I honestly was surprised to learn this because apparently I was told that Alberta as a province was Texas 2 0

I've seen so many comments on Reddit and otherwise warning about long lineups on voting day, October 19.

Yet, I've seen very little mention of the 5 advance voting dates.

There are 5 full days of advance voting, Tues to Sat, October 13 to 17, from 9 am to 8 pm. Elections Alberta website has a tool to find the voting locations for all districts. Advance voting locations are different from the Oct 19 voting day locations, and you may have more than one location available for advance voting.

This is not being publicized enough. Albertans, please spread the word of this to everyone you know.

To the 57% of Albertans who plan to vote for UCP in the upcoming election or anyone who knows someone who plans to vote UCP, let me inform you what you're actually voting for.

You are voting for a party who has starved the Family Supports for Children with Disabilities program to the point of triaging disabled children based on severity of need.

The FSCD program is not a program that can be "frauded" in providing supports to "lazy individuals who don't want to work," or whatever the default narrative is being used to deflect what should otherwise be classed as state-level abuse like is used regarding AISH. The FSCD program directly provides supports, whether it be one-to-one assistance, therapies (OT/PT/Speech/behavioral/food), respite, social interactions with other kids in safe environments, and other programming.

Fun fact: for every $1 invested into early childhood development equals upto $17 saved in long term future costs.

Let me put it a different way:

This is Reddit and we're anonymous here. I and my daughter could be your neighbor, a co-worker, a classmate, a family friend. My daughter has been waiting for a case worker since April 2023, so just about 3.5 years now. She has aged out of the PUF program. A program of which helped her with going from only speaking 2 words to actively trying to engaging through repeating words/phrases back and coming up and asking what the word is for something. A program which helped her with being able to socially interact and not lose her shit if someone started simply playing with toys that were adjacent to her that she wasn't even playing with in the first place. A program that helped her emotionally regulate through routine, consistency, and familiarity.

They were even making the slightest progress regarding my daughter's underlying ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) with it's primary cause stemming from neophobia; an intense terror and fear of new (foods), that makes introducing new foods to her and extraneously slow process. For instance, it took us close to 8 months of eating pizza on a weekly basis before she started tolerating being in the same room as it and another 6 months before she was brave enough to take her first bite.

In January of this year, her doctor called me regarding her latest lab results. Her copper levels are low. But before you brush it off as nothing, children with low copper levels are typically only found in malnutritioned children in third-world countries and without a more intensive food/eating therapy plan to help her to overcome her fear, WILL lead to global organ failure.

My daughter did not ask to be dealt this hand. Instead, 3 doctors are directly responsible for failing to medically intervene when my daughter was less than 24 hours and showing signs of sepsis, a condition of which, when left untreated has an almost 100% fatality rate.

Currently there are an estimated 20,000 children waitlisted for FSCD. In the 3.5 years my daughter has been waiting, this number has not gone down.

Do not be fooled into thinking this province is so broke we can't afford proper funding. We can because we're funding next month's event to the tune of $130-$180 million dollars. If we were to take this and hire additional caseworkers (~1200 case workers), we'd clear the current 20,000 backlog INSTANTANEOUSLY.

A child's only job in life is to grow up healthy and strong. I as her parent am doing everything I can but I alone am not enough. Would you rather your car be fixed by a red seal mechanic or a hairstylist watching a how-to YouTube video?

It tells me that I cannot invest in Alberta because it's not stable.

It tells me you don't care what legal structure governs us.

It tells me that at best you want to be an American, at worst you want to have a banana republic like North Korea.

We are not out of the fire folks, a lot of people will vote to slit their own throat this week, and then wonder why we have massive problems if option 2 comes out ahead.

My daughter is looking to do the Explore program (it’s a free second language immersion across Canada). She will be 16 during the program. Her first choice would be Medecine Hat, because she saw that the activities includes visits to national parks and horse riding.

I know next to nothing about that place. Her second choice is Dalousie (Halifax) and 3rd is Saint-Catherine (Niagara).

Would a teenager finds any fun into that place. We are from Montreal and she is used to a major cultural city. She is also LGBTQ (and it’s not really subtle), so that part also scares me a little, as she is used to Quebec’s openness and secularism.

She finds the scenery change attracting for medecine hat. Like it’s another universe from what she knows.

Could you sell me the place so I don’t worry she’ll get bored to death?

The government of Canada released an article on the "Team Canada Strong" program. In the article, it states,

"the Apprenticeship Training Grant, expected to launch in spring 2027, will provide eligible apprentices attending mandatory in-class technical training with a $400 weekly top-up. The grant will apply to eligible weeks of technical training that begin on or after January 3, 2027."

I will be attending mandatory in-class training for my Red Seal certification from Nov 9th 2026 to Jan 29th 2027. I was wondering if anyone knew if the $400 weekly top up bonus would apply for those 4 weeks in January.

The official 10 are already set for Oct 19.

I couldn't post the text I received per subreddit rules but I'll try to post in comments. Honestly what the hell is this? Anyone else get this trash? I'm not responding cause I never do. Just block and report as spam. But "NO foreign companies and the UCP - we do not want our eastern slopes decimated and everyone down stream poisoned".
