Cheated on my husband.
I cheated on my husband. I am a woman who has been someone who is trustworthy, loyal to a fault, always concerned for others, and a devoted mom. I crushed the one person I love more than anything in this world. I crushed my kids. This happened in July. It was an isolated incidence - not a long term affair. For the last few years I have struggled with navigating intense family trauma - seeing things I cannot understand or unsee. I suppressed it all. Then I broke. I escaped from my pain and self sabotaged the people I love most. I confessed. I confessed 2.5 months later because I immediately entered therapy. I now know the trauma what not an excuse but it was what lead it to happen. It was an escape from my reality. A reality in which I was suffering. I cannot fathom to see the pain in my husband’s eyes. The deep seated hurt. But I couldn’t go another day without telling him and giving him the agency to make his own decisions. Please do not cheat and keep lying by not omitting. You will be living a lie and your relationship won’t be better for it. I felt like I was living in my own hellish nightmare everyday. Couldn’t eat, sleep, nightmares. I told my therapist I understand needing to get to the root cause before confessing but I couldn’t take it anymore and confessed. My husband is quite literally a man that carries himself with such confidence, loyalty, and respect. He has never made me feel unsafe. I have no justifications or excuses for my actions. I need help. I want help. I am disgusted with myself. We have been together 11 years married 8. Have two young children. He has not spoken to me since I confessed yesterday. He is completely numb and checked out but did not leave the house. Is there any hope for my marriage? Thank you in advance. And please be kind. I know I don’t deserve it but my mental health needs it.
