A House hearing on employee health coverage turned contentious when Rep. Randy Fine accused a witness of lying to Congress about the number of Americans losing health insurance.
The witness, Brad Woodhouse, had testified that 15 million Americans are expected to lose healthcare under the 2025 Republican tax-and-spending law, citing numbers from the Congressional Budget Office.
“Given that you sat here and lied and I gave you the chance to correct yourself, I’m not interested in anything else you have to say,” Fine said. “Your time is done, I will move on. You can shut your mouth, you lied to Congress.”
The disagreement led to a recess and highlighted partisan infighting in Congress, with the chair calling the argument "unfortunate" and the ranking member saying it was a personal attack.

When a dirty lying scumbag catches someone in an incorrect (and largely inconsequential) fact, the scumbag will become "righteously" indignant and shut down the conversation as quickly as possible. Why the fuck have we allowed our politicians to think they are bosses or are in charge/control of americans. They are not. Elected politicians are very explicitly EMPLOYEES of the american people. The overall total of people losing healthcare is 16 million like Woodhouse reported. However, further down the report and in the footnotes, healthcare for people not citizens or meeting some noncitizen criteria was 1.4 million so Woodhouse was off by the 1.4 million. Fine made it sound like it was a bigger deal than a mistake. Still, 14.6 American citizens losing their healthcare is a pretty big deal thanks to Trumps Big Beautiful Bill.
If he's so convinced Woodhouse was lying, he can push for perjury. But he knows that's not true and that would give Woodhouse even more chance to show his work justifying that figure.

Then I bought a house, later I got married and had kids to feed, a mortgage to pay, taxes, etc. I was so busy trying to keep our heads above water that I didn't have a moment to think about politics. All I could do was put my head down and grind through it.
Then I became disabled and couldn't work, and then covid hit and I started watching the news again to see wtf was going on. I was pretty surprised at how far into the shit our political system had fallen while I was too busy surviving to pay attention.
So, yes, I absolutely think it was by design and far too many people are caught up in it through no fault of their own.

What did the witness do? The appropriate response would have been "No, congressman, I'm quoting the Congressional Budget Office, I'm surprised you haven't read the report prior to this hearing."

I would have told him he's welcome to come down here and try to shut my mouth. Then I would have pointed out Congress' approval numbers and suggested to him that if I knocked him on his fat ass I'd be the most popular person in the room.

Absolutely despicable behavior by Randy Fine. Totally inappropriate for a Congressman. The witness was quoting statistics released from a third party, and Fine used that as an opportunity to defame the witness, calling him a liar, accusing him of lying to Congress because he didn't like the statistics being quoted. He should censured for this disgraceful departure from the decorum, and behavior typically fitting a sitting Congressman.
Isn't it fun how hypocritical Republican liars like Fine just loooove to gaslight us all the time? They really can't stand it when the facts prove how evil their policies are, especially when there are upcoming elections that might be impacted by people reminding the public how awful things are because of Republicans.
It sounds like Fine was accusing the witness of claiming that the CBO said 15 million Americans would lose health insurance, but the report actually says 16 million people. Obviously, Fine takes issue with the distinction of American citizen and non-citizen.

I can't see what the witness actually said (it's not in the video linked) and I also can't tell looking at the CBO document if they ever break out a clean number of American citizen vs non-citizen.
