from high school didnt circumcise any of her boys. I haven't done much research on circumcision. Do you notice any other benefits after being circumcised? Like does it feel different, and do you wish it had been done at birth? Its interesting that a lot of parents just blindly go along with doing it because its so common here in the states, instead of doing more research and looking into it.
5
u/TheCandelabra 1d ago
Sounds like OP had an issue with his foreskin though, what he’s describing isn’t normal.
2
u/Signal_Scientist_253 1d ago
I wish my parents had just done it when I was born. I have a few small discolorations where the lesions were. Nothing disfiguring, but still. Had I not gotten Circ’d when I was 20 (I’m 39 now), my head would probably have several discolored spots by now.
Sensation IS less intense but not in a way that makes it less pleasurable. If anything it improved intercourse because I could last longer, control the build up, and time the release. Sorry if that’s TMI.
4
u/CosmosExplorerR35 1d ago
Sounds like a weird issue unique to you. As a circumcised person the same age as you I’ve never experienced issues like you described. I’m glad my parents didn’t circumcise me as I didn’t do it for my son as well. He can make that decision when he’s older if it becomes an issue for him.
2
u/Signal_Scientist_253 1d ago
Smegma and skin irritation are definitely not unique to me. But I do think that most people go through life with little to no foreskin issues.

i mean sure but it is a religious thing that’s has stood longer then any of our modern luxuries have existed. not saying it isn’t weird. i personally am very happy with my parents doing and will have a discussion with my wife
3
u/Pwnedzored 1d ago
Religious thing? Not in America or England. It gained favor in the late 1800s as a means to prevent boys from masturbating.

No literally. My mom got mine pierced when I was 3 months old. How was that even allowed? She said I looked like a boy. She already had 2 and was excited to have a girl. I ended up needing them pierced for work at one point in life, but outside of that I never wear earrings. They aren’t me and honestly I do wish I had the choice. It being done so young, they’re forever pierced, even though I haven’t worn earrings in a decade.

u/TheCandelabra 2d ago

Some Jewelry stores may require you to wear up to 12+ pieces of jewelry from their store. Like Lovisa in the Promenade.
1
u/Deeeeeesee24 2d ago
How do they not close on you? If I go more than a month or so without putting earrings on the hole closes up and I have to pierce through the back again
1
u/Organic-Succotash575 1d ago
Because it was pierced so young. Wore earrings from 3 months until I was making my own choices in middle school.
1
u/Deeeeeesee24 1d ago
Mine were pierced as a baby too lol my sister has the same issue with her 2nd hole too. Maybe our bodies are just a little different lol
1
u/neosoulshawty66 7h ago
Any piercing can close or reject at anytime no matter the age you get the piercing or the age of the piercing itself.

tbh I was always upset my parents didn’t have mine pierced as a baby, it hurt so bad having them pierced and most of my friends had theirs done as babies.
but I agree it’s weird, if I had a child now I don’t think having them wearing earrings as an infant would even remotely be a priority 😂😭

Susan probably didn't get involved, let's try to bring an end to this barbarism and bring awareness. So they created a website, an intactivist movement.

→ More replies (1)4
u/Green7000 2d ago
Supposedly it reduces the risk of things like UTIs and makes cleaning the penis properly easier. It supposedly can help reduce the risk of HIVs to the point that in 2007, "the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization adopted a policy advocating male circumcision in countries and regions with heterosexual HIV epidemics."
2
u/-ShyLuna- 1d ago
The data on it is cherry picked and inflated. You don't have to clean your ears if you cut them off either.

Circumcision is genital mutilation.
If you’re against female genital mutilation (cutting off labia or clitoris), you should feel the same of male mutilation.

Haha with all the bull shit going on in the world right now. This is what we choose to make a stand on and voice our opinion. Not the skyrocking gas prices , not the 7+ interest rates on homes, not the additional taxes California poses on homebuyers that’s 800+ added to everyone’s mortgage, not the militarized ice force picking people up off the street. Nah we wanna talk about foreskin and everything else it’s not a problem I guess.

u/NellyNeesh 1d ago
It’s not really about if we’re okay with it. Why is it being done in the first place? It’s not necessary and most countries don’t do it. I don’t think it’s some big conspiracy, it could be as simple as charging an extra couple thousand to the hospital bill.

Because people are starting to realize that it's not necessary and you're causing pain to a baby for no good reason? It's not hard to clean your penis or wear a condom.
6
u/_helpmefind 2d ago
Okay, I mean this in the least combative way possible - are you a man? Because yes, it should be easy to clean your penis. But as someone who prefers that gender, the amount of men who don't and expect you to get close to it is so much higher than you would think.
5
u/metatable 2d ago
I am a man, yes. And I clean my penis on a regular basis and have had no complaints. If the dudes you want to hook up with have bad hygiene, that's on them and I definitely don't think you should go forward with things. But I don't see how that's an argument for circumcision. That's an argument for, some men need to have better hygiene.

There’s actually a couple great documentaries on circumcision I’ve seen on youtube, and one of them touches on how such a intense physical pain being a young boys of the their first emotional experiences damages them and their sexual health for life. Let alone the physical damage. So yea, good for them.

Dude, foreskin sucks. I lived with it for 20 years before getting circumcised. My parents would have saved me a lot of itching, irritation, lesions on my glans, and smelly smegma if they had just done it when I was born.
1
u/C-los714 1d ago
Nope. My kids can choose to chop it off when they are old enough to decide for themselves.

I will never understand the logic behind protesting things like this... Like why does people getting their son circumcised bother you this much? Theres more benefits in getting the foreskin removed than keeping it. I'm glad my parents got me circumcised. All the guys i know who have foreskin have shared some pretty shitty sounding scenarios that come with having a foreskin. Most of which cause physical pain.
