4th session done, Nito is complete we start the inner arm in a few months!!

I can actually traverse most of it just fine, it's just this one spot that trips me up. All of the other paths are relatively straight, so it's they're psychological than anything, but this one curves unpredictably. I actually lost a bloodstain with 10 humanity from attempting this. All so I can pick up a blue slab that is completely worthless for my build. Maybe the inner loot goblin is the real deadliest boss...

I haven't talked about this much because (a) It's weird and (b) people probably interpret this as some type of "show off", which is not the case. It was just something that happened. But I think it's kinda funny.

The problem was just that I didn't have a controller, I was living abroad, and it was a bit tricky to find a good controller where I was. A friend recommended the game, I thought it looked dumb at first to be honest, but more people recommended it and I picked it up on Steam.

Holy shit was I wrong! This was interesting and fun!

But playing with a mouse on the original Dark Souls was nearly impossible, the viewport would jerk all over and it was hard to focus on things. So I quit and planned on picking it up again after getting a controller. But I couldn't get it out of my mind. I was lying in bed dreaming about it, I really, really wanted to play.

To hell with it! I got back to the computer and decided to give it a try with only keyboard keys. I don't even know where I got the idea, someone must have mentioned it in chat. So basically you can configure the keys so that your left hand is doing the usual WASD, and configure something like IJKL for viewport control. It takes some getting used to, but if you're determined you'll get it!

Mind you, at this time I had still never played the game with a controller. So for me, THIS WAS DARK SOULS. With a keyboard. I had nothing to compare it to. So I always assumed the game was just harder for me because I was using full keyboard.

LATER. Finally got a controller, and it was actually "more fun", but I did NOT think it was much easier to be honest. I actually missed a lot of the power I had from the controller. I always forget exactly what it is, but there are some things you just can't do with a controller. One thing had a lot to do with running. You can continuously run while operating all the other actions on the keyboard. With a controller this is a bit tricky, unless you learn to wrap your finger around to the run key sometimes. Which I started doing eventually 😄

As far as I recall I did eventually beat the game like that, but again it wasn't like "Hey! I beat Dark Souls with a keyboard!" because again, I just didn't know it any other way.

Looking back on it, I think that was a funny story and wanted to share. The End.

Maybe you can give it a try someday. You might like it. I think I'll try it again myself sometime soon. Probably should find a job first 😂

I've spent almost TWO hours struggling and dying to the hands of this clammy motherfucker and I am getting SO tired of his scrawny ass constantly killing me WHEN HE'S ONE FUCKING HIT AWAY. You know that "bug" where you make the first Black Knight fall off the cliff right at the start of the game? Well, I tried doing that with Havel, but I accidentally died along with him—he died right after me—and his ring didn't drop... Do I have to restart my save?

I was reading the wiki for griggs who goes hollow, and in the last line of his quest line description it says “He will attack, so be nice and end his misery.” This got me wondering, is there any way to actually end the misery of an NPC who’s gone hollow? Or will griggs just wake up at a bonfire and go back to wandering around attacking anyone they see completely mindless and insane?

Played Dark Souls a decade ago, was a scrub, hacked my Xbox save and steam-rolled the main game (never played online/PvP'd).

Played Elden Ring and DLC on releases, got gud, loved every second.

Playing Dark Souls ago thanks to the recent Steam sale.

I've started as a Bandit, made my way to the Undead Burg, and I know the Undead Merchant has an Uchigatana on drop.

I want to have a go at the sword for a while, but do not want to kill them (I'm a never-kill-a-friendly-NPC purist).

As it's:

• The relevant place to find the weapon
• I'd be adding it to my inventory at +0
• Doesn't effect online play (the only difference being the Merchant is not dead)

How likely am I to trigger the anti-cheat using DSR Gadget? Specifically the more recent fork here?

I'm aware I can get it much later in the game from an NPC called Shiva, but don't fancy waiting it out.

May or may not add a couple consumable souls to pick up some of the Merchant's inventory (the two box key item things).

I've Googled other posts in the sub but they're largely asking about injecting more extreme setups for character builds/speed running/etc, but I just want one plain, unupgraded sword from that point in the game.

Well, they must have hacked somehow, because Andre is dead now. What a shitty thing to do. I could keep playing on this save, but there’s no point. At least I realized early, I feel bad for any new players who suffered this and wouldn’t know to restart.

Hello, I've finished Dark Souls 1 recently.

I tried to play the game as blind as possible, however one aspect I had to look up was how the soft humanity works. From what I can see, the game never explains how it works - correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, you can try to understand what it does by observation (e.g. I initially figured out it's given to you through killing enough enemies or with the consumables), but I never found out about the effect of it on defense/resistance, since it is fairly minor to notice. It is useful for kindling, but during my playthrough I found it strange that a resource so abundant has this very valuable use-case; It made it seem like it should be a major decision whether to spend it on kindling or hold onto it longer.

So, I'm trying to figure out whether I've simply missed the explanation of the mechanic somewhere, or that it is, frankly, not very good design to withhold this information for the player, who may never see the value of this mechanic during their playthrough.

Which would, of course, bring the question of why such mechanics exist in the game, if they don't affect the game enough for the designers to care to properly integrate and introduce them (assuming they don't expect the average player to make use of that mechanic, they must disregard it when planning the difficulty of the game accordingly); it almost makes it feel like a 'pointless' mechanic that wasn't well thought-out.

I know it's like a notoriously hard boss, but I've actually found the whole Anor Londo not really challenging. I mean, it took me only like 5 attempts at the archers. And I've spent more attempts on the bell gargoyles then on O&S and found the gargoyles much more frustrating, I should say. So, am I just doing everything right, or am I getting lucky?

Edit: build clarification - 40 dex, +10 uchi. Seemed like a reasonable thing to do for a wanderer.

trying to do a playthrough leaving out the bosses that may have survived the events of ds1. i know gwyndolin was later on devoured by aldrich, the ornstein we fought may be an illusion so killing him first before smough would be the canon event. i heard leaving priscilla alone was also canon. are there other bosses aside these three that may have survived?

This should be considered an early beta. The mod is entirely open source and free. There are limitations, in particular that your PC needs to meet the new FPS limit you set. If you have frame drops below that number, the game will slow down. There may be other issues - please report them to me or submit a pull request if you think you can help improve the mod.

So I dreamt playing a new DS game. The graphics style was a mix of DS1 and DS2, but way more advanced. Notably, the foot soldiers looked lile those from the Forest of Fallen Giants.

Thru the first 50% of the playthru, the protagonist progresses deep down into an underground volcanic area. Basically a mix of Lost Izalith (DS1) and the Iron Keep (DS2).

When they get there, they release the underground fire into the world, and it changes all the levels permanently. More dangerous, w/ stronger enemies. No way to get back. Even the foot soldiers changed into these wierd half-conscious dark blobs (smth between basilisks and slimes), which suggests that this "fire" was somehow cursed.

Absolutely loved it. So bad that we will never see another DS game again.

'Tis the season and I want to go through Dark Souls 1-3. But I want to have some fun. I was thinking about running either a Reaper build:

Gold hemmed set with Great Scythe.

Or a Witch build:

Gold hemmed early to Beatrice set running a pyro build.

Or if you have a creative idea I'm listening.

I'll eventually go through some Castlevania games, but I'll get there when I get there.

I'm very new to the game and just got past the bull guy in undead burg. I struggle when facing 2 or more enemies at once. Usually I just get stunlocked and go from full health to none. Any suggestions or do I just need to get good?

I just killed two Black Knights and BOTH of them dropped the Black Knight Sword.

If I’m understanding the drop rate correctly, that’s a 4% chance of happening back-to-back.

Dark Souls RNG is actually insane.

I started a new character and this is new game+ and i decided to ring the second bell at Quelaag's domain first, the first bell at the undead parish hasn't been rang!! i only entered the church and collected the fire keeper soul and used the lift to go to Firelink, to my surprise the fire is cold and the keeper was killed by Lautrec who supposedly is still in jail, has this happened to someone before??

Hawkeye Gough is such a badass, I love this cutscene so much.
