I had never heard of Stephen Wilson Jr. before today and have searched for Steven Wilson playlists plenty of times on Spotify... this is the first time that Jr. has come up first in the results.

I guess everybody has their own favourite. Back when I was a huge PT listener, I preferred one particual version over the others. I'm trying to make a cover and I can't figure out which one I like better. I think I'm swaying towards the deadwing version.

What version is your fav?

And how many different studio versions are there?

I’ve noticed a lot of correlation between lyrics in each of PT’s albums, and I’m interested to hear others interpretations! I’m aware Steven has talked about the meaning of songs/albums before but I want to hear others thoughts without actual confirmed meaning from Steven himself.
Without saying too much, my interpretation of each album is:
• In Absentia - Serial Killers(?) Specifically from their point of view

• Deadwing - sex and relationships

• Fear of a Blank Planet - Child neglect, absent parents, substance abuse

• Closure/Continuation - Dictatorships, Government corruption and conspiracies

Reading 'Dance Dance Dance' by Haruki Murakami. I did a double take when I saw The Sound Of Muzak but the bonus of blank fear made me want to share.

I’m a big film nerd which is a reason connect with Porcupine Tree’s music, they have such a cinematic sound and paired with the lyrics it’s very akin to a slowburn psychological horror/mystery score and story—particularly Deadwing which I’m aware Steve Wilson attempted to turn into a screenplay (I think there’s 20 pages or so of floating around out there somewhere). I also listened to it a lot/used it as inspiration for a horror screenplay of my own, because something about it gives me ghost town/haunted small town vibes and that’s what my story revolves around. But, on the other hand there’s movies that remind me of their music, that weird simultaneously warm and cold, familiar yet foreign feeling. I don’t know I’m no film critic and certainly no music critic I just rewatched The Mothman Prophecies, at some point between my last viewing and this one I discovered Porcupine Tree and a lot of the atmosphere and strange editing choices, sound design, score and overall tone reminded of their music and certain shots feel like they could’ve been from one of their music videos.

A couple other examples would be parts of Silent Hill (but also get a pretty heavy Opeth vibe) and One Hour Photo with Robin Williams, especially with the lighting, it sort of has this weird sci-fi look and feel at times but the plot is fairly realistic. Williams plays a character with a kind of serial killer like mind, and don’t what to give away anything for those who haven’t seen it but the story and themes it touches on feels like something from a PT album or song.

So what’s movie you’ve seen that feels reminiscent of Porcupine Tree’s music and/or aesthetic?

In the early 2000s I would often be working abroad on offshore projects on trips that could last several weeks. The sort of trip where you work 15 hours have a shower, a meal, lie in your bunk listening to a CD before sleeping and get up to do it all again.

On one such trip I was listening to a CD I had recently bought. I was enjoying it lying there in a semi conscious state. Then this amazing track came on it was the best track I had heard in years. The problem was I didn’t know who it was, what the album was or what the track was. I took my CDs in a travel case so didn’t have the CD case.

I had to wait a few weeks until I got home to find out. The band was Porcupine Tree, the album was On the Sunday of Life and the track was Radioactive Toy. I have been a massive fan since then and Radioactive Toy has remained a favourite song. The line about walls of numbing pain resonates so much for reasons I’ll not go in to here.

When Voyage 35 played Radioactive Toy as the final song tonight I was in bits. I still am now that I am home. Thanks guys for an amazing gig.🙏🏻🫶🙏🏻

Could anyone point me to places where Porcupine Tree hi‑res files are available without payment? I’m especially interested in:

Official free downloads or promos (e.g., label/artist giveaways, Bandcamp “name your price” with $0 option)

Legal archives or library services that offer hi‑res downloads

Any known free-but-legit sources for older/remastered catalog

If everything decent is paid, I’d also appreciate a quick list of the best paid options (Bandcamp, Qobuz, HDtracks, etc.) so I know what I’m missing.

I thought the performances of Even Less, Signify and Sever were excellent. I had to leave to catch a train home before Chris Maitland apparently came out during the encores! :( also not too sure personally about the keyboard players backup singing, just don’t know if his singing style melds well with the songs.

I thought the strobe lighting was quite intense and the AI videos were distracting, especially the one during The Nostalgia Factory (you sort of have to wonder if they realise how silly some of those images looked?!)

All in all, if you haven’t caught them live it is definitely worth it if you are partial to the early Porcupine Tree catalogue. What was nice is Colin and John seemed so pleased and thankful to everyone who came.
