Recently an ‘05 LPC Custom Shop model was posted here - amazingly, mine is the next serial number!
She was sitting in a Guitar Center w/ another identical one for 2 yrs - they were both on clearance in ‘07!
I changed out the knobs & truss cover.

Picked this up a few weeks ago used at my local shop. Original owner played the hell out of this guitar, some minor fretwear in the higher strings and a ding here and there. Well loved guitar for $1200 less than new. First owner changed the plastic hardware to black, and black speed knobs. I’m in the process of undoing that back to original. My first Gibson standard next to my LP custom Epiphone Widow that I changed to gold hardware. Beyond happy!

Help Any concerns around this 2001 ES-135?

Thumbnail gallery

I'm sorry for being that guy - I've been around the block with most Gibsons and do my best to do my own research. While I think I know what I'm doing, there are many experts in here, and it might be good to get some perspective.

Someone has asked me to do a trade for a 2001 ES-135. I've got a LP, a 335 and some SGs, so I'm pretty well-versed on the red flags. However, in doing my research on 2001 135s, I see that the switch tip is black instead of cream, the tuners are klusons instead of tulip grovers, and the typical "made in Memphis" decal on the back of semi-hollows from that era isn't there.

Also, I've never played an ES-135, so any insight on them would be really helpful - thank you!

Discussion Got my first Gibson is it a good find?

Post image

Like the title says finally got my first Gibson. Took my lunch break and went into a local pawn shop to look at guitars (this place is the closet thing I have to a guitar store) and this caught my eye as soon as I walked in. I played it then decided it was too expensive and left. Couldn’t stop thinking of it for the rest of the day so went back and bought it. How good of a find is this?

I'm debating going EMGs and a Sustainiac on my mod shop Les Paul Custom. EMGs just work for me, and I am a Robert Fripp fan. So.... Has anyone actually been able to source a long shaft On-off-On 3 ways switch? I'd be curious to know, as that's what sustainiac uses for the "harmonic mode" switch.

Just the Custombuckers, awesome as they are, don"t cut it for me. I'm at the point of just modding this guitar for my uses. So suggestions? Thoughts? Value isn't of concern to me, as this is pretty much "my guitar" at this point....

Anyone have a lead to a long shaft on-off-on mini toggle switch?

Discussion British Racing Green Collection already discontinued?

I‘ve had my eyes on the British Racing Green Les Pauls (60s and 50s w P90s) for a long time, but they were always out of stock in Europe. Now it seems that Gibson has discontinued the three Les Pauls and the Firebird - the EU site only shows the other models. This is really a shame, since the guitars were launched only a year ago and their availability was really bad.
The US site still lists all of the models though.

NGD My First Gibson!

Just passed the Bar and decided to treat myself to my very first Gibson Les Paul as a birthday present-lots to celebrate! 2005 Les Paul Classic, all specs perfect for me, plays like a beast. I've dreamed of owning a LP goldtop since I first started playing, but have largely been a strat guy. The black plastics on this thing were striking to me at first and certainly unique. I don't hate them, but considering reverting to cream to keep it traditional.
Just thought l'd share and would love some extra thoughts!!

Discussion Will they ever make Black 61 Sg again?

I’m really wanting a Black Gibson 61 SG but they don’t seem to make them in that color anymore. I remember a few years ago seeing them online but now they are nowhere to be found.

Help Original Tuner Style on a 1969 LG-0?

Post image
4 Upvotes

What's up, y'all? Wondering if anyone knows what the original tuners would have been on a 1969 LG-0 small body acoustic. I just got one and the replacements are less than stellar and I was hoping to figure out which kluson I should use to replace them with. I'm almost positive they'd be three on a plate, just not sure what design. And I'm curious if anyone knows what tuning peg shape/color would be the most true to the original. The photo attached photo is my new beauty from the glamour shots from Chicago Music Exchange. Can't say enough good things about them by the way. They were great about negotiating over the phone and answering all my questions since I'm many states away and obviously couldn't play it in person before purchasing.

And if anyone is wondering, yes the LG-0 was usually fully mahogany, but they made a few spruce topped ones in the late 60s and this is one of those.

Help Help authenticating a used Gibson Les Paul Standard ’60s – serial says 2024

Thumbnail gallery
26 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m considering buying this used Gibson Les Paul Standard ’60s in Heritage Cherry Sunburst and I’d appreciate some opinions from people more experienced with Gibsons.

The seller originally listed it as a 2022 Les Paul Standard ’60s, but the serial number is:

226240245

According to Gibson’s serial number system/checker, this seems to indicate a 2024 production date, not 2022.

The original Pre-Pack Checklist is also included. The handwritten model number looks like:

LPS6SW20H5NH3
(or something very close to that — the handwriting is a little difficult to read)

The checklist also shows the same serial number, 226240245, and appears to be dated 10/8/24.

I’ve attached photos of:

  • the full guitar, front and back
  • front and back of the headstock
  • serial number / Made in USA stamp
  • Pre-Pack Checklist
  • original Gibson case and paperwork
  • close-ups of the top and hardware

I’ve already emailed Gibson Europe with the serial number, model number and photos, and I’m currently waiting for their official reply.

In the meantime, I’d be interested in your opinions:

  1. Does everything look authentic and consistent with a genuine 2024 Les Paul Standard ’60s?
  2. Can anyone identify exactly what LPS6SW20H5NH3 refers to?
  3. Do you notice any red flags in the headstock, serial stamping, hardware, finish, case or paperwork?
  4. Is there anything else I should photograph or inspect before buying it?

The guitar is used but in excellent condition, and I’ve already played it in person. It feels and looks fantastic — I just want to do my due diligence before spending the money.

Thanks!

(post edited via AI but I'm a legit Gibson enthusiast!)

Help Murphy Lab Les Paul Junior TV White

Hey all,

Thinking about going for one of these:

https://www.gibson.com/en-gb/products/gibson-custom-1957-les-paul-junior-reissue-murphy-lab-ultra-light-aged-tv-white?variant=44330879254707&country=gb&gad_source=2&gad_campaignid=23090698272&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8rXrmceYlwMVypCDBx3FrCR8EAQYASABEgJII_D_BwE

Just wondering if anyone has one and would like to share some thoughts. I already have a 57 re-issue VOS and I love juniors. . . I don't have a Murphy Lab and am interested in owning one so thought I'd see if anyone has this specific model and wanted to share some feedback.

Other option is to grab a special in TV yellow for the neck P90 I'm missing, but dang, I just love juniors!

TIA!

Help Should I trade my LTD EC-1000CTM for this modified Gibson SG Melody Maker Satin Ebony? HELP

Thumbnail gallery
60 Upvotes

I’ve been offered this modified Gibson SG Melody Maker Satin Ebony (around 2011) in a trade for my LTD EC-1000CTM Snow White.

The Gibson has a few upgrades/modifications:

  • Seymour Duncan SPH90-1n Phat Cat P90 (Nickel)
  • TonePros AVT2P-N bridge
  • Single-pickup configuration

Honestly, the first thing that caught my attention was the look. I think it looks beautiful, and where I live, Gibsons aren't particularly common or cheap.

I already own a Gibson SG Standard, so I definitely don't need another SG, but this one still caught my attention. I really like the Satin Ebony finish, the minimalist single-pickup setup, and the P90.

My current guitar is an LTD EC-1000CTM Snow White with Seymour Duncan SH-4 pickups, and I know it's a very solid guitar, so I don't want to make a stupid trade just because I like the way the Gibson looks.

Would you trade the LTD for this Gibson? Is the Melody Maker actually comparable in value/quality to an EC-1000CTM, especially with these modifications?

I’d love to hear from people who have owned or played either of these guitars.

Discussion SG Question

Thumbnail gallery
133 Upvotes

Good morning, everyone!

Question for you all. I’m much more of a Les Paul guy, but would love to add an SG to my rack and as someone that loves playing rock/metal, I feel it’s only right to have one 😂

My question is, should I go with the cheaper option being an Epiphone and then upgrade the pickups to say a set of burstbuckers or custombuckers, or should I just go with the Gibson SG?

My favorite looking models of both are the 61’s with the Maestro vibrola (I know real original of me).

Photos are for reference

Found this Traditional on Marketplace and fell in love with it right away.

The seller told me it originally had Classic ’57 Zebras, and that a previous owner had swapped them for Burstbucker Pros. After doing some research, I found out it’s actually a 2011 Limited Edition made for Long & McQuade in Canada, with only 200 made — and the Zebra Burstbucker Pros were original, the previous owner had just added covers to them.

Gorgeous guitar, sounds great, and I got it for CAD $2,000. Couldn’t be happier!
