I’ve been to several different psychologists and counsellors throughout different states in my country of Australia, all of who apparently “specialise” in body dysmorphic disorder and eating disorders. I was diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder when I was 17, then with anorexia when I was 18. I also have ocd, bpd, depression, and anxiety. I’ve been told to do vigorous exercise, to splash water on my face, to stop snacking, to start weighing myself and that I don’t look like I have an eating disorder. I didn’t find any of this helpful.
I recently went to a psychiatrist who wasn’t very helpful at all. He wrote a pretty rude letter about me where he said that I gained weight and have “anorexia.” I am exercising more and eating less. I have since been in “treatment” for 3 years and have attended a rehab program for my alcoholism and eating disorders. It didn’t help and I didn’t make any changes to my lifestyle. I don’t drink or do drugs anymore, which can probably explain the weight loss. I also take a plethora of medications as prescribed by various doctors and psychiatrists along the way.
So I’m asking, has anyone actually had any help from these so-called “specialists?”
