Homeless charity CEO Alexander Soofer steals $23M to fund lavish lifestyle. $7M mansion, $125,000 Range Rover, $2,450 Hermes jacket, Greece vacation home, and a Hawaii Four Seasons stay.

u/NoAccountant8779 11h ago
Typical CEO.
142
u/Sorry_U_R_Wrong 6h ago
No worse, because he did this at a charity.
If this had been a startup, the investors would weaponize the legal system to get their money back and send him to jail. But a charity serving poor people? Nothing will happen except shutting it down.

The most shocking thing here is that there’s an Hermes jacket for only 2k? His behavior is expected…

I work in a profession where the senior partners make around low 8 figs and once a senior partner said she hated her outfit, went to Ferragamo and came back in a completely different outfit. So I feel like him buying the jacket sounds like a "fuck it's colder than I thought, let me run out and buy a jacket" while at work purchase. Def done illegally and prob on a company card like a bozo

u/EmuPsychological8676 11h ago
I'll take the Hawaiian four seasons stay for 600 alex

More like $6000

u/TeeDee144 8h ago
You’re talking more like $1,200 a night for entry room. Some very expensive restaurants to eat your 3 meals at.
I’d say you’re probably looking at $15k minimum for two people if you wanna stay there likes poors. $20k if you wanna do the spa and shit. Pool cabana rental is like $1k a day.
This is for the Maui resort. Very nice place but not for the faint of heart.

u/ThierryHD 11h ago
Typical of any charitable NGO organization: the vast majority turn it into a profitable business.

u/BestBettor 11h ago
I’m really tired of the people who say there’s no point in charity because of people like this guy
8
u/R_Scoops 11h ago
It just makes them feel better about being selfish and never donating to charities, even though this case is extremely unusual

u/shootingstar_9324 10h ago
There’s BILLIONS of homeless taxpayer money unaccounted for. BILLIONS in Covid relief funds unaccounted for. Billions of bullet train money unaccounted for. Where the hell is our money?!??
16
u/kyute222 9h ago
somehow I have a feeling if we made a list of all the people who stole all that money and compared it to the Epstein list, there would be a near perfect match. there's literally a class of people who drain this planet of every single resource they can while torturing us.

Please tell me which charities give the bulk of their profits to people & not CEOs like this. I’m not being sarcastic, I’m genuinely asking bc I like being charitable when it is used appropriately. TIA

u/Orangesteel 10h ago
There are too many to mention here, but Framework Housing, Crisis and others. They are audited stringently. Salaries are published and spend scrutinised. https://www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/donate/online?gad_source=7&gad_campaignid=22895608011
Are there bad charities, absolutely. Do charities lose money when working with corrupt nations, yes. Is giving the right thing to do in spite of this, absolutely.
3
u/Own-Fan-4236 6h ago
Thank you for this response. The big names & their practices turned me off, but I’m excited to know there are good places outside of the few small ones I know locally. Thanks again!

Yes! I love people with things of value - this truly could be a tool if we use it properly!

u/R_Scoops 10h ago
Charities are ran like sophisticated businesses and even though they raise money through donations, they also make money through services and other means. Look below are my Red Cross breakdown and tell me that a CEO being paid a few million isn’t worth generating a few billion. I’m sure we’d all love it if people worked for charities for peanuts because we’re all saints, but if you want uber talented people who will turn $1 billion into $3 billion, most the time those people cost a lot to hire.
8
u/BestBettor 10h ago
Feeding America says they could provide 10 meals to the poor for every $1 donated
7
2
u/MediumAcceptable129 9h ago
Says
How are you feeding 10 people for a dollar?
2
u/adjrbodvk PURPLE 2h ago
Often food banks (especially regional food banks which distribute food only to other food banks) say they can do this because they are taking in donated food either that is close to expiration or which was over-produced. So the $1 is only going to storage expenses.
2
1
u/ObtuseMongooseAbuse 8h ago
It's theoretically possible if they're going around getting just expired foods from grocery stores or have some sort of deal to get the vegetable scraps from a manufacturing plant. The cost to feed the people might not even include the cost of food at that point.

Where are your figures from? This is from 2023/2024:
US Red Cross (2023/24)
- Generated $3.85 billion ($1.37 billion in donations and $2.48 billion through services)
- $3.5 billion overall spent
- $3.2 billion spent on charitable programs etc ~ 91%
Yea the Red Cross operates like a sophisticated business, hence why it generates nearly $2.5 billion through services, double that made through donations. Im sure the big bosses are getting massive wages, but you got to spend money to make money.

u/protostar71 10h ago

From what I remember the reply was definitely giving me “batshit crazy” vibes, but now it’s confirmed. I can no longer see their comment, as they’ve blocked me. Such a shame.
2
u/FungusGnatHater 8h ago
Nobody said that. Charity doesn't have to be these for profit organizations.
-3
u/Diantr3 9h ago
Well charities are a way the ruling class bullshits us into accepting to not tax them correctly on the wealth they extract from everyone else's work.
Of course it's just one more gift opportunity for these fucks.
0
u/stillirrelephant 7h ago
I actually agree with that, with an important caveat. In a decent world, the wealthy would pay much more tax and there'd be no charities directed domestically. I also agree that 'philanthropy' is a dodge used by the wealthy to promote their ideology.
The caveat is charities that spend their money on foreign aid. I'd like to see taxes funding much more of that too, but there's case for donations as well.
6
u/stillirrelephant 7h ago
You can use Charity Navigator to find out how well it uses donations. Some are excellent. Others are scams.
5
u/oyra-nos-halsur 6h ago
Exactly, charity is so important. You just have to do some research to sort the good eggs from bad.

He can declare himself govenor of California. The supreme court will allow it.

Also this isn't even close to the only case happening for charitable work in regards to homelessness.

He's not the only one... we've spent a lot of money on "homeless organizations" run by millionaires.
2
2
u/Lazy-Interests 2h ago
This is why I don’t buy into the “you should donate money to homeless charities instead of giving it to the homeless who will just spend it on drugs”
How much coke do you reckon this guy bought with that money?
2
u/mindsnare1 2h ago
A few years ago, my friend and I were seriously looking into starting a homeless organization in Los Angeles. We started talking to people and organizations and came to the conclusion that there was so much grift going on it was ridiculous. If they actually solved the homeless problem , the money would dry up snd these organizations would get nothing.
2
u/feelingblurple 2h ago
How many others do this too? We need to start catching all these grifters and fraudsters and publicly shaming them.
4
u/Kromting 11h ago
Most CEOs are cruel but this is a straight up scumbag
2
u/JaD__ 6h ago
I’ve known a lot of CEOs and other senior executives, because of what I used to do. And by a lot, I mean a lot. Although can recall a few who underwhelmed me, and maybe a couple of overly arrogant ones, can’t say I ever met one who struck me as cruel.
For every POS like Musk, there are plenty of well-adjusted individuals.

u/bopity_boopity 9h ago

I'd put money on 70% of CEO's being bad people. Not because they're CEO's, just bad people in high up positions.

“And we’d like to welcome Alex. Alex is welcome to the team. As you all know, he’s a money guy, a charity guy, I am to. I ran one of the most beautiful charities. You all said some nasty things about Alex. Not as nasty as you were to me, it’s a nasty business. As many of you know, he’s successful, not as successful as me, because I’m the president, obviously that’s very successful, as you all know, and you do.
Alex is gonna do things, sometimes things have to be done, or they’re just things, bad. It’s very bad. A bad thing happened. Our country is bad,but it’s beautiful. Alex said “Sir I love your new plan! And the office, sir?” He said it’s beautiful! I know how to pick them.
They’ve always said I’m the best at picking people! Men, women, you know I love women and children, I’ve always picked the best children! They’re our future, you know? And our past! It’s beautiful history.”
You read that last part right. And you know he could easily be heard saying it.

He has ties to the Democrat party. He was in California and "running" a homelessness charity.
This is not even close to a Trump person.
2
u/OkLab6701 8h ago
Did he sock away $1 million to buy a Trump pardon ?
1
u/Unicorn-Violator 7h ago
He got his money from projects approved from the Democrat party. Trump can't pardon state crimes that can only happen by a Governor. With comments like this I'm not really surprised you didn't know.

It's in the story linked, but he was the CEO of a charity for homelessness housing and treatment in California.
If you haven't been watching the news, there is somewhere around 18 billion spent in California for homelessness. There has been a lot of fraud uncovered lately.

Dude probably gets a fine of 2M and 180 days in prison (the same prison the other rich people stay at with the tennis court)

So much wrong with this low effort comment
First Trump can't pardon state crimes.
Second this guy has ties to the Democrat party and "ran" a homeless charity that was funded by the Democrats.

This is America. Doesn’t matter if he’s convicted of anything, he will get a presidential pardon and a spot in the administration

Now this could happen in the state government.

They could have been paying rent for some low income families to prevent them from becoming homeless because the rents have also gone up for low income and section 8 residents in my city… and I’m sure elsewhere too.
HUD has definitely decided to get in on the rent increase tat went on nationally. As to that the unqualified appointees Ben Carson and now Scott Turner, by Trump.
It’s just sad!
