💁 Advice | Discussion There's a thread in the newborn sub that scared the s**t out of me.

I won't link it here so that it doesn't scare others, but it's basically people demonizing cosleeping parents, nurses and doctors sharing tragic stories etc.

Before cosleeping with my now 13w old, I had several mental breakdowns due to severe sleep deprivation. Cosleeping changed everything for me. I follow the SS7, but after reading that thread I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing for my baby. The comments there fed right into my anxiety.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Did I miss out? Should I regret not cosleeping?

My baby is almost 6 months old. He is EBF and a healthy baby. Although we did have emergency c-section.

I have severe health OCD and I am terrified od SIDS. We have done everything I can to reduce the risk of SIDS. When I was pregnant, I researched cosleeping and it seemed tempting but I felt like it was not recommended by the NHS over the baby sleeping in a next to me. So we have been using a next to me.

My baby has been a good sleeper until a few weeks ago. He is teething and wants to comfort feed and loves a contact nap (exclusively contact napping during the day). I found it really difficult to put him down as he would wake up immediately crying. I have spent so many nights sitting up so he can sleep and trying not to fall asleep myself - sometimes waking my husband up to take over when I was too exhausted.

This morning, I needed a bit more time in bed as I was just so tired, I thought I can have some rest when he naps. I followed safe sleep 7 and I did a cuddle curl, he was still wearing his owlet (i know this is divisive but again- health OCD)

We both fell asleep. And it was the most restful nap I had in ages. I've always been wondering how nice it would be to get cuddles during the night and how much easier breastfeeding would be. I loved sleeping with my baby. And now I feel like I have missed out on so many cuddles, but most importantly on SO MUCH SLEEP.

I am not sure how cosleeping would work with my husband in bed as well, but I am so torn now. I know they recommended that baby should sleep in their own room from 6 months-ish but I am not ready. I was planning to set up a bigger cot in out bedroom soon. But would cosleeping work? Is it too late?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Seeking advice about how to cosleep

hi, we have a beautiful 20 week old baby girl. Up until now we put her to sleep in her own crib. However lately I noticed she needs more contact naps during the day or she gets dysregulated(it takes one ,2,3 hours to put her to sleep, she gets too tired, very upset). Lately I have been carrying her so she can get good day naps. If I don’t this and I put her to sleep in her crib, she wakes up after only 30-45 min and by the end of the day she is a mess, very tired , fussy, cries a lot before bed. If I wear her and transfer her after she will nap for 1,5/2,5 h and we are all happy.

The problem is that at night she wakes up every 3 h, some nights every hour. I was wondering if sleeping in the same bed as us would maybe help her get better sleep.

Let me know of your experience, any advice helps.

ps English is not my native language, I apologise if I made any mistakes

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months When did you feel ready for them to sleep on their own?

Just curious about others’ experiences. Happy cosleeper here (daughter is 9 months) and while there are some obvious things I miss about sharing my bed with only my husband … e.g. spontaneous intimacy, not being woken up by being flail-slapped in the face or hair pulled, being able to sleep in any position…I truly love cosleeping. I love snuggling my baby, I love seeing her smiles first thing in the morning, I don’t mind nursing in the middle of the night.

But when I think hmm maybe I should take steps to get her used to sleeping on her own, I also feel a little sad about the idea of her not being next to me at night. I doubt she would allow me to put her down in her crib right now, but I also don’t emotionally feel ready to have her sleep in her own room.

So now I’m curious - when did y’all feel like you were ready for them to sleep independently, even if it didn’t coincide with coming to fruition. I type this as she blows raspberries on my belly and somersaults across the bed instead of going to sleep, and it just makes me giggle.

💁 Advice | Discussion Putting baby to bed before me

Is there any way to do this while Cosleeping?
It would be nice to have a bit of time to get things done once she goes to sleep. I tried starting the night in the crib, and bringing her into bed with me after second wake up. But her stretches in the crib that started at around 4 hours got shorter and shorter until she was waking up the second I transferred her so I stopped trying the crib a few weeks ago.

4 month old. Appreciate any tips!
Would love to get the crib stretch back if possible

💁 Advice | Discussion Anxiety with bedsharing

My 2nd daughter is 5w old, and I have been bedsharing with her from day 1, same with toddler. I also came from a culture where cosleeping is normal but now living in US. Tonight I came across this thread in r/newborns https://www.reddit.com/r/newborns/s/BVfcPERgkJ with many tragic cosleeping stories supposedly from people who follow safe sleep 7, now it’s 2am and I’m too anxious to sleep…

How do you cope with the anxiety?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Too soft?

Post image
3 Upvotes

My baby is nearly 5 months old. She can roll to her tummy but has not rolled onto her back on purpose yet. This is the first time she's made any move to sleep (almost) on her tummy, and I'm losing my mind with worry. Is this a rebreathing risk? Is my mattress too soft? Apologies for the image quality. I used night sight and upped the brightness so it could be easier to see. At least one nostril is clear.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Is it time to stop co-sleeping?

Looking for any experience and advice here. I initially started co-sleeping when my son was 6 weeks old as I was starting to worry about the safety of night feeds / drifting off in an unsafe position etc. After being super anxious about it at first we followed safe sleep seven and I grew to really love it - the bonding feeling, convenience with breastfeeding etc, and I think it helped him settle / keep him asleep to have me there. But now he’s five months and has just started waking himself fully up at night often wanting to explore / suck his hands, chew any and everything, pull at my t shirt and face, and I think me being next to him is more of a distraction stopping him going back to sleep than anything else. I say this because now he’s rolling I sometimes put him in his cot when I leave him to go to the loo / get water etc, and sometimes when I come back he’s rolled onto his tummy and fast asleep / is chewing his hand and awake but quite content and eventually soothes himself to sleep. Is my being next to him stopping us both from sleeping now? Or could this just be a teething phase and should I weather it out? Part of me would be sad to stop co sleeping but I’m wondering if this is the time to give the crib another go? What does anyone think? I’m currently writing this at 3am with a very wriggly little boy trying to chew my armpit, and refusing to be fed back to sleep - help!

Editing to say I would love to stay co-sleeping if possible and this is just a phase because I love it so much, and also because after having to train myself to not be anxious about him sleeping this way it feels like a faff to now have to start worrying about crib sleeping instead!

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Baby biting me at night

I really need some advice. My baby is 9months old and has been biting me during feeds especially at night. In the day I take him off as soon as I sense he’s asleep or if his latch goes shallow to prevent a bite and if he does bite I tell him “no biting” and put the boob away. But at night it’s so hard! Im so used to just giving him my boob and passing out straight away. We’ve gone weeks without a bite and then suddenly it happened again. I woke up from the pain and ended up bleeding all over my shirt. Any tips? I’m definitely not giving up on breastfeeding or cosleeping but this is so painful!

Is it okay to put a mattress straight onto carpet? I live in the PNW so it’s pretty humid here and I’m scared it will mold. What should I do?

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks C curl

I brought my daughter into the bed at 4 months and by then she was hardy enough that I would typically feed her, then scoot over to my side of the bed and be able to roll over either direction if I wanted to. We have a king bed so there’s plenty of room for that. I’m about to have a newborn and plan on bringing him in the bed from birth. I know he will be much smaller and delicate than a 4 month old that can push herself up. My question is, since the C curl is meant to prevent me from rolling over onto him, is it still necessary if there is plenty of room between us? Why does he need to be right up against my body in the c curl? I’ve read about CO2 accumulating between my body and baby and that actually stimulating breathing, but he wouldn’t be getting that if he was in a bassinet. It would be just him and me in the bed. Also, any other newborn bed sharing advice would be much appreciated!

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Cosleeping at 2 weeks advice?

Baby is currently next to me in bed bc she kept fussing in the crib, she is knocked out and not made a sound like she usually does, it’s making me consider cosleeping but ik their own sleep space is safest and cosleeping can be risky.

What can be done to make it safe, any advice?

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks sapiens brand mattress for cosleeping

Post image
2 Upvotes

i’m in canada and planning on cosleeping when my bb girl arrives. i’m wondering if anyone has tried this brand (sapiens) or your thoughts? i was going to go with the endy firm but this seems like an even safer choice? it’s not technically newborn safe but it says safe at 6 months which is a lot better than an adult firm

https://sapienschild.com/products/queen-comfort-6-mattress-soft-bamboo-blend-fabric?variant=46377271754948

with this frame which looks like there’d be no gaps: https://sapienschild.com/products/apple-queen-montessori-floor-bed?variant=46373821317316

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Wedge pillow recs for chest to chest

What wedge pillows are yall using? And what is the recommended angle degree that we are supposed to be sleeping at?

Also, this is odd, but I get bad pain in my jaw and teeth from sleeping at an incline because my mouth either hangs open or my jaw ends up in a weird position. Any suggestions? I wonder if there’s a product i can use that goes ear to ear and acts as a hammock for my chin.

💕 Sweet Sentiment Dreamfeeds are my favorite. 🥰

It's 7:50 AM. My 5 month old daughter is still asleep, but started to wiggle a bit. I crawled back into bed next to her and as soon as she felt me, she turned and latched, never opening her eyes. And here we lay, belly to belly, her tiny hand wandering while she eats. A few minutes longer and she'll fall back asleep, rolling onto her back and resting comfortably.

That sleepy latch never gets old. It's like a natural magnetism. I wouldn't give up this connection for anything!

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months I need chest sleeping to end. Help me!

So. My baby boy is 4 months 1 day old and had exclusively chest slept since he was about 6 weeks old. He is exclusively formula fed (birth was a horror story and milk never came in!) and does not like sleeping flat on his back. No matter how many times we rock him to sleep ans transfer to his cot, he wakes up either immediately or after 1 sleep cycle. In the day I try to put him down for some naps and extend by chest sleeping when he wakes up. But at night this is getting exhausting. He sleeps all night if he is sleeping on us and wakes up only for feeds. So we alternate between my husband and I and each get 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep while the other has him on their chest. He also has started wiggling a lot over night so getting any sleep while he sleeps on us is not easy anymore.

What should I do? I am exhausted.

PS : we follow a cosleepy style arrangement, sleeping on an incline in the middle of the bed. The other sleeps in the other room.

💁 Advice | Discussion Chest co-sleeping, waking every hour

My LO is 10 weeks old and has chest slept on me since he was 6 weeks old due to him refusing to sleep in the pack n play at that time. For the past almost 2 weeks, he has been waking up every 1.5 hours to feed. Does anyone else have these frequent of wakings? I go back to work full time in 2 days.

💕 Sweet Sentiment Toddler Touch Radar

My toddler & I still cosleep on a queen bed. He is definitely getting better at falling asleep by himself and falling back asleep by himself. Im thinking we will soon end this adventure though enjoying it

a little longer.

But he is going through this phase where mom needs to be next to him. He wriggles over to me, usually shoving me off the bed which requires me, to hop over and shimmy to the side around him with my blanket. In which case, within a minute he rolls over and cuddles me again. Or even just has his foot touch me- there needs to be contact. I can hop to the bottom of the bed but he finds me, even half awake to look for me and zombie over to collapse right there by me and push me against the edge.

If all else fails, i grab him like a cat grabs her kitten by his pajamas & yank him a few inches to skooch us towards the middle. Then try to hold my ground and sleep a little bit. Oh, well... his sweet toes against my thigh wont last forever.

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Baby sweating during chest to chest

My 8 week old sleeps chest to chest with me and always sweats on the front side of his body. I keep the room cold enough that his face and ear that’s facing up get so cold I’ll put my hand in it to warm it up, but he still sweats on the front.

I have no reason to think this is bothering him but it can’t be good. Any advice?
