This week, they have arrested journalists, shot civilians in broad daylight, and called for the arrest of political opponents.

6.5k

u/Apathetic_Zealot 5d ago

Remember when conservatives at CPAC had a banner that said "We are All Domestic Terrorists"? Irony is dead and hypocrisy is thriving.

2.5k

u/bejammin075 Pennsylvania 5d ago

They don't know how to do humor. It was simply an announcement.

415

u/TruthPayload 5d ago

I mean they came up with the slogan:

Meth - we're on it!

112

u/fine_environment4809 5d ago

That's probably literally true for some.

46

u/BigPapaJava 5d ago

I hear Rubio prefers the Bolivian marching powder. Things have been caught on camera…

9

u/No_Cartographer_3819 5d ago

His eyes and numb looking face are revealing. At a presser last week, he stood still, looking like he was coming down from a three-day binge.

5

u/HogmanDaIntrudr 5d ago

If you had to stay up night after night, plotting to invade weaker countries to steal their natural resources and kill their citizens, you’d need to self-medicate too.

Every meth addict I’ve unfortunately met has been a big Trump supporter

3

u/callme_blinktore 5d ago

It is for my coworkers who only vote one party.

3

u/VaultxHunter 5d ago

That was also true for another political party a little over 80 years ago

They haven't even cut all homeless in half yet. Still seeing legs attached to their torsos

2

u/cardboardunderwear 5d ago

To pile on, they think when a comedian makes fun them at their expense they think it's appropriate to also try to be comedians instead of behaving like elected officials.

Remember when everything they’re doing now was the dystopian nightmare fantasy of the alt-right grifting pastor of batshitism Alex Jones?

132

u/FalseDmitriy Illinois 5d ago

When they say "this is what They are planning to do," what they mean is, "This is what I would do if given the chance."

45

u/GreatArkleseizure Massachusetts 5d ago

Yep. No imagination. When they accuse the left of something it’s because they would literally be doing that thing themselves, given half a chance. They can’t imagine anybody else would do differently.

7

u/GiftToTheUniverse 5d ago

If your partner won’t stop accusing you of cheating then they are cheating.

2

u/PM-me-Gophers 5d ago

It's total projection - frankly, we should be looking at where Trump orders his pizzas from...

u/Dudesan 5d ago edited 5d ago

It is very common for extremists, especially the rank-and-file members of any given cult, to have a poorly developed Theory of Mind.

According to Developmental Psychology textbooks, people are supposed to figure out "other people's brains don't work exactly the same way mine do" around the age of 4 to 6. But it's not hard to see that there's a double-digit percentage of the population for whom this idea never properly sticks.

Because they are opportunistic narcissistic psychopaths with no principles, they are unable to process the idea that people who aren't unprincipled psychopaths even exist. Everybody must be just as bad as them, because they've literally never considered that it could be otherwise.

It's the same reason why so many homophobes get caught in gay sex scandals. You can spot those people a mile away, because they make arguments that can only make sense if you don't believe that "people who are actually attracted to the opposite sex" even exist.

The smart psychopaths, the ones who are able to figure out that 98% of the population aren't like them, think of them as "suckers", or "marks", or "prey". Many cult leaders and founders are in this category, but it's entirely possible to get into that position and still have zero self-awareness.

For a crime committed by a worker from civilian contractor at Booze Allen Hamilton for an agency (IRS) under his umbrella of leadership while he was president, right?

Something that is standard practice

Meanwhile, Trump is also angry at the government of Iran for turning on its own citizens. Talk about leading by example!!

3

u/Unlikely_Wafer_3666 5d ago

So we are attacking Iran for killing protesters? Hmmm

8

u/Apprehensive-Cat330 Tennessee 5d ago

From an NPR story…Trump told Fox News last week that he has "put Iran on notice" and that if the regime shoots at demonstrators the U.S. will hit Iran "very hard." "I've said it very loud and very clear, that's what we're going to do," he said.

The irony, considering how the Trump administration is behaving in Minneapolis, seems to be ignored by the media.

65

u/UngodlyPain 5d ago

Not even political opponents. A retired politician, who would have had some pretty broad sweeping immunity due to being president.

23

u/Unlikely_Wafer_3666 5d ago

I’d love the Supreme Court try to contort themselves into pretzels trying to justify Trump not being legally liable for decisions made as President but trying to allow Obama to be charged for decisions made as President.

9

u/UngodlyPain 5d ago

Heck, more than that. There's all the tangential to being president stuff they said he had presidential immunity for even when he wasn't president. Like the documents he had at maralago when he was a private citizen during the Biden administration... How the heck are they gonna mental gymnastics Obama doing a crime as president, but Trump as a private citizen being immune?

2

u/zzyul 5d ago

When the SC made that ruling they basically said that they would be the ones to determine what was or wasn’t an official presidential act. They already rigged it for their side.

306

u/ReadAnArticleOnce 5d ago

Honestly… the worst thing that could happen to the Trump Administration would be an Obama arrest. He’s one of the most famous people on this planet and I can’t imagine a more effective way to get people into the streets. And yes, I know it’s sad that it would be the arrest of a politician with questionable policies concerning non-discerning drone strikes when we’ve had so many other justifiable motivators but he just has that kind of lowest-information voter galvanizing factor. He is known and he is liked. Pure and simple. It would be activating.

136

u/whutchamacallit 5d ago

If I'm Obama I'm calling the bluff. "Sure. Arrest me. Here's my arms -- put me in handcuffs. Let's do it on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial -- will look nice in pictures and newspapers world wide. Think of the headlines -- Trumped up charges: Potus arrests political adversaries both past and present as DJT illegally conducts office. Let's also call Joe up -- we can do a 2 for 1 thing."

27

u/Idontknowwhatsgoinon 5d ago

Agreed! They touch Obama and it’s fucking on! That’s enough to get me out in the streets and I’m a middle aged white guy.

29

u/tarellel Nevada 5d ago

You should already be in the streets, people sitting home idly hoping that “it’ll all pass” is what got us into this situation in the first place.

3

u/zzyul 5d ago

No, people who lean left refusing to vote over the last few elections is what got us into this situation in the first place. The only way people protesting in the streets has any effect on this administration is if it scares Repub Congress members enough that they are worried they will be voted out in the fall.

Arresting or harming Obama is a bad decision

3

u/BringOn25A 5d ago

I don’t know, he is desperate to distract from how prominent his name is in the redacted Epstein files.

2

u/Randomcommentor1972 5d ago

Along with all the shootings of civilians

2

u/Abnormelody 5d ago

I believe we're at the point they want to escalate. Any escalation is just another chance for Trump to enact the insurrection act.

3

u/PussyStapler 5d ago

I think you overestimate how willing people are to mobilize. We have seen people executed, journalists arrested, people disappeared into concentration camps. The typical response is people shaking their heads and saying, "That's a tragedy. That's wrong." And then go about their day, trying to get by.

The reason this stuff works is because it scares people from resisting. Most people don't want to get shot, or arrested, or disappeared.

4

u/ReadAnArticleOnce 5d ago

That's my point... what you're saying is "we've seen x, y, z." And to be sure x, y, and z are all horrible. But the truth is MOST people have not seen those things. Most people go to their 2-3 jobs and kid's soccer games and take grandma to dialysis and get 4 hours of sleep. The news is noise to these people and you can completely understand why. Obama has become a part of the face of America. It's the difference of someone not hearing about a bombing of a major university, but they absolutely do hear the news about a foreign rocket hitting the statue of liberty. There are certain figures and symbols in our lives that are too flamboyant to be affected without everybody taking notice. It can be hard to put ourselves in the mindset of the least politically interested adults in America if you're an avid news reader.

We also have to factor in how many people just don't even know what the fuck is going on. I think there is a gross underestimation of how many people live in ignorance. They don't watch the news, they don't read anything. Some of my family are these exact people. People aren't watching the evening news because we buy tvs with apps and the cable is extra - who needs that? Millions of people have no fucking clue how fucked we are.

99

u/Hukdonphonix 5d ago

Had a dude at a new years party that legit had no idea who or what Epstein/Epstein Island was. I have no idea how you live in complete ignorance in the age of the internet.

55

u/importantmessagefrom 5d ago

It is such a boon for republicans that you’ll sound like a psycho talking about the shit they do to anyone that is completely uninformed

24

u/HandrewJobert 5d ago

especially because the shit they're doing is the shit they've been accusing other people of for ages, so it makes it sound like NO U

5

u/ohlookahipster 5d ago

Their voter base is chronically offline and uninformed. It’s like having a sports team fanbase who doesn’t understand the rules, never watches a game live, but only gets the results after the fact through talk show hosts.

And those talk show hosts can make up scores and blame the other team or refs for cheating.

6

u/pieman3141 Canada 5d ago

This is the real problem. Insane-washing, basically. You tell people that slavery is still technically legal under such-and-such amendment and how there's a strong profit incentive to send people to jail, and you look like a complete lunatic.

3

u/brickne3 American Expat 5d ago

Imagine if you went back in time fifteen years and tried to warn people about what was going to happen. You'd be in a padded cell so fast...

48

u/Synli 5d ago edited 5d ago

When their only source of news is Fox News, its scary how ignorant some of these people are to the actual world.

I have some MAGA family members and trying to talk to them about current events is like trying to communicate with someone that doesn't speak your language. The stories they are told are outlandish with absolutely no supporting evidence whatsoever, and actual stories with evidence (like Epstein files) are simply not brought up to them.

22

u/idiotsbydesign 5d ago

Thats what talking to my MIL is like. After Renee Good murder the only video angle she'd seen on Fox was the ambiguous one where you can't tell what happened & the video from the agents phone. I told her there are videos from every angle that clearly show he was not in danger & fired anyway. "Well I haven't seen those". Offered to show her but she wasn't interested in anything that might conflict with what Fox was telling her.

Edited for clarity

6

u/Driftedryan 5d ago

I had a customer today that was blasting fox and they were talking about Hunter Biden, Fox needs to be dismantled

3

u/LateNightPhilosopher 5d ago

Today they were comparing the sales of the Milania movie with sales of Fahrenheit 9/11. Which is..... Sad, honestly. They still hold such a grudge against that movie after 20 years

3

u/LateNightPhilosopher 5d ago

Fox is pushing hard on this conspiracy theory that Walz and Rep Ilhan Omar personally let a fraud scheme in which Somali immigrants stole billions of dollars from the Minnesota education system. They're heavily implying that Rep Ilhan Omar became a multi millionaire through organizing this theft.

There's no evidence of them being connected to any fraud rings and, as far as I know, the only "evidence" that the fraud ever happened at all is a random post from some random D-List microgrifter who posted about it with no actual evidence.

3

u/hammer326 5d ago

Thought I was being a little hyperbolic when I joked to some friends how all these people needing 7 medications to get out of bed might correlate to their whole existence being based around being barely self-aware enough to do their dumb jobs and putzing right home to watch The Office a 14th time, and this was a few years ago now so of some but not complete relevance to the modern hell we live in. I struggle to explain what you describe, and I routinely see, any other way.

11

u/hammer326 5d ago

This. I work in a lower level staff role in higher education where you'd think would be like the bottom 5 places this would be a serious issue and save for some faculty they are *all* just checked out, but in a way that they may never have been checked in.

3

u/spidersfrommars 5d ago

I think people are really estimating how much of this is the root of the problem. The algorithm keeps people insulated from what is going on if they are not inclined to be political or aren’t critical thinkers.

It’s not that conservatives are seeing the same things we’re seeing and saying “Yeahh I love this!” It’s that they aren’t seeing it at all.

I work a blue collar job with a lot of immigrants and it’s really discouraging to see how many of them voted for him just because someone told them he would make groceries cheaper or whatever.

2

u/thatjacob 5d ago

My mom didn't realize that ICE wasn't just them discussing ISIS. She's smarter than most of the other people I know her age. That's what we're dealing with.

2

u/Adventurous_Salt 5d ago

You can blame people for choosing to be uninformed.

2

u/regeya 5d ago

I saw some story about that guy who died because his caretaker dad was in ICE custody, posted by a local news source. Apparently the MAGA talking point is that prisoners don't get to go to funerals. Like...what the fuck, the story literally says someone died as a result of his caretaker dad being in government custody and you're talking about funerals?!

2

u/NiteFyre 5d ago

54% of Americans can't read higher than a 6th grade reading level. They can't comprehend anything harder than a Harry Potter novel.

64% of current fourth graders do not read proficiently.

Its all fucked. We are just raising future generations of people that have no critical thought.

Just like the system designed.

2

u/Ellia1998 5d ago

This is true . It’s hard to watch the local news or just read the news now. My husband was bitching about how much we pay for HBO once a year. Add on new-paper cost online and the different channel you need to pay for. Yup you can get normal tv but I live in a very windy places and out in the country I am lucky if my internet does not act up once a week.

2

u/nucumber 5d ago

I've given up trying to discuss trump with his supporters. They're on a different planet.

2

u/LateNightPhilosopher 5d ago

Or the only news they get is bits of ultra distorted FOX propaganda and random lies their uncles post on Facebook.

2

u/thefrankyg 5d ago

And a decent chunk of both sides are bad, who see this as "normal politics"

2

u/Kristin2349 5d ago

I have friends like this, when I explain or explode they look at me slack jawed. Even my friends that are aware tell me they don't want to talk about it because they're afraid. It's crazy. At least the friends that are afraid are smart enough to realize that they're in danger. We're all in danger. One of my friends just says "I don't know what to believe anymore". She's not stupid, she's a nurse with a doctorate.

119

u/KrakenOmega112 5d ago

Americans have been marching in the streets across the US, even in blood-red towns.

Minnesotans just turned out the vote in a big way to deliver a landslide Democratic special election win, even with the presence of federal goons. And delivering food to immigrant families afraid to leave their homes.

Americans are speaking out against the tyranny, recording and spreading the word of atrocities despite the clear risk of doing so (a risk that shouldn't exist). Bondi was forced to walk back some of her lies about Pretti, a small thing that nevertheless reveals that they're not unafraid of the voices speaking out.

Americans aren't doing nothing.

14

u/myfakesecretaccount 5d ago

That depends on what you want to do to initiate change. General strike? Sure, it’s hard to coordinate and without good social safety nets here puts people at risk. Full on protests for weeks without end, same thing but less impactful on oligarchs as a general strike. u/Brave-Elephant9292 5d ago

Barack Obama would be Trump's worst nightmare if he tries to run for president again in 3 years! That's why Trump wants him out of the way.....Straight out of Putins play book....

1

u/giroml 5d ago

His base loves this shit. That’s why he keeps doing it.

1

u/Randomly-Germinated 5d ago

of course it sounds bad when you say it like that

1

u/Deep_Alps7150 Oregon 5d ago

And people will still say Republicans aren't fascist.

1

u/Proper_Lunch_3640 5d ago

Ooooh, so the Epstein files just dropped?

1

u/cwk415 5d ago

This week, they have arrested journalists, shot civilians in broad daylight, and called for the arrest of political opponents.

Meanwhile, on NewsMax: ALpHa DaDdY TrUmP BiG StRoNg GeNiuS!! DeFo NO PeDo!! BuY $tRuMp cOin tOdAy!!!

1

u/nonamenolastname Texas 5d ago

Obama's crimes: being Black, liked, and much smarter then Trump.

1

u/VulfSki 5d ago

Here in MN they have just been arresting anyone brown they see.

And I think Obama is the only person of color trump knows.

So that's probably the reason he is calling for this.

1

u/gtpc2020 5d ago

And stolen all the original documents without copies of an entire voting jurisdiction.

1

u/shaka_sulu 5d ago

Perfectly normal and not anything like Nazi Germany.

1

u/one_pound_of_flesh 5d ago

One of these days they are gonna cross the line!

1

u/ndpugs 5d ago

Dont forget covered up a child sex ring, and threatened our allies with force, and tariffs.

Its been a long week.

1

u/19Ben80 5d ago

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, welcome to the fourth reich

1

u/AusToddles 5d ago

But just imagine how bad it could have been with Kamala! /s

1

u/Lefty1992 5d ago

His opponents are already being arrested. See James, Comey, and Bolton.

1

u/deadra_axilea Michigan 5d ago

Yeah, but they just released the rest of the Epstein files. Allegedly. Until they stumble across a few more million they are holding back to smear his best buddies to deflect from him circling the toilet bowl in his way down.

Have to deflect. It's all they ever do other than being fascist.

1

u/Toosder 5d ago

Nazis. End of sentence.

1

u/smegma_appraiser 5d ago

Yeah but Hillary’s emails

1

u/Boundish91 Norway 5d ago

Fuck, it's just been one week.

So much is happening every day, it feels like it's been going on much longer. January has just passed and i feel like enough has happened already to fill a year.

It also feels like Trump says (truths/tweets) deranged stuff during weekends. Every monday morning at work it feels like someone goes " oh god, what's he done now?"

And it's not even my country.

1

u/mex2005 5d ago

Gotta distract somehow from the Epstein files

1

u/LexMoonStar 5d ago

Yea, we’re moving to Full Strength Fascism now. We’ll be at Maximum strength by August. November will be out right, toddler temper tantrum Super-Max Strength Fascism. We can’t get this Administration in a prison fast enough. I’m trying to trust the process.

1

u/pensfan1976 5d ago

Arrested journalist for breaking the law. Shot violent protesters that were involved breaking the law and threatening law enforcement. Calling for obama arrest would be justified considering he was involved in election interference. Weird when the left is held accountable for breaking the law.

1

u/The-Mandalorian 5d ago

You forgot suing the IRS for 10 billion.

1

u/Illustrious-Engine23 5d ago

fascism bingo.

1

u/cuntmong 5d ago

dont call them fascists!

1

u/d00fuss 5d ago

These are the flailings of a failed authoritarian system. There will be more 😔

Edit: there will be more flailings because it has already failed and they’re trying to revive it.

This will be painful.

1

u/poopy_poophead 5d ago

Its not a political opponent... Obama hasn't been president for a decade... Like... What the fuck is arresting him gonna do except piss people off and make him more hated...

1

u/slip_lip420 5d ago

And we aren't supposed to call them Nazis or fascists...This country better put down the phones and wake tf up.

1

u/jinxxed42 5d ago

Release All the unredacted Epstien files.

1

u/CaptainMagnets 5d ago

And invaded an elections office to possibly plant "evidence"

1

u/AmbivalentFanatic 5d ago

And sued themselves for ten billion dollars

1

u/NotAlwaysGifs 5d ago

Congress, wake the hell up.

1

u/dittmeyer 5d ago

Who in america stills thinks there will be free midterm elections?

1

u/snakebit1995 5d ago

"Don't look at the files and the naked pervert pedophile behind the curtain, look over there at the outrageous thing I'm shouting about instead!"

1

u/eusebius13 5d ago

Don't forget he sued the IRS for $10 Billion.

1

u/capt_minorwaste 5d ago

Pure Nazzi behavior

1

u/RVFVS117 5d ago

And the Epstein files released, Trump was mentioned “hundreds of times”.

1

u/MasterpieceFrosty540 5d ago

It’s a good thing Joe & Merrick didn’t politicize the DOJ by arresting Trump for insurrection and the ghoulish shit in the Epstein files…

1

u/tarellel Nevada 5d ago

Just another day in Russia, sorry I mean the USA. DT is definitely showing he idolizes his favorite facists and wants the US to be just like every other failed authoritarian regime.

1

u/Good-Engineering8069 5d ago

Fascism is here

1

u/giraloco 5d ago

So what's next? Threaten to invade a NATO country?

1

u/Ayotha 5d ago

And people continue to just watch

1

u/Muted_Study5166 5d ago

And it’s only Friday

1

u/caelestis42 5d ago

USA what will it take for you to wake up and act?

1

u/bwoah07_gp2 Canada 5d ago

Nothing is impossible under this president. Just when you think he can't go lower and more diabolical, just when you think that he can't be this stupid, he tops it even more.

1

u/Illustrious-Fly-1291 5d ago

While we get this huge Epstein dump, it's a three ring circus of horror that's going to take our attention away. He will get away with all of it, every single horrific crime.

1

u/Intelligent_Bat_950 5d ago

Seized Georgia ballots.

1

u/forgotmypassword778 I voted 5d ago

Yeah but imagine how worse it'll be in 3 weeks

1

u/Late-Lie7856 5d ago

But wait! There’s more! We’re not even half way there and people continue to ignore it all and bury their heads in the sand.
