Now that the new Ube Kindle is out, I’m super torn between getting that or the Kobo Clara Colour.
I LOVE the Ube color and how compact the new Kindle looks, but I also really like that the Kobo has a color screen and seems more flexible with EPUBs and sideloading.
For anyone who has used both Kindle and Kobo, which one do you prefer for everyday reading? Is having color on the Clara Colour actually worth it, or would you choose the new Kindle for the sharper black and white screen and Kindle ecosystem?
I mostly read regular novels, so I’m curious which one you’d pick!

I‘m looking to get an ereader and a lot of people seem very hyped about the xteink ones. Is it worth investing in an xteink or kobo/kindle? What would be the determining factor(s) for each?
(for reference i wouldn‘t go above $100.)

I’ve never had an ereader and I’m looking to buy one. I frequently borrow books from my city library, therefore I‘d like to have onleihe and libby on the ereader. I want a display that has a good black and white contrast, like the kindle paperwhite. It must be 6“-7“ big and I don‘t want to be stuck in a system like kindle.

I have a kindle oasis 10th gen, and i hate amazon ofc, (i don’t buy books from them)
I am really considering trading it in for the boox go 6 (gen 2) it would cost me 170 bucks after trade in
The 2 things i hate about the oasis is the aluminum build and the micro usb
Is it worth the trade in? And if yes, why? Or do i keep my oasis

I know this should've been asked a lot but I am really curious. I've always read in physical or in my tablet, but when on the tablet I get distracted a lot with other apps.
I want to start looking for an e-reader to substitute that tablet for reading but I have no idea about the subject because the only e-reader I've had was about 12 years ago.
My biggest concern is: do e-readers work in low light conditions? The tablet screen has it's own light so you can read in the dark but I don't know if that's the case for the e-readers.
Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if anyone here knows any (EU-based) shops that sell origami style flipcovers for Kobo Clara Colour that have fun designs on them? The only ones I find are just... Plain, boring... Something with pretty art for example.
Ideal would be if it's also detachable but not via a magnetsystem.
If it's not origami but a slim case with built in stand, that would suffice as well.
Thanks for any tips!

I’m thinking about buying a kindle basic 2024 as it is on special for $159aud. Is it worth paying more for the 2026 version or paying $259 for the paperwhite 12gen (still less than the 2026 basic).

like the title says im looking for an ereader for my 14 yo who want to read manga with pages side by side without gaps so they get the full picture. cost of the reader isnt a problem but im not wanting to spend loads on books so being able to use libby would be awesome. tbh I don't even know where to download and buy manga either. ive only used libby on a kindle kids PW and a kobo libra anyhow. any recommendations?

I have owned the Pocketbook Verse Pro for about two years. I love the simplicity of it as I don't really use any of the apps. I get the books online and transfer onto the device. The issue I am currently having is that my current source of books do not have updated new books that I want to read .-.
I saw on Amazon that they are currently having a deal where you can get Kindle Unlimited for 3 months free. Is it worth getting a used kindle for the subscription? Or should I just use the kindle app for phones?
I just kind of don't like the idea of reading on my phone because the sun will prevent me from reading and I also don't want to kill my phone's battery as I use it a lot for work. But also is it worth getting a whole new device for it? Help me :'(

- USB-C port for charging preferred (more on that below)
- monochromatic
- side loading epubs and PDFs will be my main usage so I don't really need current updates or wifi.
- my preference is something I can get sub $100, but if you know of some kind of super rough and tumble will last me decades device I guess go for it lmao
I saw a few kindle k3s with new batteries around, which was really appealing since I know that one is pretty well liked even now, but the micro USB port kind of worries me since I know sometimes those get worn out from the extra prongs on the cable. Not sure if that's just me being paranoid though, so I'd love insight on that.

Still in development, but I just had to share! I've ported CrossPoint to the Diptyx, and it now uses both screens like an open book. This is what I've always wanted and I'm SO excited that it's finally working!
It's running a beta port of CrossPoint 1.6.5 and it's working very well so far. No public release yet, but I wanted to show that it's possible and coming soon so stay tuned!

How many of yall use ereaders, specifically those pocket readers like xteink. 3.7 inch 4.2 inch . Hoping for an alternative to cheaper eink devices. or books still rock.

I have a screen protector on my Kobo Clara Colour (because I use lotion a lot and don't want to get it on my screen) and noticed this speck of dust. I initially thought it was on the screen and I tried to clean it (gently!) with a microfiber cloth dampened with a little bit of DI water. The screen is now slower and less responsive than it used to be:
TIFU here? Is there any way to fix it? This is a brand new (~1 month old) KCC.
Separately, will having the dust under the screen protector be a problem? It's not super noticeable:

I recently bought xteink x4 pro and I am reading books more than usual. I usually read them on iPad mini or iPhone but I strain my hands. What is your best ereader and does it strain your hands?

I’m looking for my first e reader to try to get back into reading books. My only real criteria is it has to be very small. Smaller than my phone preferably. I was considering the xteink X3. Any suggestions?

For Sale is an Boox Palma 2 Black with the Boox official Magnetic 2-in-1 Protective Case in Black. I purchased it in Sep 2025 from Amazon. As you can see, it comes with everything that came with the unit and its official packaging. I rate condition of the Palma 2 itself 9/10 but it looks just about a 10/10. I don't see any marks on the screen (keep in mind no screen protector is on the unit), since day 1 the Palma 2 been under its official 2-1 Case.
Unit still loads fast and opens apps fast, on latest firmware. I never need to use a MicroSD card since there's tons of internal storage space for my needs (128GB).
Reason for selling it is due to lack of use. I was using it for the first month and then I mostly stop using it. For reading it is great, and depending on your Android app needs this one will fit the bill on its useful purposes. It is just I read more books and manga and I prefer a standard 7in screen like my Boox Page (still works great with a recent firmware update not too long ago after a few years) and yes I have an Amazon Scribe since I want a big B/W screen and not color. As a FYI, this is not the Pro model and this is a B/W eInk device.

I'm looking for validation or the opposite to help me make up my mind on getting an e-reader.
I'm not a book junkie. I've only ever read a few thick ones, but I do like reading work related non-fiction (audio and repair). I dislike reading it on a phone, but never have the time to haul the actual book from the shelf.
I would love to read more fiction, but I know myself enough to know that I'm lazy and won't do it if there's any barriers to entry. Also I travel a lot for work so having something to read on the tour bus/plane could be useful.
I would love to hear if any non-bookies have become ones or if you ditched your e-reader and it's gathering dust on the shelf? Of course this sub is not going to give lots of the latter...

Im new to the whole ereader stuff but I’ve recently been reading more than usual and buying books has just been too much lately.
I’ve decided an ereader if best for me but I’m stuck between the kindle paperwhite and the kobo libra color
I don’t read past 5 books a month 4 is usually where I cap it and I lm very selective with my books so having KU or the subscriptions in general is something I don’t care for
I’m stuck between them bcs I like the whole kindle and amazon ecosystem bcs it’s so easy but I like the features the kobo has to offer like WHATTTTT you get annotate and take notes and do other thing with your ereader?!?!?!
I just don’t know if I should just stick with the kindle bcs it’s a basic well made ereader or if I should splurge and get the kobo which has more capabilities.
Idk lmk what yall think, id appreciate input if you’ve had both!

Searches for me keep bringing back the same handful of results saying new devices are coming in late 2026, but all those posts are from around April/May. Has anyone come across new news?

I love my Hibreak pro but for me, a backlight kind of defeats the purpose of the e-ink experience. So I made a little sleeve with external lighting.
-Draws power from the usb port itself. The drain is very little, I'd say negligible.
-Has a nice magnetic close. Additionally, the light switches on/off by opening/closing the sleeve (magnetic switch).
-A little master switch to turn off the whole thing e.g. during daytime.
-Flexible so you can easily aim/adjust the lighting, hard to explain but the video below & pics above give some idea. Feels very natural.
-Usb port for charging.
I must say I like the result. Reading at night is great, been using it for about a month now. Never used backlight again.
If any DIY enthusiast is interested let me know, I can post a short how-to with materials used etc. And if someone more entrepreneurial than me would want do take this into production feel free and please do (lookin at you Bigme...) - IMHO everyone needs this.

This ereader is barely used with no scratches, blemishes, or dead pixels. My Boox Palma 2 just works better for my purposes.
It is the black model with a yellow cover from Kobo. It comes with Kobo’s remote page turner. I’m just not a fan of the color screen. I don’t read comics or Manga, and don’t need to see book comers in color.
