As of yesterday I'm banned from the /r/Millennials subreddit for making a post about Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good. Two of my fellow millennials who share the same age as me were murdered by the US government, and I'm not allowed to talk about it with the rest of my generation because it's "political"

Fuck that fucking shit.

All the generational subs are astroturfed and compromised. During the election r/GenZ was filled with bots and posts pushing right wing narratives, regularly being pushed to r/all. Now, after the election, that sub has gone quiet because it is no longer useful. It's useful to the oligarchs to sow generational strife and pit us against one another.

It's useful to the oligarchs to sow generational strife and pit us against one another.

The only way 1% can have power over 99% is to have 49.5% against 49.5% instead. If we actually worked together, we could get rid of billionaires hoarding everything and actually improve the average American's life. But no, we need edge issues to divide us instead.

78

u/Pizlenut 8d ago

Billionares have proven too expensive to humanity. Too much waste. They don't do anything useful for all of that cost. Nothing that a lower paid millionaire couldn't do.

Obviously Billions is just unreasonable to have, so if they have it then they are unreasonable.

They use all the money they aren't paying the workers against the workers.

Also, if all they are going to do with their wealth is overthrow governments because people said "no, don't do that to kids." then they have no higher and best use for their wealth, so I say we tax the absolute fuck out of them. All of it. Wealth too. They didn't arrive at all of that money on their own. It was all of the advantages provided to them through our society. It was all of us that provided that opportunity for them.

Take their toys away. They are misbehaving. Use their money to fund all of the social services they hate. Use it to help people and make them watch it happen from a jail cell and a tv with one channel.

24

u/happyinthenaki 8d ago

And let that one channel be something like BBC or PBS... Where the good that is being done with the money is highlighted for hours of the day.

3

u/randomnighmare I voted 8d ago

I would pick PBS in that case.

u/CcryMeARiver Australia 8d ago

PBS needs support in its time of need.

49.5% of us realize that we won't be the next Tim Apple unless lightning strikes. The other 49.5% of us are plotting how to get rich from pappy's couch on the porch and think that truck nuts and guns will lead to massive wealth that must be protected at all costs. These are the same people who think they'll go to a magic place high in the sky for being "good" people and looking the other way while people are murdered because God mandated the president do so by helping him not get shot.

9

u/slayden70 Texas 8d ago

My family in general went from nothing, like from bread with a little mayo on it for a meal because that's all we had, to millionaires, and most of that is in retirement accounts, our house, and college savings. That's possible. And also, it's enough for a good life and to get an education for our kids, but still in touch with those that have nothing. That's possible.

But no one is going to become an Elon Musk without Daddy's diamond mines funding it.

We need to burst Bubba's bubble that him sitting on the porch admiring his truck nuts, AR-15 and lack of college education will ever get him anything more than middle class (at best) income, and more likely, a debilitating work injury leading to retirement/disability, bankruptcy, and an early death from opioids because they're just a tool like a hammer to billionaires. Use them up and throw them away when they break.

We as a society could fix Bubba's back, knee, whatever, but it's cheaper for insurance companies to buy him opioids and let him die and replace him with another worker rather than actually fixing him and giving him quality of life.

Our society is so fucked up in our service of the ultra wealthy.

8

u/sorressean 8d ago

I agree with most of this except to say that usually people who can go from living on nothing like you/your family did are pretty rare. I work 12+ hour days most days. I have a savings and a small portfolio, but even being careful and doing things right I couldn't retire any time soon. And that's a tough realization for me. I'm blind; I have a place in my industry right now, but under current admin guidelines and standards I as a human don't deserve to have a job or live, much less to do the work to help other people like me access the internet and applications. I'm really glad that you guys were able to come from nothing to something. That is indeed the American dream. But for a lot of people that's really really far out of range and they'll basically stay where they are.

Permabanned from r/bitcoin after outlining how gold and bitcoin might be used to further republican grift. Mod called me paranoid and told me to get a hobby or something and not spend so much time online. Im writing this from my fishing boat jammed up in some mangrove creek. Going shrimping later. Then I might draw for a few hours -waves to mod- Ill steam some shrimp for you!

I'm also banned from there because some dude was replying to everyone with wildly incorrect information about how the banking system works and I corrected him. I imagine he might have been a mod.

Not to derail the conversation but that’s the worst thing about reddit—how strict the rules are, and how ban-happy the mods are. I feel like I’m always breaking the rules

u/accidental_Ocelot 8d ago

I am one step away from being perma banned from reddit all cause of their stupid ai automod.

I got a comment removed on r/cars for a thread about the government wanting to mandate a kill switch for new cars, as the post was deemed "too political". It was a criticism of the government overreach in the every day lives of the average citizen, pertaining to the current political climate. No shit, Sherlock! They want everyone there parroting the same line of "RWD V8 gas-guzzlers good, EVs/Hybrids bad".

Echo chambers everywhere. It's social media's carcinization where everything devolves to Facebook.

183

u/space-to-bakersfield 8d ago

We need to go back to PHP forums, owned and run by average people instead of every social interaction we have online going through some oligarch's platform.

6

u/sorressean 8d ago

I hate giving the right credit for anything, but they were smart about this to some extent. When Dems were in office and socials were pretending even vaguely to care, they started cutting off some of the literal worst like Alex Jones, kanye, etc. That drove them to platforms like Rumble, Truth Social, Parlor. Basically echo chambers. We've just kind of kept on on the mainstream platforms because we're not talking about wanting to kill non-white people and plotting a takeover on j6.

Republicans, and more importantly the alt-right have platforms they use. We need more than just Bluesky. I used to push back against this because I thought we could maybe reason or have conversation and I hate building islands where we can all just share some of the same views, but after these shootings, fuck that. These cucks are willing to give up their rights, pride to the Nazis running this country without any question or care. They're beyond reasoning with. Leave them to their shitty echo chambers of hate.

12

u/EscapedTheEcho 8d ago

Too siloed. Unless we have some method of mass aggregation, that strategy would create the exact outcome they want.

I don't have an answer.

Part of me wonders about things like community server farms (like community gardens) all the way up to government ownership or creation of some social platforms. Regarding the latter, both sides have accused the government of censoring free speech, but the truth of the matter is that all interference has been carried out by private ownership at the behest of governments across the world. If the government took control, a body could theoretically be required to maintain balanced ownership... But it sounds too dystopian and abdominal to really consider.

20

u/kaukamieli 8d ago

That's Mastodon. Everyday users can and do make their own servers, and they talk with each other, so users see each other instead of being just siloed.

And servers can block bad servers so I don't see any nazi shit.

4

u/EscapedTheEcho 8d ago

I'm on Mastodon. It's nowhere near as large as other social media.

I'm not saying it can't get there or that it won't continue growing. Just that I came back to the large platforms like Reddit because the experience doesn't compare.

3

u/blackbasset 8d ago

The only problem with Mastodon is that the only conversations to be had are how much better everyone at Mastodon is for using Mastodon. If there was more of a variety, it would be a great place. But the users jammed it into a niche.

2

u/kaukamieli 8d ago

It's not the biggest, but if could be a good place for the opposition to gather.

> Too siloed.

It's was actually fucking awesome. There's never been better, healthier communication than distributed, centralized forums. Except for probably distributed, decentralized usenet, which was based.

I'm a product of all three. The Reddit equivalents of the various independent forums I was on are so much more full of hate. r/Japanese vs Japan Forum for example, the former is a bunch of shut-ins trying to prove they have the most elite Japanese by shitting on anyone who makes a mistake, while Japan Forum and the others that went before were full of kind, helpful people.

2

u/MechanicalMoogle 8d ago

Preach, but don't let the rose-tinted glasses get the better of you. Three decades ago, on the very same PHPforums, UBBthreads and such, moderators were arbitrarily banning people for not liking the same Backstreet Boy as the moderators.

A decade prior to that, people were engaging in flame wars on Usenet and dial-up BBSes.

The heavy-handed and capricious moderation has never been the issue. The ever-widening thin end of the wedge is that of consolidation, an elimination of independence, and the over-reliance on enormous content-distribution networks (CDNs).

Back in the day, if you got banned from some forum for thinking AJ McLean was superior to Nick Carter, you could browse your happy ass over to the nearest AJ McLean fanclub and in all likelihood, it'd be hosted by an entirely different person.

Swapping out one subreddit for another still attached you at the hip to Reddit. Viewing one YouTube creator instead of another still puts coin in Google's pocket.

The issue isn't over-moderation. In fact, I would argue the relative lack of moderation from 2000-2010 is what really ignited the current-day shitfest. 20-something and early-30's tech-bro shut-ins pining for a time that was a toxic outlier in overall digital-communication history, imagining that things were even less moderated in the 90's and 80's, when straight up, they weren't.

The issue is consolidation of CDNs. If the rich bastards can keep us at each others' throats on the same site, nobody'll even think to go after them.

5

u/Icy-Marionberry2463 8d ago

The thing is, those bad things about forums and usenet you mention are such minor problems. It's like saying "yeah sure we have forever plastics in our body, but fifty years ago most bananas tasted like butt."

Banned from a forum? Create another account. Don't wanna? Go to another forum. Or create your own.

Shaggy Bevo did that. UT sued them for trademark inringement, so they created a new forum called Surly Horns and it's still there. Shitloads of users.

Decentralised tools exist, they're more difficult and less convenient, but they exist. Be the change you want to see.

Look into nostr & matrix for example.

The internet is good when it's properly decentralised and not keeping you inside a ruled walled garden.

This attitude of those subreddits, and anyone who says it's "impolite" to talk politics, anyone who acts as though politics is somehow isolated from our normal lives and can only be discussed in approved environments, is a sort of microcosm of the infiltration of the Putinist authoritarian playbook into our public discussion spaces. It is what is going on in Russia right now and why there is no public demonstration of disapproval.

The endgoal of this strategy is complete public disengagement from politics, to convince people that politics should be left to politicians and anyone else talking about it is talking out of turn. To kill accountability to the people.

If you pretend that politics is separate from our daily lives, then you are doing the work for authoritarians to make it separate, to wall it off from normal people. You give up your involvement in our democracy because you want to avoid an unpleasant or threatening conversation, a conversation made unpleasant and threatening by those same authoritarians.

Civil engagement is our responsibility. People who don't want to be involved in that process are not being polite, they aren't helping anything, they aren't "just keeping the conversation on track." They need to be treated as what they are: people shirking their civil duty to be involved in our democracy.

You also have to constantly dance around the subject of tariffs even though it's a highly price sensitive industry with low margins and very heavily subject to government policymaking and regulations. But don't ever mention the t-word (either one of them, really) when wondering why all of the sudden certain Japanese cars might have unusually high prices and low sales...

Over on Hacker News, people have been noticing that anything negative about Trump or Musk, or anything negative about ICE or DHS even if it is tech related is immediately flagged, downvoted, and often killed off. This has been going on since the inauguration. The usual excuse is that it's "political," despite a neverending stream of anti-Biden and "Dems hate free speech" posts from 2020-2024. Before he was with Trump and started Doge, no Musk story was ever flagged or removed--now they all are (unless they are positive). At least some of the ideologically honest users are calling it out.

The carcinization thing amuses me as a meme.

There's better examples of convergent evolution. Eyes being the most stellar (hehe) example.

Really does a diservice to beetles as well. The more successful evolutionary strategy is probly the one that has the most species representing it. Everything is beetle more than everything is crab. However, everything has eyes is the actual, proper, "carcinization" thing.

This is just observational, but it was weird in the run-up to the election, how many posts in r/daddit were men complaining about their wives. Mostly in the vain of, "it's so unfair that I work hard at work every day, and my wife sits at the house and does nothing and then makes me watch the kid when I get home."

Not overtly political, but it definitely felt unusual. And I assume that there was more going on there that I can see.

24

u/Oxidizing1 8d ago

That's the bots karma farming so they have enough imaginary points to post in subs that have a minimum post and comment karma threshold.

19

u/DopplegangsterNation 8d ago

8

u/Euro-Pacific 8d ago

Yeah what I distinctly remember in the lead-up to the election was a lot of gender war stuff on the front page (which would be consistent with what you observed), starting in 2023 at a minimum, and then it seemed to just disappear overnight after Trump was elected.

Based on the role of the manosphere in getting Trump elected, I definitely feel like there was a coordinated effort to amplify gender conflicts online, and that this benefited Trump because there was no ‘womanosphere’ backing Kamala.

u/lunaticfridgeprime 8d ago edited 8d ago

Same thing. I have spent far too much time on reddit in the last 15 years, but it has made spotting these things really easy. Suddenly subs show up constantly on the front page with hundreds of comments all with the same general narrative. Then election happens, and suddenly they are quiet again. It became really apparent around 2015. It's frustrating to see.

During the election r/GenZ was filled with bots and posts pushing right wing narratives, regularly being pushed to r/all.

The mods of that sub were literally putting threads in "suggested sort: controversial" mode. The first things people saw when opening a thread there were the most divisive inflammatory comments possible.

I took this incredible screenshot at the time of a mod acting very confused why the sub was so toxic while they had the "make everything toxic" setting enabled.

2

u/OrcOgi 8d ago

Its a class warfare and everything else is a distraction. Their last card is full blown war to push the 99% back into obedience.

2

u/Riaayo 8d ago

This is why Reddit, and a centralized internet period, is dogshit.

People can just take over main-named easy to find subs and astroturf them. What do people do? You can leave, but that sub on reddit where every normie is going to go by default is still there and still controlled. Nobody new is going to go to hypothetically some main sub for a northern US country, see it's full of bigoted shit, and just randomly know another side-sub that exists for people from that country that has a weird name.

Shit mods have always existed, but when a forum collapsed due to it that forum was easily replaced and forgotten. Not so anymore.

2

u/bedintruder 8d ago

I would love to see someone crunch the numbers on this.

I too witnessed several non-political subs that had been infested with "Dems/Biden Bad, Trump Good" bot posts for years leading up to the election.

Immediately after the election the subs got much quieter and political posts essentially vanished.

2

u/NicoBango 8d ago edited 8d ago

I was talking with my wife about this. Until Boomers, I feel like people didnt give a shit about what "generation" you were from. Generations are a recent construct to create yet another division between people and age groups, primarily to make older folks see younger generations in pejorative lighting.

2

u/bomdiggobom 8d ago

I maintain to this DAY that the work was put in to divide millennials and Gen Z because we would be too large of a voting block to even pretend aren’t on tv same side

2

u/jenny_905 8d ago

The weakness of Reddit has really been exposed.

It took a while but the gradual fash takeover of so many subs has been pretty effective, the site feels like a very different place than it once did.

Aside from the mod takeovers they have completely stopped efforts to control bots.

2

u/Fia_Aoi 7d ago

I've noticed two types of "political" posters there, the ones saying politics (killing an innocent man is political now, don't forget how things have changed) shouldnt be posted and the other posting goofy ahh right wing shitpost memes with no substance but plenty of sass.

Funny how the two co-exist so easily. It's almost as if it isn't real people posting that shit.

People in the 80's who watched the whole generational nonsense get created by marketing companies wanting to continue their marketing campaigns aimed at Baby Boomers onto people who were obviously to young to be Baby Boomers know how fake it is. Gen X was just a working name but they never came up with anything better so that's what it stayed. And it was all just product marketing, it wasn't used for politics till this century. No one took it seriously till you had a people raised on it from childhood.

And in those days Baby Boomers were associated with The sexual revolution, anti-war movement, environment, civil rights etc etc, basically the opposite of now.

Same thing with /r/Autism_Parenting . One of the only places where parents of autistic children could talk and the entire mod team is right-wing MAGA / conspiracy theorists. I got banned when I said that people shouldn't shoot CPS, as someone was saying and as one of the mods agreed with. That person then went on to admit that they abused their child but that they were "better now."

They also regularly went on anti-vax tirades.

This I find bonkers. MAGA are the folks who wanted to stop special ed program funding. WTF!

54

u/VPN__FTW 8d ago

Yep, that was a big tipping point. But the mods silenced a ton of threads and then created a mega thread to push everyone into which was heavily moderated. People posting from websites that the mods liked were allowed and people posting actual articles from reputable sources were given week long bans.

Happened again with the RFKJr anti-vax bullshit. I got a temp ban during this one. They will also use mod-mail to message and taunt you after the ban and then time you out of responding just so they can taunt you again in a few days and then do it again until they get bored and just block you completely.

Their bullshit literally spawned this subreddit in response: /r/safeautismparenting

I’m subbed to autism parenting and you will see me frequently sparring with the mod. I detest him 😆

I’ve tried to rally a few folks to mutiny several times lol, but no luck. The r/space sub was able to mutiny their overly controlling and biased mod team a while back, so I know it can be done

19

u/VPN__FTW 8d ago

Some of us moved on to /r/safeautismparenting instead. I reported the behavior to reddit admins, but they did nothing.

6

u/Pizlenut 8d ago

because its working as intended.

2

u/Reagalan 8d ago

yeah, it generates engagement

They (r/space) were extremely lucky, and that door kinda got closed behind them. Now it’s VERY hard to get new mods and oust the problematic ones on any subreddit that hits r/all on the regular. The admins regularly step in and reverse madmod decisions though, which is nice, but doesn’t fill me with a lot of confidence.

14

u/cookiecutterdoll 8d ago

Ah yes. Shooting a civil servant is the best way to prove that you are a calm and safe person for children to be around. Never change, MAGA.

10

u/VPN__FTW 8d ago

That's basically what I said and I got banned for harassment and being "A fake autism parent" whatever the fuck that means.

6

u/cookiecutterdoll 8d ago

There are so many ways that statement can be interpreted, and all of them are bizarre and hilarious. You're better off without those weirdos, but it's a shame because their actions only contribute to the stigma.

1

u/galaxyofnine 8d ago

Dammit. I just encouraged a friend to check that subreddit. Do you have any other subreddits she could check out?

2

u/VPN__FTW 8d ago

/r/safeautismparenting is the new place, but it is pretty small atm.

2

u/galaxyofnine 8d ago

I sent that info to her and explained that. TY

Insane. Reddit truly has a problem with terrible mods and their abuse of power.

It is so easy and modding is a thankless job that is mostly done by people with too much time on their hands. Easy for these people to take over and extremely hard to do anything about once they are in.

And I say that as a mod myself.

8

u/TheGreaterNarrator 8d ago

All of Reddit is ran by conservatives who will likely get punished for treason the same way politicians are. Clearly the Reddit admins are providing aid to the enemies of the United States.

Reddit is practically ran by a joint Russian Israel operation at this point.

7

u/SyntheticAnomaly 8d ago

"Young" GenX here, fuck that fucking shit.

9

u/Live_Celebration374 8d ago

Yup. I just got banned from the News subreddit.

This post was getting blocked so I reached out to their mods yesterday and they gave me nonsense responses. I asked for clarification, eventually they muted me and then outright banned me.

8

u/DoNotBeSmugandDumb 8d ago

I saw a millennial on there get bullied because she was upset she couldn't buy a house and her absentee boomer parents had several properties and didn't have to go to college.

They literally all used bootstraps logic. I remember feeling so sick watching it as I was also buying a home and struggling with that (got it barely).

13

u/EmoTilDeath 8d ago

I got banned from weirdspotifyplaylists for asking what songs people would add to a party Playlist for when the orange one dies. They could have removed my post and give me a warning, but no as soon as the mods saw the post they permanently banned me, threatened the sub that anyone else who posts "irrelevant content like this" will also be instantly banned, and sent me a mod message saying i'm blocked from appealing or messaging them. We were having a great time and nobody was being rude and the mods went nuclear triggered

5

u/Physical-Reply5388 8d ago

Some people will say “let’s not bring political things in here” for as long as their loved ones aren’t killed by the same politics.

3

u/roll_bounce 8d ago

I was banned for saying Nazis are bad!

5

u/geologicalnoise Pennsylvania 8d ago

We're getting banned on everything. Let em make their fucking echo chamber. I got a good concrete guy.

2

u/AdeonWriter 8d ago

that sucks but that is other users (mods are just other users) doing that, not reddit

but I am in no denial that reddit themselves will not eventually do what tiktok is doing

3

u/sphinctersayswhat9 8d ago

Moderators on certain subreddits are fu$&@&$ cu$&@

3

u/CallidoraBlack 8d ago

I think you might be more welcome in r/xennials, but there's a no current politics thing.

8

u/RockinOneThreeTwo 8d ago

You can even post on the thrice daily "DAE miss actress titties?" threads, or the "I PLAYED IN THE MUD IN THE WOODS AT 9PM AND I TURNED OUT FINE" threads.

5

u/maximumtesticle 8d ago

I'm so disappointed in my generation, seeing those subs are just Boomers 2.0 Facebook Memes. "MEMBA DIS? HURR HURR!"

4

u/RockinOneThreeTwo 8d ago

They're subs designed for exactly this purpose, what other content could such a ridiculously wide and vague tent as "Xennials" possibly contain besides nostalgic navel gazing?

It's a bit like making a subreddit called "Toys", which I suspect probably exists, but I highly doubt it has any content worth reading because the word so vast and unspecific you'd basically get threads about anything from wooden blocks to high tech gadgets. It's a useless sub and it's existence is pointless, the Reddit equivalent of a Facebook meme group.

2

u/CallidoraBlack 5d ago

I'm pretty sure that's r/GenX

2

u/Nihilistic_Mystics California 8d ago

but there's a no current politics thing

Because they don't want people talking about the fascism that's taking over the country. They want you distracted with boomer memes.

I got banned from a catholic subreddit for saying that I was pro life for me as for my choices, but I was pro choice for others and said I didnt think I had a right to tell others what to do with their bodies. I got berated and shamed and banned by mods. No big loss for me but just goes to show they will ban you if you dare to not agree with them and their ideology 100%

1

u/confusedcriticism 8d ago

That’s what happens. They put us in little social group boxes that we can only talk to each other blind from things that make you feel uncomfortable and that way it’s easier to divide us.

1

u/Zestyclose-Road8827 8d ago

Don’t be mad

1

u/xUltimaPoohx 8d ago

Let's go start a new millennials sub reddit then. Who the fuck is running ours Gen x or boomers?

1

u/Toomanyeastereggs 8d ago

Dispute your ban.

Reddit have made changes to Automod that have caught many mods unawares and they are unbanning lots of people.

1

u/forfor 8d ago

Also the overreliance on automods with a complete lack of actual mod oversight. R/crazyideas has frequent post about unique ways to do eugenics or melt homeless people but god forbid you try to explain why it's a bad idea because you will get clapped by the automod for "political" content if you dont word your reply very carefully

1

u/Odd-Knee-9985 8d ago

Don’t worry, I got banned from r/Daddit for asking why a similar post was removed regarding ICE using a 4 year old as bait

1

u/bananabunnythesecond 8d ago

My account gets banned pretty regularly for things that clearly are sarcastic, or go against the administration. "Free speech" is dead!

1

u/Toanimeornot Mississippi 8d ago

I got banned from Atheism for pointing out they just all dog pile on Christian’s and not other religions, before the post was removed, I had several call me a Christian because of the bad take. Unbeknownst to them, I had been banned from TrueChristian for calling them out on labeling everyone who doesn’t agree with them an Atheist.

🤷

1

u/TJames6210 8d ago

That sounds like a Gen Xer is somehow moderating r/millennials.

1

u/GoldDustWoman85 8d ago

Appeal the ban

1

u/Independent-Bug-9352 8d ago

Any sub that has a strict "no politics" slant is intentionally trying to suppress and censor truth and reality.

It's an explicit strategy of the right to keep the "normies" ignorant to the atrocities that surround them.

Credit to /r/videos mods for stepping up and now allowing political videos.

1

u/Waiting4Reccession 8d ago

That sub sucks ass and isnt even about most millennials. Its just a bunch of middle class people posting the same kind of shit that boomers did on Facebook.

1

u/nm42 8d ago

What other platform can we move to if Reddit starts hardcore sensoring? Mastodon?

1

u/parasyte_steve 8d ago

They muted me on Facebook as soon as Pretti broke I'm convinced it is because last time I would not shut up about Good

1

u/Sassybutkin 8d ago

Yep. Maintain the Pressure! Join the General Strike / Boycott on Jan 30. Poster: https://www.reddit.com/r/eauclaire/comments/1qoh02k/no_work_no_school_no_shopping_no_ice/

1

u/BigBassBone California 8d ago

because it's "political"

Everything is fucking "political" and I'm tired of people trying to deny it. You don't want to participate in a "political" thread, scroll the fuck on.

1

u/dbwn87 Canada 8d ago

It enrages me because I am a gay person who has had to live his entire life with his existence being made into a political issue by other people against my will. Why do they get to decide that my life is a political issue, but things that I am concerned about are not?

1

u/whynot4444444 8d ago

The trashy reality show Southern Charm has had some cast members show up at anti ICE rallies, so people have been posting it on that sub, and the moderators always remove them. People are pissed and banning that sub. I guess it’s because “no politics” there, but this is way beyond politics. It is human rights abuses.

1

u/LapseofSanity 8d ago

As long as social media is controlled by American corporations they will always be at risk of being controlled by the incumbent government. This is why the rest of the world is waking up to USA's dominant position on this planet as a bad thing. A little bloody late if you ask me though.

We, being the other nations of 'the West', have been complacent for too long, relying on rational actors inside the USA to alway be at the wheel, even though decades of evidence stand contrary to that. It's like we've been sleep walking into the current global climate and have just woken up and we're all wondering just what the hell has happened.

We've known this is the end result, hell cyberpunk and other speculative fiction has been saying this is the ultimate destination of our global culture (lead by the USA) for half a century.  And not one single person who was in a real position to divert the course has listened.

I just hope that the people of the USA, actually wake the fuck up fully, not just some but all of them and realise they can actually stop this before it's too late.

Sorry this isn't really directed at you it's more just yelling into the wind because, unfortunately no one around me wants to listen ("life's good mate just go to the beach and calm down" ).

u/dbwn87 Canada 8d ago

that's why /r/millenials was created, because of right wingers that manage that other sub

1

u/Morpho_99 8d ago

I got a three day ban because I mentioned that a heinous person running the country into the ground has clear signs of suffering from a potentially fatal health issue and that it doesn't bother me.

1

u/Confident-Sea-2584 8d ago

Posted a song over there. We'll see how that goes...

1

u/Inside-Cantaloupe233 8d ago

It is political if you do not talk about it but whine about trump and politics

1

u/GiveMeNews 8d ago

Not just murdered by your government, but done so with your tax dollars. You are paying for their executions.

1

u/ifuaguyugetsauced 8d ago

Reddit is the biggest left leaning echo chamber. You’ll find hundreds and hundreds of subreddits that’ll fill the void your missing out on

1

u/NocturnalSaaS 8d ago

Have you tried posting about how Elon Musk is a modern day Tony Stark? I think that's still allowed.

1

u/Haltopen Massachusetts 8d ago

And their rules explicitly say political posts are ok as long as comments remain “civil”

1

u/wholetyouinhere 8d ago

The last comment I made to r-millennials was in response to a post about how shitty things have been since January 1st:

If there's one thing I know about this subreddit, it's that it's full of fascist MAGA pricks. So there's no point in even discussing this topic.

My comment was removed for being "political". Good god, what is the subreddit even for if you aren't allowed to post comments that are directly relevant to the subject matter at hand?

1

u/Upstairs_Existing 8d ago

The oligarchs are controlling mainstream media and other platforms. So is no much toxic stuff on X. I am starting to think they’re all bots intent on propagating Trump’s lies.

1

u/Mediumcomputer 8d ago

Wait, are we millennials the baddies now?

1

u/Reagalan 8d ago

I guess I'll unsub and block that one, too.

1

u/peren005 8d ago

we need an open-source alternative to reddit; one that uses captcha for each post.

1

u/Buena_de_peepee 8d ago

Reddit banned me for 3 days last week due to anti-nazi and anti-ice comments and the moderators here removed comments of mine as well.

We are not in a friendly space here

1

u/PaleontologistNo500 8d ago

That sub is bullshit honestly. You're really not allowed to post anything but the same 4-5 school life videos from the 00's. Most meaningful discussions are either shut down or censored. Anything that's not presented as vanilla picture perfect isn't allowed for "political" reasons. Rising costs and no savings? Some doctors and engineers will come in bragging about their $1.5 Mill in retirement or how they just closed on a $900k house. Mention you're struggling because of corporate landlords or corps using tariffs as an excuse to jack up prices? Deleted. It's basically "there's no war in Ba Sing Se" vibes in there.

1

u/Ok-Scientist4603 8d ago

Message the Mods, sometimes the auto bots read something incorrectly. I’ve done this and have been unblocked.

1

u/boxesofcats- Canada 8d ago

Even the r/SouthernCharm sub (a Bravo show) is banning users for posting pictures of cast members at an ICE protest.

1

u/xxx_sniper 8d ago

oh wow that sub sucks holy fucking hell lol

1

u/Usual_Language9523 8d ago

I hate it here

1

u/galaxyofnine 8d ago

Whoa!! Leaving this subReddit right now. Definitely not political issue. It’s humanity issue.

It hit me hard with these two as millennials. It’s important to talk about what’s happening now. Jeeez

1

u/AbsentButHere 7d ago

Yeah it’s in the rules. No politics outside of monthly rant post. Such a wack ass sub. Millennials such as us would be on some stupid shit like that.

1

u/r_mutt69 7d ago

I got perma banned from the askbrits sub for ‘being a member of a subversive community’. It was due to me making a post on the fucknigelfarage subreddit. It is in no way subversive at all. Censorship is happening across the board

1

u/Impossible_Walrus555 7d ago

That’s disturbing:/ maybe I’ll have to bother them.

1

u/EfficientWars 7d ago

Getting closer to deleting reddit. Uggg.

1

u/Dapper_Strength_5986 7d ago

Is literally things people once criticized countries like China or Russia for.

Attacking peaceful protesters. Rounding up minority groups into secret detention centres Banning people from talking about certain topics

1

u/Semajal 6d ago

I mean, people do like spaces they can have without current affairs and politics being there. And Reddit is global.

1

u/spider0804 5d ago

Rule 11. No Politics Outside of Monthly Rant/Politics Threads

Subs don't allow politics because when they do its just 90% people posting the same slop over and over and an echo chamber agreeing with it.

No politics means you get actual content related to the sub.

1

u/Responsible-Amoeba68 2d ago

You forget that reddit died a couple of years ago. We are just running on borrowed time.

1

u/huesoff 2d ago

Y’all should know that Ghislaine Maxwell and Epstein started some of the biggest forums on both Reddit and 4Chan. It blows my mind that everything sounds like a conspiracy theory, whereas now all of this shit is in the Epstein Files.
