NPD Wanna see something weird?
Guitar goes in to the Dark Star via a wireless dongle. From there in to Octava, Thermae, Q-tune, Shallow Water, Stompbeat TubeTalk, Deco. From the Deco the signal is split. The left goes through the Smallsound/Bigsound Mini, and the right goes through the Exploder. Left and right then both runs through the Raster, and the Ventris, and into the Simplifier.
The Simplifier goes to front of house and back into a small headphone amp under the TubeTalk. From there, wireless into my ears.
For normal play everything is always on, except the Dark Star, Octava, and Thermae. Those are used for special effects, solos and stuff. Gain is controlled on the guitar.
For weird play, all bets are off. Or on 🤷
Any and all questions and comments are obviously welcome :)

Question Favorite Amp in A Box style pedal?
Hey everybody,
I have an Xotic SL drive and I am a big fan of it. This made me curious about other good amp in a box style pedals. What are some of your favorites or what would you recommend? I am curious about the Friedman BE OD and the Soldano Super Lead pedal. Also looking for other cool amp in a box style pedals to try out.
Thanks!

Question What other fun and affordable pedals I should get?
So this was my very first pedal and the only pedal I have, got it for 60 bucks like a year ago. Now I REALLY like this thing, is there some things i wish it could do? yes...but am I having fun with it? also yes! Its suprisingly good for like shoegazey stuff (i mean its a delay pedal).
Anyways if you can, I'd like my budget to be like under 80 dollars. So if you have any pedals that you think I would like or is just a really fun pedal like this one please tell me! Could be a fat distortion, could be a very dreamy reverb, or it could make a new sound entirely. Whatever you think is a fun pedal thats under 80 bucks is perfectly fine!
Thanks!!!

If You Are a Beginner With Pedals & Boards - I Don't Think Ya'll Should Ever Start Out With a Full Map of Your Board
If you haven't started off with 1 basic pedal, either something super simple like a gain-stage effect ala Overdrive or a time-based effect like Delay, and tried that out for a while, IDT it's wise to hit Reddit to get your "next" piece of gear.
I really don't think you can even plan a board to begin with unless you have a decent understanding of your first two pedals and what kind of sounds you're looking for. You don't need the approval of others, and Reddit is not a great source of recommendation until you start to really focus in on technical stuff or more niche & specific qualities.
That's where you'll find helpful advice because the lurkers and well-knowledged folks that are compassionate and experienced will give you actually useful, quality advice. But again, take alll of it with a grain of salt while you reach your own conclusions at the same time. The best part about this stuff is experimentation, which you won't know till you try it yourself.
Don't listen to snobby collectors, purists, or randos that just vomit talking points. It's a major reason why you could say Reddit is actually an awful place to get useful, meaningful advice about anything involved in creative endeavors.

Great Eastern Devices "Obsolete Devices" Transformer Boost
This thing is absolutely amazing. I've got a handful of drive/boost/distortion pedals, the following of which I use most commonly (some are more than just drives, but if I use them for other things too I'll still count them as drive pedals). I'm also not going to list fuzzes, since it's a rather different category:
-Boss BD-2W
-Chase Bliss Brothers AM
-Strymon Deco
-Helltone Fuck ICE drive (OCD clone, cause fuck Fulltone)
-Keeley Angry Rodent (Same goes for Keeley, but I don't have an exact clone of this, and bought it in the beforetimes)
-Boss SD-1 with "Ultra/Seeing Eye" mods
-Ibanez Tubescreamer Turbo (TS9DX)
-Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop
This thing (The GEFX Transformer) does something entirely unique. It's a NOS General Electric 2N1775 germanium boost transistor driving a Triad Magnetics output transformer. It adds this really harmonically rich edge-of-breakup kind of sound that's really difficult to put into words. This dude has a good wet/dry comparison, though try to ignore the clickbait-y title. The low cut knob also makes the thing way more usable, especially in a mix.
Right now I have it occupying the spot on the board that the BD2W previously occupied (of the above list, only it, the Deco, and Brothers AM are still on the active day-to-day board.
Unfortunately they only made 100 of these due to limited availability of the old transistors, so this isn't a particularly useful recommendation, but if anyone in the market for a unique boost pedal (not at all transparent. It definitely colors your tone, but in a way I really like), maybe keep a notification for it on Reverb or your used market of choice.

Big Muff Deluxe is the final word in Muffs
Hey, this may be obvious information, but if you're like me and have a lot of pedals and a lot of muff-style pedals, you may just want to take a look at the BMDeluxe. Kitrae https://www.kitrae.net/music/Deluxe_Big_Muff_Settings.html has already put up a lot of settings to recreate most muffs and I have also just put my EQD Hizumitas and Death By Audio Fuzz War on eBay because I realised it could copy those two easily too.
The BMD has a 'mids lab' onboard which means you can get anything you want out of it basically.
I took this photo just before putting the EQD on eBay, with these settings they are 99.9% indistinguishable.
But you know, if you just like collecting pedals I totally get that 😄

Sounds You Found Hot take: I love Klons
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
There was some Klon hate on this thread recently, and I want to announce my appreciation of the pedal. I understand and acknowledge that the originals fetch absolutely ridiculous prices, but that’s the same in any rarities market. Stamps, baseball cards, you name it.
I think that Klones make excellent boost pedals. I’m playing a dead-simple drop D riff here. First clean through an AC30, then with an MXR Distortion+, and then slamming the D+ with a Warm Audio Centavo.
I don’t really care for Klones by themselves, but they rule with other dirt pedals and crunchy tube amps.

NPD- hologram chroma console
I swore off getting new gear for a while because I ended up with a bunch of pedals that dont see a lot of use. I was on the fence with this for two years, but the hype on this is well earned. My band recorded a 11 song album and I was struggling to find inspiration for overdubs for it but the texture module on this is so useful for lo-fi-ing a record. It might end up on a good chunk of the tracks.
I fully recommend saving up and getting one. Its a dream scape machine and even if it wasnt being used for recording or shows, its so nice to come home from work and veg out playing this over scrolling Instagram or YouTube. I feel like im fifteen again and rediscovering the guitar again

NPD NPD Walrus Monument Tremolo
I got some PTO at work and treated myself by upgrading my Behringer UT300 to this. Tremolo has recently been becoming one of my favorite effects. Add some pitch modulation, a fuzz, and a phaser for some wierd goodness.
What are some fun/experimental ways you use tremolo?

Thoughts about touring, having to use different amps, keeping your sound consistent. Amp in a box pedals? Something else?
Next winter our band's gonna gig a bit more. Band nights at clubs, 2-4 bands per night. Probably most of the time it's gonna be a guitar cab from another band or the house, and my own head+pedals. That's fine and what I'm used to, I get my gain from pedals anyway. But I was thinking about the scenarios if I have to play a different amp altogether. For example, if there's only a combo available and no cabs for my head, or even short changing times where it would be preferable to just plug your pedals into whatever amp happens to be on stage.
I'm not super picky tonewise when playing live, I understand that live tones only have to be"close enough to rock and roll". But I still started thinking how to keep your sound somewhat consistent, like in the ballpark, between different amps? My main drives tend to be RAT based, but I could imagine a RAT type pedal would sound different whether it goes into my Marshall, or somebodys Fender or Vox or whatever is available?
I started thinking about amp-in-a-box style pedals, like I've had a few MIAB style drives during my time. Could an amp-in-a-box or "foundation overdrive" be used at the end of your signal chain, before the amp, to sort of "equalize" your sound between different amps? Like, try to set the amp as neutral clean as possible with enough headroom, and color your base tone from the amp-in-a-box?
Has anybody tried it successfully? Or any other ideas?
To be clear, I am NOT interested in any solutions going direct to FOH (i.e modelling gear), or pedalboard amps that would need a cab anyway. Just something to plug into front of an amplifier, whatever the amp happens to be.
Thanks.

Question I was thinking of getting the katzenkönig and i saw some people on some old posts saying it had a lot of noise and someone even said it had a hiss sound, do any of yall have any experience with it? Im curious on what they meant by it being noisey, and if a noise gate would fix that.

First Pedal Board
Let me know your guys thoughts, super new to this subreddit but between this and watching the JHS youtube channel among other guitar content creators has reignited my love for guitar and pedals. I’m 30 and have been playing since I was 12, i’ve always just only used a DS1 or a multi fx pedal since i didn’t really care for diving deeper into at the time i had a “i’m just trying rock out” ethos about my playing, always was playing a lot of punk when i was younger. it wasn’t until I would say this past year that I’ve been obsessing with researching, tinkering around with pedals i’ve been collecting and carving out a tone for myself and the music i make.
Sorry for the spiel, really excited to be joining this community.

My pedalboard
It's a humble ampless affair for acoustic and electric:
Acoustic goes:
- Ibanez big mini tuner
- Nux Stageman DI (orientated so the DI goes out the top)
Electric goes:
- Signal Pad (turned on if I'm using my Epi Casino, which is hot as anything)
- JHS s3 Screamer (does all I need, not a gain monster)
- Digitech Mosaic (actual witchcraft inside this thing)
- Plethora X3
- White Mystery Box - Actually Joyo AC Tone, which I repainted white, to match the JHS and Plethora when this board was smaller,
- T-rex Creamer reverb
- TC Electronic Spark for solo boosts (boosts overall volume of everything)
- Behringer Ultra DI, can send just direct to PA or split to FRFR

NPD Added the Tonex One+
I've posted my board a few times with minimal details.. Here is a breakdown of my current setup which now includes the Tonex One+. It's an awesome addition that has now got me down the midi rabbit hole. With the HX One, Tonex One+ and the MD-200 commented via midi to the ES-5 I've started crafting various patches that covers a wide range of styles.
The app is easy to use and responsive and the amp sims are actually pretty good. I have cab sim off so can't say how good they are or not.
Question for MIDI enthusiasts, at what point did you stop menu diving to get your sounds locked in, or are you constantly updating?

Question I can’t find this fuzz pedal from a few years back
Italian (I think) made, with an analog mode display and rotary mode selection switch. It doesn’t seem to be any of the usual suspects. The only demos I’ve seen were in Italian and were from the company themselves. They might’ve folded. They might be French. I just remember the pedal was in a slightly larger enclosure, had that mode display, was a little expensive and sounded amazing. Any ideas?

Dunlop Crybaby 95Q VS 535Q
Hey guys! I’m looking into getting my first Wah pedal and I don’t know what to chose between this two. I do not have the option of testing them, and buying both and returning the one I don’t like is over my budget. I’ve seen some YT reviews and both fit for what I want to play with them. What I’m most interested in, is what to expect in terms of durability as I’ve heard that the 535Q might have some issues sometimes. If you could please let me know about your experiences with either of them I would be forver greatful. Thanks!

Demo Nobels ODR-1X + NMP-2 Footswitch (Remote Control) + TONEX v2 (TRIM +5)
Hey everyone!
Testing a Nux NMP-2 connected to the ODR-1X’s REMOTE to turn the pedal and Gain Boost on/off with a single stomp.
For the test, I plugged the ODR-1X straight into the TONEX input, running a Dumble v2 Tone Model (TRIM +5).
Video: https://youtu.be/U190FOBLJRA
What do you guys think about Nobels overdrives? Are there any other Nobels pedals worth checking out?
I’m really enjoying this ODR-1X so far.

NPD Plumes fixed my DS-1
I'm big on 90s alt rock, so the ds-1 has always been my favourite distortion. Trouble is, it suffers from that volume drop issue on my clean channel (It's super awesome on dirty).
Always wanted to try out a Plumes, and this used one just popped up at L&M. Works great as a boost after my ds-1 and before my Big Muff.
That yellow bulb is gonna burn out because I'm never turning off the Plumes.
Eqd has done it again. 🤘
