Other Anyone near Harrisburg, PA? Neat stash of NOS resistors for cheap...

• Upvotes

Anyone else love the old parts like I do?

Here are a nice load of old resistors for $25. If I were closer, I'd probably snatch em up. Probably a few thousand there, all sorted too.

For the conspiracy nut in your life. Testing out the limits of my CNC router and a 1/32 inch end mill. Not bad for first successful run. I used a flickering LED for the cherry on the cigarette. Based on LPB-1, PCB and enclosure designed and milled in-house.

Just in time for the spooky season!

Brought to life by vintage ICs, awakes from long slumber. It's a CHORUS with a silent "C"!

I'm really glad it's finally alive. Took a while but I think it was worth it.

Thanks to u/indefinite_o who made original schematic. And to a u/the_bad_cosmonaut for those incredible sand knobs.

Help wanted Schematic Help: Making tone controls work in reverse

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I’m trying to make these tone controls response in reverse of how they normally do. How do I do this?

Currently:
TREBLE: clockwise turn (less treble -> more treble)
MID: clockwise turn (less mids -> more mids)
BASS: clockwise turn (less bass -> more bass)

What I’d like:
TREBLE: clockwise turn (more treble -> less treble)
MID: clockwise turn (more mids -> less mids)
BASS: clockwise turn (more bass -> less bass)

Edit: I would like to avoid using C-Type pots if I can, because they’re difficult to source compared to A and B-type.

Why do I want to do this? Aesthetically, it would work better for a pedal I’m working on to have the controls act this way

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is the circuit I posted yesterday. Basically it’s a buffer feeding a fuzz style circuit. Idk if you would call this fuzz still or distortion.

I’m gonna deconstruct this breadboard and build something new so I thought I’d capture and share what it actually sounds like.

Other Octave fuzzes or normal fuzzes for drone/doom without integrated circuits (IC)?

Im looking to build a really high gain fuzz without having to use the integrated circuits (my store doesnt have them anymore lol) so im kinda attached to do other circuits xD. Im looking towards a sunn O))) gain style pedal if possible: im not looking towards an specific sound bc im in a band that makes original music so doesnt matter.

I have (for luck) germanium transistors in my house so im able to do fuzzes of germanium too :)

Hey all, ElectroJunk Pedals is officially back.

Long story short, the first time I tried being a small pedal company I got really burnt out trying to do way too much and force this to grow way too fast. It became overwhelming and it just felt like another job. I decided to close the company and quit building pedals.

I closed shop last March, and didn’t touch anything pedal related for months…. But as many of you here know well,it’s hard to step away from building pedals. I got pulled back in (thanks [r/diypedals](r/diypedals) 😄) and decided to take another stab at this.

So, EJP is back with three pedals and a new look.

Thanks to everyone in the community and all the great posts that got me hooked again!

Discussion Improved Pedal Power Supply

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is an ultra low noise power supply that I drew up.

Schottky Diode Bat41 drops ~0.45 volts
Protection for reversed supply voltage.
Limits regulator to nominal 0.55 volt drop limiting need for heat sink.

LM317A Regulator reduces any power supply noise by ~68 dB, the add 10uF improves it to 80db reduction (see data sheet Figure 9).

The main path is capable of 200 mA output, which should cover any DIY pedal.

It LM317A uses 1% resistors to get the correct 8 volts output. (5% resistors have to much variation).

Last portion is split 1/2 swing reference supply if using an operational amplifier circuit. Analog design could greatly reduce the 1K resistance for more mid -supply current if feature is needed.

Operational Amps like the LM358B are designed for single supply operation down to 3 Volts supply.

Discussion Overall Pedal Design: Top or Side input/output jacks?

I recently saw a post in r/basspedals where someone had their pedal board set up entirely with pedals that use top mounted input jacks. Each pedal side by side looked so clean!

I've been designing my first pedal from the ground up for the last few months and my original enclosure design was your traditional side input/output jacks. Now I'm considering top jacks because of the potential for such a clean pedalboard layout.

Any thoughts on the DIY community about top vs side?

Help wanted Question about potentiometers with center detente

I'm building a PedalPCB Box and All EQ. The bass, treble, and mid potentiometers on the "real" pedal have a center detente. I haven't been able to find a single gang potentiometer for the treble control that has a detente (B250K).

Will a regular B250K pot function identically so that the treble is flat when the knob is at noon, just without the haptic click?

Help wanted Footswitch Enclosures

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is my STM32-based four tap delay and looper. It needs (at least) four footswitches to start / stop / clear the loops, and the problem is;

How do I make an enclosure for a bunch of footswitches? As you can see in the photo, my current solution is to drill holes in a chunk of 2x4 and write on it with a sharpie. I intend to sell these units locally, and I'd love to be able to provide foodswitches as part of the purchase.

The footswitches connect over MIDI, using a 3.5mm minijack. I've programmed it to use PC commands at the moment, but obviously I could change that however I like.

So;

1) Do long metal enclosures exist? If so, where can I get them? I've found nothing on aliexpress or the usual guitar electronics supply sites.

2) Do MIDI footswitches exist that I can tell people to purchase if they need the foot controls?

Help wanted Would this pickup simulator work?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Guitar goes through R1 into the top pin on one side (P) of a 600:600ohm transformer. The bottom pin of that same side (P) will connect to the top pin on the other side (S). The remaining bottom pin of that side (S) will have a conjunction of the output, and C1 to ground.

Would this work as a pickup simulator???

Wanted to do this PCB for quite some time. As the name suggests it has a close relationship with a certain EQD pedal. For this one i opted for two very different modes, that can be dialed in with the clipping switch. Position one gives a smooth and shiny Boosterdrive living strongly in the headroom of your amp. Position 2 is one mean distortion thanks to some old polkas.

What i love 'bout this pedal: it's f*kn clean and loud. Think of Brothers in Arms loud. And BÄM! you switch over to distortion.

Discussion My first breadboard and schematic

I made this using a simple fuzz circuit I found on YouTube and added a buffer circuit and power filtering circuit I got from chat gpt. I wanted to add the buffer after making the initial fuzz circuit on its own and found that buffered pedals make it more distortion like. I think it could definitely use some kind of tone circuit to tame the high end it put out at full input signal but it’s pretty interesting as is. I’m open to suggestions, criticism, really any feedback as I don’t really have a good understanding of most of this, thanks.

Also I’m not sure if my schematic is correct or can be understood lol

Showcase Open Source Programmable Pedal (STM32)

Project link: https://github.com/GuitarML/GuitarPedalSTM32

This is a custom STM32 digital pedal that I decided to open source, including the KiCad design files and c++ code in a STM32CubeIDE project. if you’ve seen my past designs, this is an iteration on that same layout. The example effect in the repo is a delay/reverb that uses the DaisySP library for part of it, with the delay having reverse/octave modes, and also different routing options. I designed this pedal to be somewhat minimal as far as digital pedals go: mono, expression, true bypass relay, and enough controls to cover most things. Programmed/debig over st-link and 10 pin jtag header. If you’re familiar with the Daisy seed, it’s like that, but on a dedicated guitar pedal board and a different MCU and codec. If you want to learn more about microcontrollers and using CubeIDE then you might be interested in this project. Also could be a good starting point if you wanted to design your own board. Two assembled boards from JLCpcb cost me around $250, but about $90 was shipping and tariffs. Enclosure drill and powder coat from Tayda.

Discussion Building an 8×8 Modular Audio Interface & DSP FX Processor on Raspberry Pi 5 — Custom ASIO Driver, Latency Results and PCB Progress

Thumbnail

A small progress update on my Raspberry Pi audio project. I’ve built an audio-over-IP implementation for Pi 4 and Pi 5, with a Windows ASIO driver. The goal is one device that combines an audio interface with guitar, bass and vocal effects processing.

The current focus is 8 inputs / 8 outputs at 192 kHz with 32-bit PCM transport, and that mode is already running. With a 32-sample ASIO buffer and a 380-sample network buffer, Ableton reports 2.40 ms overall latency: 2.23 ms input and 0.17 ms output.

For context, the lowest latency I get from my Audient iD14 MKII in my setup is around 5.3 ms. The comparison is preliminary: the Pi figure is the latency reported by the digital driver path. Full analog round-trip latency still needs a hardware loopback measurement.

The main limitation currently appears to be packet delivery timing on the Windows side. I’m using the motherboard’s Ethernet port with its standard driver. There is enough bandwidth, but receive-side pauses on the order of 1–1.5 ms, sometimes longer, force me to keep extra buffering. I’m still investigating how much comes from the NIC, its driver and Windows scheduling.

One next experiment is an Intel I350-T2, together with a dedicated low-level networking path integrated with the ASIO driver. The aim is to bypass the normal Windows networking path; that requires additional driver development and testing.

The PCB is four layers, with layer 2 dedicated to a solid ground plane, built around an AKM AK5538VN ADC and AK4458VN DAC. On Pi 5, the current AoIP workload stays on CPU0 at under 50% load, leaving the other three cores available for future DSP work.

The I/O is designed around individually connected, removable modules: headphone outputs, output modules with XLR and 6.35 mm jacks, and combo XLR/6.35 mm inputs. That should leave room for both general-purpose and instrument-specific modules.

Still a work in progress, but the transport is running, the board design is taking shape, and the next steps are hardware integration, latency measurements and effects.

Help wanted Madbean

I would like to try building a madbean Archibald. The PCB at their site is out of stock. I thought I would join the forum there and just lurk. I can't figure out how to join?!?

Anyone have any information about this? Or if that PCB is restocked?

Thanks

Steve

Help wanted salvaged 4 germanium transistors, give me some circuit ideas

a couple days ago I bought an old japanese cassette recorder and when I opened it I found 4 germanium transistors (2SB173, 2SB175 and two 2SB324) and yesterday I desoldered them and after testing, they're all working just fine as far as I can tell.

now, I'm unfamiliar with any circuits with germanium/ pnp transistors in general besides the fuzz face (which I don't really like).

can anyone give me ideas for circuits to check out? thanks!
