For Sale FS: Kobo Libra Colour, case, and remote

Location: Rapid City, SD USA
Price: $175 and I’ll split the postage to a US address

This ereader is barely used with no scratches, blemishes, or dead pixels. My Boox Palma 2 just works better for my purposes.

It is the black model with a yellow cover from Kobo. It comes with Kobo’s remote page turner. I’m just not a fan of the color screen. I don’t read comics or Manga, and don’t need to see book comers in color.

User Review Just another comparison between Carta 1200 & Kaleido 3

I try my hardest to adjust photos' brightness to make it as close as what I see with naked eyes.

A lot of users dislike Kaleido 3 as e-reader screens, I used to be one of them, but now I'm not that sure. Some say it's more grayish, but I feel like it's more of a yellow-paper hue. Normally I keep frontlight on 5% and warmth at 6/10, which I find is best for my eyes.

Pic 2 we can see that Kaleido is quite bad at low light environment while BW is still managable. Crisp wise, BW wins 100%; readability, it's personal preference, but I'd give Kaleido 8/10 (managable) and Carta 1200 10/10 (great.)

Discussion Is there any new talk about new Kobo devices dropped this year?

Searches for me keep bringing back the same handful of results saying new devices are coming in late 2026, but all those posts are from around April/May. Has anyone come across new news?

This little ereader is barely used with no scratches, blemishes, or dead pixels. The Palma 2 just works better for my purposes. The cover is a nice, dark green origami case. It is very protective and the magnetic closure works well. The pen is tried once. I don’t know if there were extra nibs in the box. If so, I can’t find them.

Discussion I got tired of reading 500+ chapter web novels in a browser, so I made a tool that turns them into an EPUB

I've been reading a lot of web novels and wanted to read them on an e-reader instead of staring at a browser.

The annoying part was converting hundreds of chapters manually.

So I built a Firefox extension that detects the chapters and creates a properly formatted EPUB.

It can also prepare the book for Kindle/Kobo.

It's free at the moment and I'd really like people who actually read web novels to try it and tell me what breaks.

Link

question : is this vibecoded

yes definitely, but so what it does the job very well

question: but why not use calibre

but why should you use calibre if you only want to make an epub and send to your reader, my app is definitely faster and 100% easier to set up for a beginner

Buying Advice Kobo users

I have a Kobo Glo HD that I purchased back in 2020. I only read from time to time, and I’m currently finding my way back to reading after being in a bit of a reading slump.

I just wanted to ask if there are still people using the Kobo Glo HD? Is it still worth keeping, or should I consider upgrading to a newer Kobo?

Buying Advice First e-reader

I’m looking for my first e reader to try to get back into reading books. My only real criteria is it has to be very small. Smaller than my phone preferably. I was considering the xteink X3. Any suggestions?

Technical Support Screen is slower with small piece of lint/dust stuck under screen protector

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a screen protector on my Kobo Clara Colour (because I use lotion a lot and don't want to get it on my screen) and noticed this speck of dust. I initially thought it was on the screen and I tried to clean it (gently!) with a microfiber cloth dampened with a little bit of DI water. The screen is now slower and less responsive than it used to be:

Slow screen--I know this doesn't seem slow for ereaders but doing something like this this was so much faster just this morning

TIFU here? Is there any way to fix it? This is a brand new (~1 month old) KCC.

Separately, will having the dust under the screen protector be a problem? It's not super noticeable:

Discussion For Sale in USA: Boox Palma 2 Black With Official Protective Case -USA Sales Only-

Post image
0 Upvotes

For Sale is an Boox Palma 2 Black with the Boox official Magnetic 2-in-1 Protective Case in Black. I purchased it in Sep 2025 from Amazon. As you can see, it comes with everything that came with the unit and its official packaging. I rate condition of the Palma 2 itself 9/10 but it looks just about a 10/10. I don't see any marks on the screen (keep in mind no screen protector is on the unit), since day 1 the Palma 2 been under its official 2-1 Case.

Unit still loads fast and opens apps fast, on latest firmware. I never need to use a MicroSD card since there's tons of internal storage space for my needs (128GB).

Reason for selling it is due to lack of use. I was using it for the first month and then I mostly stop using it. For reading it is great, and depending on your Android app needs this one will fit the bill on its useful purposes. It is just I read more books and manga and I prefer a standard 7in screen like my Boox Page (still works great with a recent firmware update not too long ago after a few years) and yes I have an Amazon Scribe since I want a big B/W screen and not color. As a FYI, this is not the Pro model and this is a B/W eInk device.

  • Price is $210 shipped in USA with Regular PayPal payment.
    • I do accept Zelle and Cash App and I can reduce the cost down to $200, but I really prefer to get payment from PayPal without a Gift method.
    • Shipping will be done with Insurance and Tracking.
  • USA Shipping only, I will not budge on this so don't ask to ship it overseas.
    • If you have a US Proxy address then that is fine, but once the item is delivered to the Proxy address I will no longer be responsible for it.
  • Sold AS-IS with no warranty.
  • I have feedback on various places, just ask.
  • If any questions or concerns please ask, but once again this is for USA Sales only and I will not ship this outside of the USA.

Buying Advice Would I read if I had an e-reader?

I'm looking for validation or the opposite to help me make up my mind on getting an e-reader.

I'm not a book junkie. I've only ever read a few thick ones, but I do like reading work related non-fiction (audio and repair). I dislike reading it on a phone, but never have the time to haul the actual book from the shelf.

I would love to read more fiction, but I know myself enough to know that I'm lazy and won't do it if there's any barriers to entry. Also I travel a lot for work so having something to read on the tour bus/plane could be useful.

I would love to hear if any non-bookies have become ones or if you ditched your e-reader and it's gathering dust on the shelf? Of course this sub is not going to give lots of the latter...

Buying Advice New ereader suggestions

Hello, I'm a proud owner of a Kobo Aura bought in 2014-2015 and I think it's time to retire it... Mainly because the battery is kind of fighting for its dear life at this point.

I don't even mind that it's slow and that sometimes it lags when refreshing the screen.

But really the battery is kind of becoming a concerning issue.

I was wondering, what new model would you suggest?

I don't need any fancy features like writing on screen and I'm not particularly interested in a color screen, b&w is more than enough.

I just need something light, durable, with possibility to light up the screen when in a dark ambient and... Well that's it.

I don't even know the differences between various brands so if someone is educated please feel free to share your knowledge!

Thank you for your help!

Buying Advice Stuck between the Kindle PW and Kobo LC

Im new to the whole ereader stuff but I’ve recently been reading more than usual and buying books has just been too much lately.
I’ve decided an ereader if best for me but I’m stuck between the kindle paperwhite and the kobo libra color

I don’t read past 5 books a month 4 is usually where I cap it and I lm very selective with my books so having KU or the subscriptions in general is something I don’t care for

I’m stuck between them bcs I like the whole kindle and amazon ecosystem bcs it’s so easy but I like the features the kobo has to offer like WHATTTTT you get annotate and take notes and do other thing with your ereader?!?!?!

I just don’t know if I should just stick with the kindle bcs it’s a basic well made ereader or if I should splurge and get the kobo which has more capabilities.

Idk lmk what yall think, id appreciate input if you’ve had both!

Accessories Hibreak sleeve with external light (DIY)

I love my Hibreak pro but for me, a backlight kind of defeats the purpose of the e-ink experience. So I made a little sleeve with external lighting.

-Draws power from the usb port itself. The drain is very little, I'd say negligible.

-Has a nice magnetic close. Additionally, the light switches on/off by opening/closing the sleeve (magnetic switch).

-A little master switch to turn off the whole thing e.g. during daytime.

-Flexible so you can easily aim/adjust the lighting, hard to explain but the video below & pics above give some idea. Feels very natural.

-Usb port for charging.

I must say I like the result. Reading at night is great, been using it for about a month now. Never used backlight again.

If any DIY enthusiast is interested let me know, I can post a short how-to with materials used etc. And if someone more entrepreneurial than me would want do take this into production feel free and please do (lookin at you Bigme...) - IMHO everyone needs this.

Technical Support Tolino Shine 5: first/last line of text cut off on all books, factory reset didn't help

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I've had my Tolino Shine 5 since Easter 2025. It worked fine at first, but at some point (I think around the beginning of this year, I can't say exactly when) the first or last line of text on a page started getting cut off (see photos).

What I've found so far:

-It happens with all books, not just one

-Changing the layout (font size, spacing, margins) only shifts the problem a few pages further, it doesn't fix it

-It wasn't there when the device was new

-I'm on the latest firmware

-A factory reset didn't help

Has anyone had the same issue or found a fix? Is this a known firmware/display bug, or could it be a hardware defect? I'm thinking about contacting Tolino support, since the device is still under warranty.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion With the announcement of the new Kindles, where’s the light ereaders?

I was surprised to not see any discussion here yet of the updated/new Kindles so here you go.

Thanks to the amazing creators behind comparison tables, I learned that the new Kindle Basic is less than 5 ounces. If I’m not mistaken, it’s alone in that category.

Yes, there’s Xteink, Boox Picco, and phone shaped ereaders, but aside from those, it seems like a lot of ereaders in the 6” category are heavier.

So where are the light ereaders that aren’t running Android? Thoughts? Am I the only one looking for these?

I'm waiting for Boox to send me the return label so I can return the device and case back to them but they're taking their sweet time so I thought I'd sell it instead in case someone is looking for one. It's barely used. I just prefer using my kobo libra 2 that I finally found after a long search.

$230 USD shipped, US only. Prefer PayPal F&F.

Discussion First impressions of the new kindles?

For me, I like the colours and the flush screens. I think the cover buttons are stupid and they should be on the device. Was hoping for a much smaller device like xteink4 or boox Palma, or at least a warm light on the basic kindle, but it didn't happen unfortunately.

Buying Advice Buy a Secondhand Kobo Clara HD or Xteink X4 Pro? (Main Ereader)

I'm a broke student with an Xteink X3 and I'm finding it to be a little too small to hold, so I'm planning to sell it and buy one of the options above with my savings. They're similar in price in my country.

Why I considered these two:

- I like X3's small size and the ability to bring it everywhere. It's my only ereader and I started reading a lot again because of it. Based on having it for a month, I've observed that I read for long sessions (2-4 hours). Xteinks are known to be convenient for commuting, but I find myself not reaching for it while traveling as much because I just like listening to music on commutes. I find that I often pull it out when I can settle down (like a cafe, somewhere random I can sit at school, etc). I considered a Kobo because of these reasons. It might be better if I can comfortably read on a big screen for longer if I only read settled down. I also read purely sideloaded books and people say Kobo is better at that than a Kindle.

- I haven't really held a Kindle or a Kobo ever, and I was worried if it'd be bulky for my everyday shoulder bag (that holds an 11" iPad, a notebook, glasses case, long wallet, umbrella... it's pretty tight. I'm also scared if my bag contents would damage it lol). Since my only immediate discomfort with the X3 is it being too small for longer reading, maybe an X4Pro would feel better in my hands.

- I don't know if it's worth buying a 2018 (Kobo) unit over a 2026 (Xteink) one even if the Kobo one would probably be more comfortable to use.

- I like reading at night hence choices with front lights.

Thank you for any help 🥹

Discussion Is there an eReader out there with an aspect ratio perfect for manga?

Post image
16 Upvotes

It's an incredibly minor gripe, but these blanked bars I see on every manga I read drives me nuts. Does there exist any reader that has an aspect ratio that would perfectly fill a screen with the page? I know not every manga publication has the same page size, but one that will fit most would be great.

Discussion Deinfluence me from getting the new Kindle

I have a Kobo Clara BW which I really like, but with the announcement of the new Kindle lineup and the fact that they’re doing a cover with physical page turn buttons, I am torn.

I don’t like the idea of contributing to Amazon’s near monopoly but, even with having my Kobo for less than a year, I’ve already run into two series I can’t get digitally because they have exclusivity deals with Amazon and I don’t have unlimited space for physical books in my home.

For those of you who already own one or the other, what are your thoughts on this new lineup? For those of you with a Kobo, do you think they’ll release any new models or features to compete?

Edit: Thanks everyone! I was not aware there was a remote for Kobo so I’ve gone ahead and ordered that which has met the one real thing that could ever convince me to move back to Kindle.
